Lol I know that I'm three years late, but the simplest way that I can explain it is that physical change temporarily changes the state of an element/compound while chemical change permanently changes the state of an element/compound. For example, if you melt a pen, you will still have the plastic that made up the pen. If you burn the pen, however, you'll get chemical change since all the compounds that make up the pen will become a gas and the only thing you'll have left on the ground is black carbon.

Then wouldn’t peanut butter be a chemical change since you need to mix it with another substance to make it into peanut butter therefore changing its chemical substance?

nope because physical change occurs when 2 or more substances are dissolved in one another. Also natural peanut butter is just grind up peanuts which mean it had just gone through a change of state( solid to liquid)

when you grind peanuts into peanut butter, the peanuts themselves have oil inside them, so technically you do not need to mix in anything else

There is a physical change and the salt is dissolved, but you didn't create a new substance, you can still boil the water out and get salt. Therefore it is not chemical, but a physical change.
