Phyllis gives a live a cappella performance of "I Refuse To Be Lonely" off of her album of the same name on a Texas morning news show.
Plus, an interview along with fellow musician Billy Preston as they discuss their starring roles in a play called Blues Bar. RIP to both Phyllis Hyman and Billy Preston.

I saw/spoke to Phyllis Hyman the night before she committed suicide. We talked about how she remembered me from years ago. I gave her a big hug and told her I love you. I said to my friends that night something is seriously wrong with her. I felt in my heart that would be the last time I would see her. And I was right! God Bless you Phyllis. Thank you for all the beautiful music and wonderful encouragement to be who I want to be... RIP

Rest in heaven Phyllis Hyman... I know exactly what you told me and would never say you committed suicide! You and your Protege Whitney Houston were murdered the same way Hotel parties still lit! I remember 6-30-95 the day Phyllis Hyman passed. I was in Harlem & she was suppose to perform @ the Appollo theatre. I was 3 blocks away hanging with some friends infront of a friends brownstone talking. A radio was playing on 97.8 kiss fm. When adruptly an announcement came on. We're sorry to interupt this program. R&B soul singer Phyllis Hyman has died of an apparent suicide. In her down town New York apartment. Within a second the conversation went silenced. There was a moment of silence on the radio & between me & my group of friends. Young & old we all was touched by her angelic voice. That night I went home & listen to every recording I had of her. Watch every vhs recording of her. Ran out to purchase her last studio album. To this day Phyllis Hyman remains a legend in her on right & in my ❤. Her songs told the story my life, her own & so many others. Ever miss, never forgotten.

She didn't kill herself I don't believe that. I believe her and Clive couldn't make it work because she had a mind of her own he couldn't control her, so he bumped her off for Whitney at that time Whitney was brand new 19 Phyllis just a tad older but still creme of the crop. That industry especially concerning blacks they want TOTAL control much like slavery. Don't believe the report first thing it's not true. I think she was having difficulty in her career choices but they always say these people are depressed, bipolar, schizophrenic it's a lie. I can't imagine the impossible monsters they all face, that's why most don't make it to the top they all have to compromise and dive into deep darkness.
@serious7179

I have a question... Does anybody believe that anybody kills themselves anymore? Every time I come across someone famous who supposedly died by the hands of suicide, I get all kinds of comments saying that the person didn't kill themselves.
@christinamitchell6796
@christinamitchell6796 4 жыл бұрын
@@serious7179 it's a legit question but for me no I usually don't believe because Hollywood is all smoke screen and mirrors our government too. Do some research and you'll see, as I have and have actually known someone in those societys. They have to compromise themselves in ways that to the "normal" human would seem unthinkable. They like to do everything by the numbers. Just as surely as Christ gave his life for others to be saved (sacrificed). The satanic Hollywood requires by way of Satan sacrifices for the wealth and prosperity of the celebrity. This is for a short period of time it's a contract and eventually Satan comes to collect. Check out James brown who literally did a commercial seeking Satan to renew his contract and get "more time". Bob Dylan interview was dead serious when he said he sold his soul to write and play like he did and get rich and said he's "holding up his end of the bargain with the El Capitan in this world and OTHER world's" meaning the unseen spiritual world. Is it possible people have killed themselves? Yes, however based upon the knowledge I've received in that world it's unlikely for most. Don't take my word for it seek it out yourself there's information everywhere.

Why is everything SELF worth problem cure-all for every one? Not mad I just want us to think before we rereregirgitate this psyche lingo. Self esteem doesn't work or fix anything that's why the powers that be feed us that nonsense all day. Are us BLK wmn in disarray cause self esteem? Or is it set up that way before birth. Could it be our group is against i and holds is in a low esteem. Could it be we don't have race a culture or community to work it. At which point is a human communal being supposed to break?????? And self esteem be blamed. We are literally unlike anyone else on the planet told to function spiritual ly with no arms or legs The kind of help we need can't be found in self esteem, nor psychiatry or help. There is nothing innate about women that makes them predominantly inherantly damaged. Then problem is the outside it's more necessary that the inside.

God, she is amazing. I worked in the industry and met her at a huge convention-size party for the company BMG not long before she died - in the midst of what seemed like a thousand people, she was sitting alone at a cocktail table, looking so regal and beautiful, yet so sad. I went over to her and I told her how much I admired her and loved her music, and how gorgeous she looked that night. I'm so glad I got that chance because they don't make real ladies with real talent like that anymore. Heaven got an angel with an angelic voice when she passed.

Weather it was drugs, depression or both mixed with a bit of something else to me at least (At Least) it seems by this time around she was very tired and not as happy, spunky, and more of a glow just a few years earlier like 91' and especially maybe 86' still beautiful woman and she still remains one of the most underrated vocalist of all time 💯💯💯💯💯

Angel Johnon ...she signed to a record label. Clive Davis. She had zero control over her name, life, music career. She didn't get along with Clive Davis, her handler at all. Like Gordy did to Florence Ballard he sabotaged her career. She did interviews during the early 90s openly criticizing the movers and shakers control over singers. Like Late Supreme Florence Ballard she found herself against a powerful machine that devours the artists it uses. She was on Ebony/Jet showcase, Arsenio Hall and various shows openly sharing her depression and distaste for the music industry machine.

An outstanding representation of her amazing, multi-faceted gift. My late Mother introduced me to Ms. Hyman's music, and apparently I was present at a wedding she sang at when I was 2 or 3. I truly wish I could go back in time. Also, she is representative of a bygone era when there was substance and depth and soul in R&B music. Oh, to re-live those days again.

I felt so sorry for Phyllis, this poor woman was just tired but she was talented, smart and beautiful. I wish could had met her mental illness is something Phyllis at that time was struggling with financial woes, weight gain, health issues and drug/alcohol addiction this was her last interview months before she ended her life she thought she wasn't loved but if she only knew we all loved her so much important only she needed was God's love. R.I.P. PHYLLIS HYMAN 1949-1995 Last week Phyllis turned 72 years old no one couldn't sing this good as this woman Jazmine Sullivan looks like her and has that voice similar like Phyllis wish you could had gotten the help you needed Phyllis.
