Yeah I discovered the depth map about a month ago and it's been a game-changer. I do portraits, and it's great to be able to manipulate the subject and background separately. Not that I couldn't before, it's just the depth map makes it SO much easier!

You are an absolute pleasure to watch, Unmesh. You make learning PS so easy to understand. I watch all your videos, even if it has nothing to do with anything I need to learn with what I do for work. I believe I said this once before, but you are like the Reading Rainbow on Photoshop which is a huge compliment because people my age (mid-40's) loved that show when we were kids. LeVar Burton made us want to read, and that is exactly what you do; you make us want to create.

nice tut! Super cool granular mask selection. FWIW, selecting all layers and then turning it into a smart object before applying camera raw would be less destructive. That merge to top sequence essentially made everything below it uneditable after the fact. You would have to delete and merge to top every time. Merge to top is a great temporary move for selections or effects, but only to then delete it. Otherwise everything below it wont be playable anymore. It creates commitment to the edit with no going back, or rather at a loss of workflow. Smart object workflow definitely feels like inception, a photo within a photo, but it can at least retain every step in the workflow. Thanks for all your videos by the way. It has taught me plenty over the years, huge respect.

I work with rendering software and I always render depth map for post production but I usually just apply lens blur and also screen it on top to fade away further area as a fast Post Production work. Nice to see how much I can do to make it even better. Very good suggestions with the grain of course. I should make remove it for light areas. Thank you really

For the grain, one nice technique is also to try using the grain effects in the Camera Raw filter on the neutral gray overlay layer as it can sometimes look nicer than the noise filter, but it just depends on what you're going for :)

Another good video, thanks! About the color lookup preview thing, I'm sure Unmesh, and most of us already know that, but I will write it down anyway, maybe it helps those who aren't using PS that often. So... let's say you want to browse between different color lookups because you don't know which is the name of that specific one you had in mind using, or you just want to know which looks the best for that specific photo, and since there's no preview when you hover your cursor over different lookup styles, and it's "annoying" to just keep clicking to each and all of them, I just select the first one from the top of the list, click it, then I'll use my down/up arrow keys on my keyboard to cycle between them, that way it's possible to get a real time preview. Not a world changing trick, but I like using it like that. Sorry for the long comment, cheers all!

Unmesh: Depth Masks are interesting, but like other AI-generated things, they are low resolution. Are there any possible tricks to generate "Hi-Res Depth Masks," ala Hi-Res Gen Fill? 🙂
@PiXimperfect5 ай бұрын
Yes, it sucks that we don’t get high-res. But, since this is being processed on device (not cloud), if Adobe wants, maybe they can have a high res mode in the future. I’ll make a request. Wish there was a trick to make it high res. I mean, we can “technically” make it, but the edges wouldn’t match. However, if you really want to take the time, you can create these depth maps manually.
