I'm not an Adobe user anymore. Now that I have an Ipad one of the first things I got were Serif Affinity Photo and Designer. Right away 2 things came to mind, the obvious being the price. Currently they're on sale, I paid just over €11 for each...once. Three months photoshop on the iPad would cost me more and I keep on paying. Not good. Second perhaps more important question is why can a small company create something that a huge company can't? Whichever way I'm looking at this, it brings me back to the same word.... incompetence. I rather support smaller, competent, innovative companies that give me a good product for a fair price, than a big company that grabs my money and doesn't deliver.

Yes, a million times over! I have both the desktop and iPad versions of Affinity Photo, and I'm so happy with them. The desktop version is a bit heavy, but for my drawing purposes, I'd much rather use the iPad version anyways and save the desktop version for creating textures and web images. Knowing that I'm not wasting $25 a month for a program I only open on my PC maybe twice a week is a very comforting thing. The iPad version is robust enough that I can do anything I'd do on desktop with it anyways.

I guess I am just not willing to look that hard to give adobe the benefit of the doubt anymore. I say what they could have done was actually start developing photoshop for the iPad years ago instead of the half baked apps they kept coming out with. It's also annoying when Affinity Photo is already doing this so much better. Photoshop on iPad doesn't feel like a real program, it feels more like you said, an add on to creative cloud.

It's really hard, because Adobe SHOULD have remake ALL of their apps, in terms os coding, interface and etc, remake it from zero. at least in 10 to 10 years. To make sure all the softwares are excefull heavy on the memory, to make sure that is not so slow, and mainly to make sure that all softwares works beetween then. Hi Brad! I agree in a way. I’ve been using photoshop for doodling last week and it works. But there are two things that makes photoshop a failure. First, the photoshop and fresco combo is more expensive than the subscription for clip studio paint, that is really a powerful app, a desktop one. And the other, that is related to the previous, is that you can’t rely, for professional work, in this app. The problem is not that it’s limited. The problem is that is no reliable. If you spent a lot of time,, an work, in one illustration and then crash, or fail to export, that is a BIG problem. Every pro illustrator used to work with limited functions. We all can. What we can’t is spent time for nothing. So, when I need to delivery an illustration, I go for procreate or clip studio. Photoshop didn’t give me the guarantees I need. So, expensive and unreliable are a deadly combo. For doodles, it’s ok and fun.

I was one of the people who opened it excited to maybe make a review out of it but it was so shockingly bad that I thought there’s nothing reasonable I could say about it. Now I’m thinking... who is this for really? I mean if I have client work that requires something like photoshop then I probably will need more from the hardware too than what the current ipads can provide. I really have to imagine a corner case scenario where this would be a better option thank something else that’s designed for the touch screen and makes sense for a normal freelance project budget. Congratulations for getting through this review without swearing though! :)

@nuloom4 жыл бұрын
i don’t want adobe to make their ui’s consistent on the desktop. On the ipad - sure. But it feels like each layer system is specifically tailored towards the workflows that an app provides. After Effects has a very specific layer system, but once you get used to it, it feels extremely robust. Adobe Illustrator has a quirky one, but once you learn to use it, it’s a big speed boost - the separation between layer highlighting and selecting lets you reorder layers without losing your selection, and it follows a simple principle: if something you do affects the objects selected, you have to select it, e.g grouping, pathfinders, etc. If something you do affects the layer, highlight it, e.g. isolating or splitting into individual layers. Photoshop’s layers and selection is the most straight-forward, but it’s still powerful for what you want. No need to split highlighting and selection. Those things make the apps so good. On the ipad i feel like the functionality can be lost that way too

I think people are pissed cause they were expecting too much or the same as the desktop version. Yes, Adobe should've cleared it from the get go but what's done is done now. We can just keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best cause it's Adobe ya'all, we all know what they can do. Even if ps is shitty right now, maybe in couple of months they will make it as same or even better than the desktop version.
@RinzyOtt4 жыл бұрын
They probably can't really do that though. Desktop Photoshop is a beast and likes to eat resources like it was starving. This is a problem for porting the whole thing over to iPad, because in all likelihood, Apple has a requirement that apps be at least functional on all currently offered versions of the iPad. A fully-featured iOS PS app would probably only be able to run on an iPad pro, which breaks Apple's philosophy of creating a seamless experience when transitioning between devices.
@noetrix33124 жыл бұрын

Desktop Photoshop is so big and massive with all its features that its even stupid to call some mobile version "Photoshop" since they can't get even close to all the things you can do with the full version on desktop. Be cause that Photoshop name have baked into peoples mind in way or another as a industry standard for "Photoshopping" pictures.
@Thewackyartist14 жыл бұрын
As an artist myself I can tell you that even though photoshop is the industry standard, they have been slacking with the development of new and better features. I wanna say photoshop 'universal interface' should be followed DESKTOP interface. The same program but different UI is way worse than different programs and UI. Also Photoshop is a DESKTOP-based professional program, and everyone starts to learn from photoshop on desktop. furthermore photoshop on iPad is not full-featured photoshop, so eventually you finish work on a desktop. These are why photoshop on iPad UI makes a bad user experience. This is not a universal interface, it is another fragmented interface .
@TheSCPStudio4 жыл бұрын
Joonwoo Choi just practice for a day or two and you get used to it... it’s not a bad user experience if you’re simply unwilling to adapt.
@jeffreypostma68324 жыл бұрын
The thing is, that other app developers did manage to put a full desktop app on the iPad from version 1. Affinity did so with Designer and Photo, with a touch unique UI and almost all the desktop features. Clip Studio Paint is just the full desktop app on the iPad. And it works. If these apps had not existed, the response might have been better, and/or the expectation would have been lower. I know PS is a huge program and porting it one on one would not be a great idea, but then they should have not presented it in this way. You just expect the giant Adobe to deliver the best, and they obviously did not. Will they get it right? Well they do seem to have a long term commitment this time around, which they did not show in the past, so we will see.

Adobe have released a photoshop on the iPad because they felt they needed something to put up against the Affinity apps to try and stop current Adobe users from realising that the Affinity apps (on the iPad ... I guess if you are a professional who can offset the Adobe subscription against your tax bill as a business expense then you are going to stick with Photoshop on Mac/PC. But for anyone else, or any professional who can see through the Adobe hype, then the Affinity apps and Procreate on the iPad are the best way to go.

Wix or squarespace alone can cost you more than that. For me, a 10 usd subscription give me web hosting, lightroom (hold my photo library) and a bunch of bonus like photoshop and spark stuff that I occasionally use. But yes, if you are more of a artist/illustrator, especially if you are mainly an iPad user, you can say goodbye to adobe. I also bought affinity designer, affinity photo and procreate, all of those are excellent and way more cost effective than adobe software.

Honestly wish they had just gone and ported over Photoshop 1:1, even if that means something that's a bit slow and completely unoptimized for the iPad. Clip Studio Paint basically did that to the point where they didn't even try to optimize it for touch. And you know what? Who really cares when everyone using it is going to have the Apple Pencil anyway, even if that means Steve Jobs is rolling in his grave with people using a stylus as the primary input method of an app. If I was Adobe I would scrap the effort to piecemeal recreate Photoshop on a new platform and instead see if they can bring some of the touch interface elements they've developed over to the desktop app as an option for people using smaller Wacom tablets and such. Then port *that* to the iPad. The whole thing. It doesn't matter if it takes 5 seconds to load up and only works on the newest iPads due to lack of ram, at least it would actually be the Photoshop people are paying for.

Does this mean that in time Adobe desk UI could Mimic the iPad version 🤔

I called it straight up garbage in the video...I still think it horrible is compared to affinity photo and design...if you can use a full version of photoshop on a Wacom tablet...it shouldn’t be a problem on the iPad...adobe is full crappy of unfinished buggy software like rush and premiere...

Unfortunately, Apple do not allow apps called "beta" on their App Store, so there's not much Adobe could do in terms of messaging at launch.

My biggest hate about Photoshop on the iPad is the lack of pen tool! 😫 Ai selection is okay but there is so much that we just need the pen tool for! 😫

Big companies have their own hindrances. I’m pretty sure they’re not lazy. It’s like David and Goliath.

I was wondering when you were going to say something like "Photoshop has even gone the way of Kleenex or even Google - becoming synonymous with something specific, or even becoming it's own verb - like 'that picture is totally photoshopped' "

This is so philosophical. 👏 Also, I thought everyone understood that art apps had their own focused specialties like what was mentioned with ProCreate being a drawing app which is why its text and animation features were in hidden menus... I get frustrated with some UI & UX, too, but I either don't bother with it anymore, suggest changes if possible (via writing reviews) or learn/adapt. Not dissing but some online "reviews"/complainants do sound Karen-like lol

they shouldn't have called it Photoshop because that carries so much with it.. Photoboutique, Photocornerstore or Photokiosk or something might have worked instead

Adobe makes the majority of their revenue these days from corporate products through their acquisitions. Marketo, Neolane, Magento, which makes up Adobe Marketing Cloud. Adobe CC is a small part of the current company strategy.

On the photography side, Adobe launched this app with no support for RAW files, which is the industry standard file type that professional photographers use to get the most out of post-production. That made it immediately unusable for my image processing and retouching workflow as a photographer. It STILL lacks most of the features I need for photography post-production, six months later. As an artist and illustrator, there are so many weaknesses with Photoshop for iPad that I can't even begin to touch on them all. The apps we use need to improve our workflow, not hinder it! Until Adobe makes major improvements to Photoshop, I won't even consider it. That's especially true when programs like Procreate, Infinite Painter, Concepts and the Affinity apps on the iPad are so much more robust AND affordable! I mean, even on the computer I now find myself using Clip Studio Paint, Rebelle 3 and the Affinity apps more than Photoshop for art and illustration, which is saying a lot.

yeah exactly photoshop was never really intended for illustration even...it just happened like that because it had a basic brush system to touch up photos and digital artists gravitated towards it decades ago because it easily accessible via pirating. Some digital artists got very clever and just used what tools were available to them and it just took off as an illustration app.
