Thank you mr. GrammarMan! Your videos not only inspired me but also helped me a lot with an AI project, where I have to build grammar in a software engine for the AI to understand and so far it works flawlessly, your knowledge and way of teaching is precious, thank you!

The native view on grammar is challenging. Not so difficult when we already know the terms n function in a sentence. Thx. This makes perfect sense. I know the grammar like nothing . I used to be called ' a walking grammar'

If I study a topic , I connect it in such a way that I do not need to repeat the same thing over n over again.... it is called association with the previous knowledge . The different forms of usage make sense. Now, it is clear.

In the sentence "Don't waste time talking about it", in my opinion the phrase 'talking about it' has the hidden preposition 'by', and the whole prepositional phrase modifies the verb 'waste', rather than the noun 'time, because it answers the question 'Waste time how--by doing what?'

Hi, sorry for unrelated kind of question, but when we have to-inf clause starting the sentence(To laugh at others is easy) and than we use prep. It and move the inf-cl to the end(It is easy to laugh at others) what is the clause's function? Easy is subject compl, but what is with the inf-cl? Subject is it.I've been trying to find answer but none of the explanations really explain what happens to it when it is moved.Thank you very much!
@phumkiatwananuraksakul78156 жыл бұрын
Hello.Where do you live?I just found this vdo and can answer your long-time question.To laugh at others is easy.To laugh at others here is infinitive phase acting or functioning as subject because infinitive with to can act as noun;it can be a subject.On the other hand,to laugh at others as in it is easy to laugh at others acting otr functioning as adjective complement because of following of eash being adjective as predicate adjective modifying or descriping the sbuject of it.I hope you find my answer clearly.I am Thais .Have you ever been to Thailand before?

06:20 Then why can't we just say "The house ruined by fire collapsed"? What is the reason of pulling that participial phrase to the front? Also I don't quite get it how is "talking about it" modifying "time". Could you explain this thing a bit more, please? 07:01 Don't let the "-ing" ending fool you. They have different origin in participles than in gerunds.

An infinitive does not need to have "to" in front of it. She had us read the book. "read" is in the infinitive form. "To" is just a marker. It is not part of the infinitive. That's why it's perfectly cromulent to "split" an infinitive. Some sentences require the marker; some don't.

Great stuff -- thanks. "Don't waste time talking about it." Does "talking about it" really modify "time"? That doesn't seem right. There is an implicit preposition "by" here, and "by talking about it" modifies "waste," describing HOW the waste occurs, doesn't it?

Don't waste time talking about it.Can restate sentence as don't waste time by talking about it.I therefore believe " talking about it" is a gerund phrase modifying the verb don't waste. 😢 is a gerund phrase acting as an adverbial
