Convenience usually beats sentimentality for me. I have an enormous physical library that I love, but now I’m moving and can’t afford to bring it. I read much more when I use my ereader and it feels more future proof to be able to take it anywhere. Lately I’ll buy a physical book if it’s a nice edition or very special to me, and I still save more starting with ebooks. Not to mention ebooks are much more widely available

I’m in the same boat! Also moving soon and I’m only bringing the books that mean a lot to me. Everything else is on the Kindle.

I've languished so much over the pandemic, which led me to losing my reading habit. After watching your Kindle content, it was enough reasons for me to get one -- and it was totally WORTH IT. Instant reading rampage! I've only had my Paperwhite for 2 weeks, and I've already finished 7 books! The convenience of having access to multiple books at the same time was a total game changer. Challenged myself to read at least 20 books before the year ends. If you're the kind of person who wants to read more, I think the Kindle is definitely worth the investment.

Ebook advantages: (1) the smaller footprint when taking it with you; (2) auto-bookmark: being able to put away the book without having to grab a physical bookmark to not lose your place; (3) being able to search for keywords; (4) tap-and-holding directly on unusual words to look them up; (5) they sell Kindle format half the price of the paperback (6) instant gratification, don't have to wait for the book to arrive in the mail

Why I'm never going back to paper books (in general): 1 - Being able to carry your entire library with you anywhere you go. 2 - The epic Search feature which can look through your entire library for that name or phrase that's on the tip of your tongue. 3 - The amount of free and cheap books you can get on Kindle, plus the immersion feature. 4 - Obtain a book nearly instantly. 5 - Get instant definitions and translations. 6 - File all your notes in one place and have them emailed to you as reminders (Thank you for this life-changing tip).

I was against the kindle but I prefer the kindle over physical books for a variety of reasons. During this pandemic it was a life saver. The main reason I love the kindle is my reading before bed. It is so much easier with a kindle. I don't need a light on so when I am done there is no getting up to turn it off. I can read in pure darkness with just the kindle on and that has helped me go to sleep much faster. The one thing I miss about physical books is my monthly trip to the bookstore to buy books. I miss getting in my car on the sole purpose of feeding my reading habit and killing a hour in a bookstore just perusing the shelves at all the books. I know I am not suppose to "judge a book by its cover" but I miss looking at the physical covers and seeing a book that might interest me. Then reading what it is about on the back and deciding if I want it. Doing that on the internet just isn't the same.

I've been a Kindle reader for 9 years and I love both reading ebooks and physical books ! However, last month I've bought myself a Kobo and I must say I'm impressed. Many of its features were added in the new Kindle update, but Kobo just has some small touches that shows that it's really for reading lovers. For example, when reading a book, there's a dark bar at bottom of the screen to show you the progression. Reminds me of when you look at how far in you are in a physical book. It's the small things like that you know ☺️

Yup to all of these. The #1 thing I miss reading a physical book is easily flipping to get a sense of where I'm at in the book. And my #1 LOVE for reading on my Kindle is note-taking so I can review. I love being able to search my notes when I say, "what was that phrase (or quote), again?" I'm definitely going to check out Readwise based on your mention.

I've bought Kindle books which I have in paper version because they are so portable and I don't have the nuisance of bookmarks falling out. I read books in several languages which means I used to have to have a dictionary with me. Now I don't have to limit myself to one language when I'm travelling and for the first time in my life, I have room for clothes in my suitcase :).

The one thing I miss by reading my Kindle, is visiting used book stores. I am fortunate to be able to read fast, and had gathered quite a large library by the time I was 80, and my hands were quite arthritic. Then I discovered the Kindle, a box of books is very heavy, but the same books on a kindle weigh less than one paperback. My fingers no longer cause pain after reading for a long time. Except for my favorite books I have given most of my books away, and storage has become less of a problem, even if I have almost 2,000 books in my Kindle library. Thanks for your helpful hints, now if you could just bring back the listings, instead of the stupid cover photo's (LOL)

Strangely, there's been no news coverage or announcements regarding this situation. is it possible that Kindles are being phased out of the Indian market? Could you please investigate further and provide any relevant updates or news on this matter?

I agree with all of the points but have to disagree on the sustainability part a little ~ i think as sustainability goes both kindle and books production take a huge effort of earth resources and human work! In the case of books is related with trees and inks and with kindle is related with the primer resources that pose a huge risk to extract. Overall is more sustainable to buy a book just because there is less of a threat to humans than the kindle. A lot more people are suffering from extracting the materials necessary to do the kindle and other technology not to mention child labor… it’s a tough situation … however I think it is important to make a choice based on what you need. I own a kindle because I am in between being an intentional reader / bookworm and for me the kindle has a purpose and an aim. Nowadays people buy just because which I feel does more harm then good! Anyway it’s a choice ~ great video

I usually read with my kindle on the smallest font size, and the medium spacing between lines. I did a comparison with a physical copy of Indestructible (A WWII Navy Pilot Memoir) A their really was almost no difference in the amount of words on the physical page vs how many words fit on the kindle, and that's on my voyage with the smaller screen size. I'm sure it also depends on the physical size of the book, and how it is printed.

@@yaimamartinez9576 Ah! I was thinking about the pages that look like an x-ray on the manga when I said that. Pages that look like x-rays (i.e., you can see the next page right through the current one you’re viewing) are usually resolved by the refreshing function. The issue with the book cover is a common complaint and I’ve also seen it with my Kindles, which is why I changed the displays to “lists.” Before that, I was restarting my Kindles to get the covers to display and sometimes that would work, but they’d get that problem again later on. I’ve owned both and highly recommend the oasis if you’re an avid reader and the price difference isn’t a big deal. The warm light on the oasis is a game changer, in my opinion. I think 8 gb is more than sufficient. 32 gb feels like overkill unless your entire library is audiobooks and even then, you can just use your phone for audio.
@AMUSIC33
@AMUSIC33 3 жыл бұрын
Cristina is correct in her response - Oasis all the way! I've owned the standard, the Paperwhite, and the Oasis over the years. The page turn button, slightly larger screen and the warm light are essential if you like to read a lot of books. These are, of course, not essential, but the high-grade materials on top of those make reading on the Kindle Oasis such a joy. I'll never be able to go down in a model again. As far as memory goes - unless you want several audiobooks on yours as well, the 8GB is more than enough. I got the 32GB because of the deal on Prime Day in 2020, but even with a few audiobooks, I'm nowhere near filling it. And, I tend to listen to my audiobooks on my phone rather than the Kindle Oasis.

I actually just traded in my oasis for the basic Kindle and I couldn’t be happier. The warm light wasn’t enough for me and I didn’t care for the larger size either. I love the size and feel of the kindle basic and it now comes back lit.
@rodhernandez4134

All the models now come with at least 8 GB of storage, which is enough for thousands of books. As far as which model to get it really depends on your budget and personal needs. Really look at the differences and see for yourself. I have a basic model an dI love it. Sure, I don't doubt I would enjoy the Oasis, but its the advantages it offers aren't enough to justify purchasing it at such a high price. My basic does what I need so well that I am fine with it.

@AMUSIC33
@AMUSIC33 3 жыл бұрын
History would lend itself towards a new release this year...and, in the past, Kindle units (not just Oasis) have typically released them between July and October. So, if you want to be certain you could wait until later in October to see if additional rumors pop up. The original Oasis was in April 2016. V2 was released in October 2017. V3 (current Generation) was released in July 2019. That could lend itself to a new release...but, with the chip shortage and pandemic impacts, Amazon could try and stretch that release even longer. I was watching as Prime Day approached for 2021 and they weren't doing any huge blowouts of the Oasis, so it's not like they were trying to clear inventory that hard either. It's a tough spot for a pricey item that is older (in terms of tech), so I get your concern. If this were standard times and there wasn't a chip shortage, I'd assume there would be a new release. As it stands today...your guess is as good as mine without any rock-solid leaks or news (which there are not a ton of new ones). Let's see if Maneetpaul has any other insights though - that's just based on my internet queries and thoughts on the history of Kindle releases.
@RiSo1988

Thank you for your reply. Highly appreciate your efforts. I think I'd wait for the next gen Oasis. Apart from usb C, I feel they'd also bump up the screen to 8inches. These 2 upgrades are worth waiting for.
@rodhernandez4134
@rodhernandez4134 3 жыл бұрын
There is no telling when they will provide a new model or what features they will include. I think the latest gen are pretty solid choices. The USB micro port doesn't seem like really much of an issue. You can always use a magnetic cable to charge it up along with the other devices if you don't want to have different cables laying around. I think you are missing out on the change to enjoy a great reading experience on a hope of a new model which will do little to improve on what is already out there. But, if you want to lower your risks, purchase the basic model while you wait for the unknown new Oasis. THe basic model is great. I have it and I am not at all disappointed with it.

@@rodhernandez4134 I have ordered Paperwhite twice. Once back in 2014, but I didn't like it at all. It was frustratingly slow in loading anything! So I had returned that one, got myself an ipad and continued being a physical book reader and read quite a lot on my ipad too infact! Until last year when the pandemic hit us and I again ordered a paperwhite. I used it for a couple of months before I gave it to my friend. I gave it a fair shot this time around but tbh, I didn't enjoy reading on a 6inch screen. Maybe cos' I have always read physical books, and on the ipad. I also did not like the built quality of paperwhite at all. Kindle basic is way to go for sure, but I aint even satisfied with paperwhite.. @rodhernandez4134 3 жыл бұрын
@@RiSo1988 Maybe wait for a sale? But don't wait for a new model to come up. Using a case on the device helps with the feel of the build quality. I wouldn't worry too much about the build quality as it seems they are built to last as the majority of owners report they have their devices for many years. Up to 8 years for most cases. Like any device, if you take good care of it it should last for many years to come. The battery will burn out before the rest of the device does.
