To be fair, Photoshop for iPad has a pretty cool and useful feature. When you tap its icon for a moment, it starts to jiggle, then you press the X icon that appears on the top right corner and the whole app is gone.

If you haven't, give Affinity Photo on computer a try. Been a Adobe CC subscriber for five years and decided enough was enough. I love Affinity Photo and Designer. (btw Affinity Photo AND Affinity Designer are on iPad, and the full versions too. Not watered down like Photoshop)

I bought photoshop once. After dealing with their customer service giving me a hard time deactivating a previous windows installation so I could re-activate on a fresh one(same computer. They told me I should have de-activated before formatting my hard drive. It got corrupted so I didn't have that chance in the first place), I told them on the phone that I'd pirate their software from now on.

The whole not being able to rotate your work is odd because they have that “feature” on older adobe apps for iPad. They said last year in Macworld article “We will release a smaller set of features on the iPad first so we can ship the 1.0 version to you quickly, and gradually add the rest over time.” So why should anyone pay $10 monthly for an app that’s not even close to being even 50% done? Also what is over time exactly 6 months, a year? I don’t understand how a company thats 30 years old & worth $9B can’t put out a full app when affinity has basically done it.

Good review, a little nicer than I would have been. Adobe should have never advertised “FULL” PS. Affinity Photo for iPad works well for photographers, and it’s a one time $20 purchase. I’ve just about had enough of Adobe.

I can’t tell you how disappointed I was to open this on my iPad. I’m a digital artist too and while I love Procreate more than life itself, I was really hoping I could use PS for some finishing details with tools that really work for me, such as selective color, as well as simple editing for website graphics. When I saw the only type of filter features they had were Gaussian Blur and Invert I exited the app real quick and didn’t even bother to try drawing in it. I just received the Procreate 5 beta and I’m already more pleased in only 2 minutes of playing with it. I can’t even believe you couldn’t rotate the canvas, like. It’s lacking so much more than I even saw 😩 Huge disappointment.

@@coffeerain1560 trust me, the subscription is worth it, a full year of clip studio paint pro cost like 2 and a half month of Photoshop, and clip studio is hands down the best application I used on iPad, I tried procreate at apple store but I really prefer clip studio on my own iPad, I didn't even consider getting procreate when I bought my iPad I just went straight to csp, it's that good, subscription is annoying but it's a small price in willing to pay

@@coffeerain1560 I can't explain it easily but the interface? its like your traditional desktop application layout which gives me a lot of flexibility for example I can have the colour wheel open instead of opening a tab everytime I can just have it where ever I want, also since it's basically the same with desktop working between pc and iPad is easy, the brushes have a lot of flexibility and options and I mean a lot, also the brush engine is one of the best I've ever used lineart in clip studio is very crisp and the pressure is very smooth

I purchased the iPad recently not because of Photoshop but more because I needed something to draw on the screen. I own a laptop where the screen went bad. The hardware got damaged so the screen is hard to identify colors. When it was better, I used Photoshop and Illustrator with a mouse. So using it that way was a lot more time consuming than on an iPad. I also got the iPad because of ProCreate, which was so much better better for drawing. I’m happy to have Photoshop downloaded anyway, I would use it for photo manipulation and retouching.

I use procreate for drawing and painting then proceed to use affinity photo to edit the colors, contrast, etc. I guess it's nice to have photoshop on the ipad but anyone with actual value in mind just won't gravitate towards it. People who use it are already well invested in the adobe suite.

Great overview. I've been interested in the artist's perspective on Photoshop for iPad, as I come at it from the photographer's perspective (and it was funny seeing my video when you were scrolling!) As a photographer, I do not recommend Photoshop for iPad at all. It's far too limited in it's current state. Even for the most basic edits and manipulations it's far too limited. Affinity Photo is by far the better option for serious or casual photo editing on the iPad.

Would it work for me? I can't do Real Art, but over the past few months I've been using Procreate with a photo layer to learn, by tracing over to start with and colouring in. I might spend about 16 hours creating a picture that way building up a layer for each part (including clearing the layer every time I make a mistake), then remove the photo and merge down when it's done. Doesn't look too automated when finished (and I do make decisions on my own). How would iPad Photoshop go with that sort of use case?

Just wait till Affinity's Winter sale and get Affinity Photo for £15 as a one time purchase for all photo manipulation, retouching, etc... and even Affinity Designer for vector art instead of Illustrator, and Procreate if you want to do actual art for iPad, all 3 are one time purchases and are at the cost of like only 2 months of Photoshop's subscription, that doesn't include how expensive illustrator would be either-.

I haven’t used them but any other device seems too slow to handle photoshop + 3D modeling apps(which are the only reasons to get a mobilestudio imo) since I dont need those apps, the only wacom product I would invest in is your typical screen monitor. Check out BradColbows video on it. I think theres a reason you dont see anyone on social media using it (its mainly for industry professionals working in a pipeline)

And it being a full windows tablet, it can be used for actual laptop purposes. The thing they're missing out on I feel is that it can't be used as a laptop out of the box. If you could just have a detachable keyboard that just acts like a normal laptop, it would be a considerable option for more people

I tried this app and its so glitchy. When i try to hide certain layers the whole canvas goes black and i have to close the whole app and open it again and never hide those layers again. Also the brushes are super laggy and not smooth. I even tried editing photos in it and that was also a nightmare

So, I am a Hobby Photographer and I love Photo Manipulation. I have always used Photoshop on my PC and as you might know, brushes for certain effects on Photo Manipulation can be crucial. The masking tools are good, and the blending options are mediocre. The problem with me was when it came to the part of my project where I had to work with water splashes. As some of you might know. The best was to do that can be to combine PNG’s with water brushes. So I’m sitting there on my iPad, with brushes saved in files looking for the “Import Brushes” button or something along the lines of that. I was SO disappointed because honestly, it wouldn’t really be hard to add that feature. Photoshop is fine if you want to do simple masking and blending and basic drawing and some effects with PNG’s, but once things get complicated with things, Photoshop for iPad Can’t help you. The PC and Mac version is still probably the thing you want to go with for now.

Can it actually do anything that isn't already possible with their fragmented mess of myriad apps? I'm on Android (Note 9 user) and alongside a few other apps I'm still using the original PS Touch that was discontinued years back. Seems they'd have been better simply giving that an updated look, it's obviously a far cry from the desktop version yet in spite of its age and how long it's been since the last update,, it does a fair amount (some features I've just not quite found in any other app) and perhaps more surprisingly, ir still functions more than adequately.

I think, the problems you're describing with Adobe Fresco are the same as what I find with "touch" overall. It's always hit and miss. I prefer physical controls because the workflow is faster and smoother. The downside of course is that there is no device as small and thin and high performance as the iPads, or Samsung tablets, that also have physical controls and a great stylus like the Wacom stylus. The Wacom Mobile Studio Pros are hardly mobile. If you're home and plugged into a wall outlet with the Mobile Studio Pro on a desk I suppose that is great but you might as well have a big Cintiq if you're not going to be mobile. My weapon of choice is the big Cintiq. It's not nearly the perfected stylus experience as the iPad Pro, but it's infinitely better in terms of productivity. I had a pair of first generation iPad Pro but I ended up giving one to my wife and the other to my son. Gearlust has me wanting another decent tablet now but I think I'm leaning towards the Galaxy Tab S7+ rather than another iPad Pro.
