T Dixon/ Absolutely correct, society had such a negative status on needing help that people fight mentally alone. The stigma causes people's jobs, housing, their children. Especially in minority communities. There were many stars, Donny Hathaway, another great singer we lost in the same way. Your comment brings attention to the issue. Thank you.

She was actually vocal about being in therapy for years. She had a therapist for almost a decade and went to rehab multiple times before her passing. Currently, reading her biography Strength of A Woman. It really gives insight on the literal fight of mental illness. People seek help but they (we) simply grow tired of the ongoing battle.

What I learned from Phyills in this song, is to learn or know how to love yourself until you are 100% sure you know what you need and how to take care of you, before you allow anyone in your life as a mate/partner and then you will avoid living in confusion with someone else and their b.s.!

When you are going through a depression never keep in silence always seek God for help which that is only person that can do it " BUT " can't say everyone don't have same believes as I do. But anyways speak out to people who you trust and know that they will not going to judge you like family members, close friends, or therapist . And lastly never judge people young or old based on what you heard or think you know until you started go through what Phyllis Hyman or other people currently going through or went through its best to keep to yourself .

God will send that special person to you. Continue to wait on Him. I've been blessed to have a very special wife, and marriage is wonderful. One of her most heartbreaking songs. She could stand up against any of the top female vocalists today or earlier. The sad issue is that all her music was about heart break. This is a very powerful strong song about waking up n learning to be your own person n to love you. Trust is a hard thing to come by and you get tired of the games, the disappointment n the heartache until one day you say no more. If someone don't want to be bothered then just leave them alone don't continue to play w/someone's feelings n keep them living in confusion. Life is too short. Love me or Leave me alone. The Great Phyllis Hyman knew what she was singing. This song is the Truth!🙏😎✌

Phyllis could sing a phone book. There is not one singer today that is comparable.

I miss Mz Phyllis, she was Awesome. Checked her out at The Caravan 🎉of Dreams 🎊 in downtown Fort Worth, Tx back in tha day. One of my bestie's was at the show and I didn't know she knew her thru her Father and got me and my current at the time back stage for a autograph and some conversations. May the Lord please rest her Soul. 👏🏼😎🙏🏼

She still speaks to my soul. With the recent passing of Bobby Caldwell, who lived a long life… I can’t help but feel life is unfair for letting this amazing woman suffer and die like she did. Depression and Bi-Polar issues were taboo in her day and she just needed the right combination of help and meds. Still Heartbroken all these years later. Her jazzy successes paved the way for other artists (Anita Baker) and that is part of her undying legacy. R.I.P. Queen. We miss you and will always hear the stories of your heart and soul.
