T Dixon/ Absolutely correct, society had such a negative status on needing help that people fight mentally alone. The stigma causes people's jobs, housing, their children. Especially in minority communities. There were many stars, Donny Hathaway, another great singer we lost in the same way. Your comment brings attention to the issue. Thank you.

She was actually vocal about being in therapy for years. She had a therapist for almost a decade and went to rehab multiple times before her passing. Currently, reading her biography Strength of A Woman. It really gives insight on the literal fight of mental illness. People seek help but they (we) simply grow tired of the ongoing battle.

What I learned from Phyills in this song, is to learn or know how to love yourself until you are 100% sure you know what you need and how to take care of you, before you allow anyone in your life as a mate/partner and then you will avoid living in confusion with someone else and their b.s.!

When you are going through a depression never keep in silence always seek God for help which that is only person that can do it " BUT " can't say everyone don't have same believes as I do. But anyways speak out to people who you trust and know that they will not going to judge you like family members, close friends, or therapist . And lastly never judge people young or old based on what you heard or think you know until you started go through what Phyllis Hyman or other people currently going through or went through its best to keep to yourself .

My sister being celibate is not a curse. More women should save. More women should think and be that way as well. Growing up in the church taught young people to save God's temple until marriage. God will send that special person to you. Continue to wait on Him. I've been blessed to have a very special wife, and marriage is wonderful. I'm so sorry, she was one of my favorite artists of all time remember many Friday nights and Saturday nights going to clubs in state and out of state. Playing her music on the road ..sistah,sister, I ask you a question. Several years ago I was told that a lot of her problems begin because of trauma in her childhood. Is that true.. sometimes we as men fall our daughters by not validating, whooing, teaching, loving and put not putting that imprint that gives them structure and soundness within them to avoid these terrible consequences .RIP Soul Queen

Such an underrated artist gone way too soon. I too suffer from major depression, I can definitely relate. Depression is a disease that no one wants discuss. I often have thought about suicide myself. Thinking of my child is what has kept me from doing the unthinkable. My child needs me. I love me as well. Thank you momma for teaching me how to pray. Missing you like yesterday. #babygirl❤️

This angel was going through more than anyone can withstand. Her voice was and will always remain. The words speak for anyone going through situations unspeakable. This song defines hurt. The "Leave me alone " part was genuine and heartfelt. Hurt is a silent killer. I feel as many do.

I listened to her music about 2 months ago one night at work, she was super talented, beautiful voice and look just like Vesta Williams! As a 80s baby and 90s kid, I have to say the best powerhouse singers were mostly from the 60s, 70s, and 80s! 90s had a few but 90s is when a lot of the "cute singers" came in. May she RIP! Real Black American talent! ❤

I will always remember her in School Daze...she came on there with a low cut dress and she looked so Beautiful & Classy, these artist now that are out wearing next to nothing do not have any class could never compare to this Empress...she was sultry, she was It, I just wished she could have held on to life more and not compare herself to other singers who were out at the same time....

One of her most heartbreaking songs. She could stand up against any of the top female vocalists today or earlier. The sad issue is that all her music was about heart break. I first saw her sing with Norman Connors at Nixons Farm in Maryland. The last time was a Hampton University's Home Coming. Years late, she committed suicide. The crazy thing is that no one sounds right, singing her songs.

This is a very powerful strong song about waking up n learning to be your own person n to love you. Trust is a hard thing to come by and you get tired of the games, the disappointment n the heartache until one day you say no more. If someone don't want to be bothered then just leave them alone don't continue to play w/someone's feelings n keep them living in confusion. Life is too short. Love me or Leave me alone. The Great Phyllis Hyman knew what she was singing. This song is the Truth!🙏😎✌

She still speaks to my soul. With the recent passing of Bobby Caldwell, who lived a long life… I can’t help but feel life is unfair for letting this amazing woman suffer and die like she did. Depression and Bi-Polar issues were taboo in her day and she just needed the right combination of help and meds. Still Heartbroken all these years later. Her jazzy successes paved the way for other artists (Anita Baker) and that is part of her undying legacy. R.I.P. Queen. We miss you and will always hear the stories of your heart and soul.
