This woman like so many Black women was so underrated. Her beauty, sex appeal, voice, style and class were not acknowledged nearly as much as it should have been.
@tomjoad45515 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I believe that was done on purpose because white women singers know they can't hold a candle to black women.
@BamaFan-vc4gn5 жыл бұрын
@@tomjoad4551 what a very ignorant thing to say. It has nothing to do with white women when you consider that the vast majority of famous black female singers were produced by black music icons such as Berry Gordy and Quincy Jones. There are mitigating factors I'm sure into why Stephanie did not get the type of attention one would think she deserved but trust me when I tell you there are millions of women who sing this well if not better he never even get any attention at all because it's all about striking when the iron is hot. Success is as much about timing is it is anything and the greatest example of that is Diana Ross who was never really the great singer that she was made out to be but rather in the right place at the right time. Sometimes it's the Stars themselves that hold them back for any number of reasons. Think back to all of the wonderful black singers who were huge Stars from Etta James at Aretha Franklin to Dionne Warwick and from Lena Horne to Billie Holiday. A lot of it has to do with the material they are given. Dionne Warwick is a great representative of that because she was chosen by Burt Bacharach who is a white Rider you could have chosen anyone to sing his vast portfolio of incredible lyrics but he made Warwick into a star. Becoming a success in any area of show business is simply not an easy thing and it takes a little and a whole lot of luck and anyone who's ever made it will tell you that.

Here is a singer. She doesn't have to be half naked to sell a song. Her voice does everything to make you love her!!!!!! Take a lesson you young girls coming up now.
@TheNotverysocial8 жыл бұрын
"Half naked" I wish no one would harp on that. It's annoying. Who did that anyway? I rarely buy or search music videos, only buy the albums and listen to the radio. And Ross totally sells it. Original or no, s/he is my favorite. Also, I find Ross extremely unpleasant to look at now, but no less pleasant to listen to. I could go to sleep and wake up listening to that angelic rhapsody. PS, the film version of the story isn't the best one, but it convinced me of passionate feelings like no other version of it I've encountered. I like the live versions for encompassing more and the most from the story they are all based on, yet the film captures raw emotion like none of the live ones have. I like teenage Mills much more than fifty something Mills. Of course, I will never have the luxury of seeing her live performance as a teen, as I wasn't there, and there's no video of it. But there's plenty of audio recording of them to chillax to. Too bad the television version was so mechanical.

The movie industry, rather Berry Gordy did an injustice to this FABULOUSLY talented woman when he gave the role of Dorothy to Diana Ross as opposed to Stephanie, who originated the role on Broadway! Moviegoers and those who didn't get a chance to see her in the B'way version of The Wiz were cheated (in my humble opinion) out of an epic opportunity to see her perform the role on the Big Screen! Moreover, in not getting to hear her SING! When I saw it on Broadway, Stephanie bounced out onto that stage like she owned it and the audience let her know -- SHE DID!!!
