Thank goodness, this is a feature I've been waiting for. Great guide, and an awesome explanation of the options available!

When I am "painting" on lots of new blank layers, this feature does help me visualize the which layer a detail is on. 🤗🤗

Looks like something I could use with the compositing I do a lot of. The trick is remembering the dang thing is there! For me, anyway... Cool demo, Colin!

👍🏻 I've always been looking for a way to approach a specific layer of many in a targeted and "short way". This feature seems to offer exactly THAT. Good thing! Well explained! thx.

I will absolutely use it! I never have as many layers as you do but I always have more than 4! Thank you again for the early information.

I'm looking forward to this feature. I do some compositing and sometimes finding layers is a challenge. I don't use the Beta - it becomes the default app for psd files in Windows and I can't change that. I'll definitely use this feature when it makes it into the public version. Also, just after 5 minutes in, you reference Illustrator. Was that intentional? I don't use Illustrator, only Photoshop. Thanks for another really useful video.

Thanks for the info! Your icon for Cntrl Cmd has the apple and microsoft logos paired with the wrong key name. You say it correctly tho.

I noticed this change last week by accident. Used it and was gladly surprised.

The comments really show how divergent people are in the way they use PS. Some think this is 'useless', and likely don't do a lot of layer/compositing work. However, for the majority I would think these changes are wonderful and will make it much easier to identify and work with objects/layers. Thanks for this Colin!

Sometimes people forget the different professions that use Photoshop, over the years I've worked in Design (print and Interactive), Photography, video, visual Effects, advertising, comic book, and probably others, and all these industries use Photoshop in different ways.

In the past, I've used Illustrator significantly more than Photoshop and i understand the value of the new layer select options. I'm looking forward to their introduction into the production version of Photoshop.

Many thanks, great explanation. I'm an "old fashion" photographer. I don't do any compositing, and I don't see a use for this feature in my work.

I can see myself turning this off for a lot of projects, but for others it will be really handy. Thanks!!!

Colin, you have a spoken typo @6:00 😁 Another thing this feature does is show the limits of layers that extend outside the document. There have been updates two days running, and V25.8.0 m.2581 appears to be working perfectly. The square bracket key function was an 'Oh wow!' moment for me, so thanks for that.

Not. It's not good sign if such a minor feature can actually cause Photoshop to crash. This may mean they've been fiddling with the way Photoshop handles layer stacking. I'm hoping they will not release this feature in the main version, until they have removed or anything that causes instability
@Shade_K9 ай бұрын
@@yinoveryang4246 that's what beta versions are for 🙄🙄

lol, fortunately my overlay was correct, or the Windows users would be hunting for the Cmd key, which is even more rare than the "any key"

So, is this a tool that’s primarily useful for graphic design and compositing?
@photoshopcafe9 ай бұрын
Use it for whatever you like :)
@ZoranImsiragic9 ай бұрын
Some of this can be useful. But, whit auto select off, when I press Cmd/Ctrl and hover over the layer, I get smart guide box around it and I can choose layer I want. Somehow, the Photoshop team is making things that are already there, like with an Adjustment brush.
@blackislepeastoo9 ай бұрын
Photoshop always has 2 or more ways of doing the same thing. I guess which one anyone chooses is down to how their mind approaches a problem and how 'muscle memory' is ingrained, personally I use layers almost beyond a reasonable level, so this has potential, but until it hits mainstream I'll stay away as I don't use Beta.

I personally have little interest in any of these features…mostly because I really dislike seeing the bounding box as I find it too distracting. I also prefer to use the auto select so even though I have projects with many layers and groups I would likely never use any of this. I can see where this would be helpful for those who don’t use the auto select though.

LAGGY FEATURE! I HATE THIS FEATURE! And you can't turn it off in PS24 - it gets so laggy! Teerible experience - and you CAN'T TURN IT OFF! It keeps on activating once you tab in tab out of PS24. FFS Adobe! :(
