Years ago, I saw Phyllis entering a restaurant in LA and was stunned at just how beautiful she was. So, I walked up to her and said, "you are so beautiful" and she replied, "thank you, I am your reflection".

My preference is BLACK women. And always will be. Im in the minority of people that truly belives that anti segregation is something that has held us back as a community . This is one of, if not thee best interviews I have seen on this channel!! Thank you for sharing this insightful, articulate, intelligent Black woman's perspective on Blackness and how it's manifested in professional acting spaces, how highly melanated women are regarded in those spaces and what surviving and thriving in those spaces looks like. I sincerely respect and appreciate Sister Stickney and her body of work and how she has thoughtfully curated her inner character to reflect the hard-won values of a Great Black Woman. Ashé sistar!

It's so interesting hearing her talk about the first time someone told her she was beautiful she was 24 cause it was the same with me. I was 24 years old before I was told my dark skin was attractive. Then the fact that like her I am very Afro Centric takes alot to meet someone who is willing to want it.

Same. My father will be 70 in August. He told me when he was younger...the people who usually mentioned his skin color in a disparaging manner the most were darkskin and lightskin Black Women. Hell, I'm in my 30s...I've experienced that in my upbringing...some of the most hurtful things I've heard about my skin tone were from Black Women. The fact the sista mentioned kola boff of all people is the part that sticks. Reason I say that is because not only was she a former girlfriend to Osama bin laden (her actual words), but she's always had the most hateful things to say about Black Men. She's never mentioned anything close to respectful towards us. A lot of these sistas are guilty of what they put solely on Black Men.

I remember there was a Basketball player named Larry Johnson in the 90s (Grand ma ma) and he was pretty big in the 90s. He ended up getting married to a black woman who worked at Wendys at the time & he basically lost all his endorsements after he married her. I am with a black woman now. & The funny thing is the world treats you different when you're with a black woman. Alot of dudes do do it for status. Even different opportunities and positions will open for you. Personally I don't care about that stuff. I only date black women. The world hates seeing black men love on black women. When I was in school I was the only black person in the class, and they were constantly asking don't I wanna switch sides and date white women. Or they said negative stuff about black women. I know I love my women 🤷🏽‍♂️.

Larry Johnson lost his endorsement due to (a) "racist" statements (they were actually bigoted and prejudicial statements about Blacks) that got out the public, (b) his production numbers took a nose dive due to injuries, (c) the "Grandmama" act quickly grew old, and (d) is infamous father of multiple children. It had nothing to do with marrying a Black woman.

It's important to acknowledge that a significant percentage, around 80-90%, of the black women participating in this comment section have experienced relationships with men who were not the best partners or were involved with "bad boys" in their past. We've all been conditioned to view beauty differently. So, why is it that most blk women can still see the attraction in blk men but not vice versa? Even after all the mistreatment, father abandonment, public degradation, blk women still stay race loyal, for the most part. Why is that? We know blk men won't change, because they don't want to and don't see the need to. So, that means that they believe they've reached their peak in life and there is no reason for them to continue to grow spiritually, mentally, emotionally, financially. I guess they are perfect and everyone else is imperfect? Blk women it is our duty to change our mindset. It is not for us to force others to change. If something or someone is hurting you, you have to walk away. We are never going to be adored by a group of men that secretly and publicly hate us for simply existing and giving birth and staying to raise them. We need to love ourselves more than any man could, then there is no room left for any man with bad intentions to influence us, regardless of race. Beauty is internal first before it radiates out.
