Same, I send my friends who are unfamiliar with the larger ereader universe, but interested in trying one for the first time, to your channel. Your content is well done, easily understood, actionable, organized, shot well, and its nice to finally have a diverse face in the ereader space! Have you considered doing one for students? Maybe something that focuses on how low-income college students can access ebooks affordably? I would love to pass on your stuff to my students!

I used to read physical books back in the day but over time due to lack of time and space, I slowly stopped reading frequently. Recently I got a Kindle Paperwhite and I rediscovered the joy of reading - it's the best compromise. The screen looks like paper and you instantly don't have to worry about space. You can also read multiple books on the go, as your library follows you as long as you carry your Kindle.

You could also add that some books are heavy to hold while reading or have fine print that is hard to see, reasons I switched to kindle. My eyes are not so good so on the kindle I can make the print as large as I need to. Another reason I switched to a kindle is that my house is being over taken by too many books. I just can’t add more. And I am making space in my house by buying the kindle version of some of my books (the big heavy ones) and donating the books. And I am waiting for color to come to Kindle!

The thing about the physical book vs ebook thing is, fine, objectively speaking, kindle is better. But there’s something about a physical book that you just don’t get with a kindle. It’s the feel of the paper in your hand, the weight of the *thing*.

Great video and what a nice setup for your recordings. I buy Kindle ebooks if the content is mostly text-heavy. But, if the book has art or a lot of pictures, I'm still going to get the physical copy (art-of books or photography books). (Those last points probably go without saying.) I also LOVE the ability to buy the Kindle version of a book and add on Audible books at the time of purchase. I go on walks during the day and listen on my iPhone in the Kindle app and then seamlessly pick up reading later in the evening on the Oasis. Also, I was nodding my head in agreement as you were saying that one of the benefits of a physical book is the ease of knowing your place within the book and that sense of accomplishment as you move through it. The percentage read on the Kindle never is as satisfying as physically turning pages - and I've had a Kindle for years!

I almost always read a book initially on an e-reader, and then buy it physically if I really enjoyed it. I’ve wasted so much money in the past on physical books that I didn’t end up liking. $0.99-$9.99 is a lot better than $9.99-$34.99 if you’re uncertain of the quality of a book. Plus, then my bookshelf is only full of my favorite books!

I love physical books. I love getting one in the mail, flipping through them and displaying my favourite books on a bookshelf. But now almost 10 years since I first got a kindle (the trusty old kindle keyboard in 2011), I much prefer reading on my paperwhite. The most important thing for me is that I can change the font size, font style, margins etc and customize it fully. Plus the frontlight on my kindle makes it much easier to read at night as I don't have to have a light glaring in my eyes. Moreover in India, most books are not only much cheaper on the kindle store but many books are just not available as hard copies here at all. Also this was a brilliant video, clearly explaining the benefits of a kindle. There is so much misinformation regarding e readers in general that this is much needed.

@@Maneetpaul But you have gone and got the best of the best (the oasis) as your first e reader. So of course now anything below that would seem like a compromise. I've gone from having a full keyboard, to one with just a d pad, to the first paperwhite with touch and a glowlight to now the third gen paperwhite with the sharp 300 ppi screen. I've seen the devices evolve with time and I think the paperwhite now has developed into the defacto e reader with the basic also being good enough for casual users. The oasis still remains the luxury item in the kindle lineup and the one reserved for most avid readers.

I had the kindle keyboard (3rd gen.) since I was in junior high. I've had it for 10 years. This year I bought the latest kindle paperwhite and it has been incredible. Two things really struck me: (1) the price is incredibly low. I got mine on sale for $90 and then I paid more to get rid of ads and buy the amazon leather cover (which I love despite the community's distaste for it). (2) the durability of the device has gone way up. It's now quite waterproof and with no bezel, it is super clean and doesn't collect dust. Add the tough case to the equation and you've got a massive library in your bag at all times. I live in Manhattan and a small apartment matched with the great places to go read at in the city makes the kindle a dream.

For new books, I do like the Kindle: I'm more just interested in just reading the text....it's straight forward and I can store so many books. I also like that I can change the font or size. Over the years, I have collected art, cooking, and medical books that are better as hardcover books (they have illustrations and/or photography that just seems nicer in printed form). I can get some of these books on eBook, and see them in color in the Kindle app on a tablet.....but it's still not the same experience as a physical image. PS, I do like that you mention the Kindle deals....I found I haven't used them (apart from First Reads), as I don't find them as engaging as books that still cost a bit more. It seems quite a few non-fiction books I find out about and want to read don't go down in price as much, but they are still cheaper in Kindle form vs paperback or hardcover.

Great content! I’ve spent a lot of time wondering about that question as well. Physical x digital books. And although I wanted to like physical books better, the benefits of the digital are just unbeatable. My conclusion after all was exactly like yours. And I would add another benefit of the physical book. You can lend or borrow a physical book. I think you can do that with the kindle too, but it’s not the same thing. My father doesn’t like reading physical books, so we are constantly sharing books with each other, and that is a great thing about physical books. How you can sometimes lend someone a book and change their life. But all that aside, I totally agree with you. For serious reading, digital books are just better. Really enjoying all of your videos!! Really great stuff. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much for this comment! Totally agree with you. The one thing I've learned about lending books is that people are more likely to read it if they buy it themselves. Before the kindle - in the ancient times, you know :) - as an avid reader during vacations I had to have at least 15 to 20 books for 3 weeks with me. That put a lot of weight to my luggage and one time it was very costly to pay for that at the airport. And it was stress, too, when I had finished all books and still some days left while in a country without any books in english or german available or any books at all (p.e. in Egypt) :D These times are gone now and that alone is great. Additionally, my eyes are getting worse and reading physical books becomes more and more difficult . So the kindle is one of the greatest inventions ever made for a book-addict like me. I've made a compromise of sorts. I bought a Kindle as part of my moving to a minimalist lifestyle. There are just too many functionality advantages to the Kindle. The two big ones for me is font size and the dictionary built in. The compromise is that I'm reading J R R Tolkien's entire works to include everything posthumous. Those I am reading in physical books and want displayed. Everything else is Kindle going forward. I downloaded The Lord of The Rings and the one I downloaded didn't have the punctuation over letters like the books do. Also the maps are easier to turn to and find. So anyway. Tolkien, physical books and on the shelf. All others on the Kindle.

One thing I did purchase with my kindle was the rather expensive but really tactile leather case the more I use the kindle the more i enjoy it. One downside of the kindle that has to be noted though is that all diagrams pics and charts are all black and white one advantage of reading e books on an I pad.

The reason I own e-readers and use them more now than physical books is simple: I’m in Southern California and real estate is super expensive here. I ran outta space for books and other physical media. I can think of some reasons physical media is still better than an e-reader: 1 My old school books, as well as some regular books, aren’t available as e-books and 2. Some books are terribly formatted electronically that I’d rather use a physical book. You’d think these problems wouldn’t exist nowadays, but they’re actually very commonplace. PS - Books don’t require Internet connectivity and electricity (other than a light in a dark room) 💡📶🤔🧐
