Having a physical copy of the gane used to be fun they actually had the instruction manual. You know they would Hage instructions on how to play the game. Pictures, art, maybe some lore. Some type of backstory. They might have included a map. They would put cool art that you could flip to see from outside the gane case

For digital games, once they're removed they can be gone forever. Activision used to have a ton of licensed games like Legend of Korra, Transformers: Rise of Cybertron and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance now they're removed from digital stores you will never be able to play them unless you already own them digitally or own a physical copy. For games like Legend of Korra, you can't ever own it ever again unless you bought the game before Activision removed it.

The best option is to have both digital & physical.. you have more choices for prices.. especially when some online stores dont actively adjust prices alongside the retail stores. Or maybe they do, but they use it as a marketed "sale" when it's simply just not worth as much anymore. Ive saved lots of money by getting digital or physical depending on what the official store has (if an actual sale) versus stores like amazon and wal mart that simply always list it cheaper than launch

For me it depends on the console. For example, starting with the PS4, I am all digital. I do have some physical but that was before I made this decision to go all in for that system. I have an external hard drive and no concerns with space. As for the Switch, I try to go physical if there is a physical copy available as the game does not need to pre-load which then acts more like a cartridge. Basically, if the game has to be completely loaded off the disk in order to work and you’re only using the disk for license confirmation, I would 100% go with the digital copy instead.

Both, but definitely leaning more towards physical because it feels like you actually own the game, and will for the foreseeable future, so long as you don't scratch or damage your media. Physical is always better than digital. You pay for a product you can actually hold in your hands. Overtime physical copies become cheaper while digital versions can sit on the original retail price for at least a year. If you don't like the game you bought physically you can resell it or trade it in and get (some of) your money back. With a digital purchase, you're entitled to that game you don't like forever in most cases. No refunds of sorts. Physical releases cut down waiting times as you don't have to download the entire game. The only advantage with digital is it's much more convenient.

I think the main I have about digital is the point your games can be taken away by either the company or the hacker and if you buy a game you can't get a refund once you download it. This is the problem with playstation, don't know about the rest of the companies when it comes to refunds. Also now that most games don't come with nothing or just a piece of paper(an advertisement or a dlc) it's doesn't quite matter no more about getting it physical. I just wish for refunds they would have a demo for all the games or a 2 day refund policy/ a day refund policy.

The best thing of digital could be if its an old game you want to play it, like 8-10 mínimum years old, because most of them are remastered for new gen consoles, so in the marketplace those new remastered games in “physical” are kind rare and because are old, no much people are playing them so at this point the resale value for physical format isnt worth it… in the other side if you want play most of the new games, i think is totally worth it buying them in physical because of the cost / benefit, you can buying it used in excellent condition at good price and reselling it if you want it in 3 or 4 years at least, and also the physical is worth it if you are a collectionist or like certain game so much so you buy the collectors editions, those are the 2 most important reasons if you are consider to buy physical games, digital its the future tbh

I personally prefer physical, because then I have less fear about heckers or if my console ever breaks,... But I think that's mainly because of the price. If digital wants to be the future they are going to have to have a great refund policy, people should have fast internet, games not being taken away, and have demos for all of their games. Later on I will be buying this console called the polymega for retro games. I really like the fact that if you have the game physically, you can also have it digitally without needing to put the discs/cartridge in the console again. They also have a digital shop. Additionally the console can play the NES, SNES, PS1, Genesis, and so forth if they have that console included. You can also save your game and rewind back + the graphics are improved. You can also use the original controller for that console instead of buying their controllers. I just wish I would have got the polymega on pre-order when it was more cheap like in the $200 range. Anyway I usually go with both physical and digital. Most of my games are physical and a few are digital. The digital games are mainly online games which only 3 I paid for and others were free.

Also you cannot buy second hand and finally you cannot lend or borrow. Sony is aware of these things and basically wants full control if the market. This will mean higher prices with no other options. For the thess reasons it's best to keep buying physical to keep the market alive and consumer friendly.

Physical is just ultimately better there is no advantage to digital games, unless you are under the very precise conditions that you have a very small department and you physically do not have any room at all to have a collection of games, and you depend on digital games to have any games or Watson ever so unless you need to have digital games or nothing. Physical games is superior. 1) physical games are cheaper. you can save money by buying games secondhand. You can make a little bit of money by selling your games. Even brand-new games, the physical sale shops need to get rid of old inventory, make room for new. so you can get physical games brand-new discount once been on shelf for a little while. 2) physical games, give you more for your money. The base game, you get a nice case that case contains of warranty or an advertisement for upcoming games or a manual, which can give you the controls, especially older generation games. If you’re buying some sort of limited edition, that could be a steelbook case which is nice and all the other goodies that can include fake other extra pan flats early concept are alternative our case all in this beautiful box digital gives you nothing like this. 3) you own the game. Digital games, you own part of the license to play the game. that license can be revoked even after you have fully paid for . Physical games you own that game. You can guarantee that for example your game that’s on PS2 for example or guarantee to Work no matter what on PlayStation two if you own a PS5 or an Xbox series X you can guarantee that your physical disc will work for ever on its appropriate console. no company can ever come into your house and take away the physical game that you paid for. physical games actually helps to preserve the long jeopardy of your console. This is because a console that has lots of games on it slowly overtime hammers the GPU every single time you put it up because it now has to get warmer more power and it wears away at its parts, a little bit more than a physical game. A disc drive can be replaced on your games and consoles will be fine if it ever wears out or brakes, but if you’re SSD or HHD ever breaks because it’s being used a lot or just wears out that’s all your downloaded games gone. If you’re console please physical games only and you don’t bother with any digital downloads that takes the load off your council and your council now has to do less processing power in general and will last longer. 4) it doesn’t matter how big of a memory that you can ever possibly have. my 20 or so physical games on shelf is always going to be more impressive and look better than 20 downloaded games. my 8 MB PS2 memory card is all the memory, my PS2 is ever going to need for over 100 games. You can argue that modern games are bigger and therefore take up more memory and consoles have more memory now. I’d have plenty of memory for plenty of games which they don’t. I own an Xbox series X 1 terabyte memory. I managed to fill its memory up with 22 downloaded games. A friend of mine also with an Xbox series. X one Tate refuses to download any games and all of his games are physical and he has already about 70 games taking up less than 10% of his memory, because the memory is only using the save file of the game. 5) consoles, breaking or dying out of age, physical games will not be affected If your console breaks or dies out of age, your physical games are fine because there are a secret thing altogether you can replace your console and you would still have your games. You will always have your physical games. If your physical game breaks your saved data and your progress is saved to the consul or the Meic card, and you can just simply replace the desk and you’re good Digitally downloaded games don’t have the same protection if your console brakes with your game collection. Your digital download game. Collection are also gone and you can’t guarantee that you would be able to download all your digital downloads again for free. Usually you can, but you can’t be promised this, you can back them up onto a hard drive or something, but again your game might be locked to your old console 6) physical games is just far superior when it comes to backwards compatibility It’s most likely that next generation consoles would still be able to play the physical games of previous generation consoles, if the next generation console supports backwards, compatibility You can make an argument that digital downloads could be a better form in the future of backwards compatibility because through a digital download, the game can be updated and optimised for the new hardware of our new console. And I will give you that I’m actually a big supporter of that and I think that’s where digital downloads live because if I wanna play my old game, the physical disc is just gonna give me the old game as were originally with no enhancements and a digital download, going to give me a more enhanced experience, whereas on a physical game that can happen, but that requires a complete new release for the game to be re-released or have some sort of remake or remastered released and that’s a whole other ball game. However, I am guarantee for my old physical games to always still work as long as they are in working condition and as for digital downloads I have no control over what games what old games from the previous generation console become available in a new one if at all. don’t get me wrong I personally think digital downloaded games is awesome. However we are not quite there yet with the technology that we have sure the technology that we have to download and play digital download games is absolutely we can do that and the game do work well and look fantastic and play fantastic but the technology just isn’t quite there yet for digital downloads to be odd to replacement to physical games until the day I can physically buy like a desk that is a key to digitally download the game to my console and when my consul memory begins to get full the console can take some of the games that I’m not playing or haven’t played in awhile and move them up into a cloud storage or begin to compress them into a tiny tiny memory format and then only reopen again and play them from there. Then digital downloads would be a perfect replacement to physical games, but we’re not there yet ever I think the best of digital download games in future even under perfect ideal technological conditions and advancements. We are still going to have some sort of physical presence. Ultimately the best move forward when it comes to digital or physical games. I think physical games are always going to be the better option because it is going to be cheaper to produce them and it’s going to be very satisfying in future for people to always buy a physical thing and actually own, it always going to be more reliable because remember this is a hobby that people are going to want to last for a very very long time for their lives and it isn’t limited to just one generation of people. Either gaming is a universal experience that we are human beings are always going to enjoy across all sorts of people, people, groups and generations to come, but like music and musical instruments, the primitive acoustic guitar doesn’t get outdated and replaced with the electric guitar. It’s a completely different beast. Digital games are never going to replace physical games ever because it’s a completely different beast. Some people enjoy playing acoustic guitar. Some people enjoy playing electric guitar. Some people enjoy listening to electronic techno, music and some people listen to more organic music with like string and wind. Instruments. One is not a replacement to the other. The same thing goes with games some people love digital download games and some people love physical games and physical games are going to be here to stay, but when it comes to Reliability even digital instruments and electronic instruments still use very old technology because of universal reliability games are the exactly the same physical descs One day might be viewed as very old and primitive, but it’s always going to be reliable. And this is actually why I say, physical game discs are here to stay, and they’re here to stay forever as long as the gaming hobby remains

If its cheaper digital then I go digital, if its cheaper physically then physical I go. Also, I bought HDD for my consoles so I don't have to delete games when the console disk drive is full, that way its easier and faster to play games.

It might not be the majority of people thinking this way but going digital will really hurt first week sales, will close stores and kill the collecting hobby only so the billionaires behind Microsoft, sony and nintendo make a buck.😒

Combination of both. I only go physical for the games that aren’t available digitally. And those are usually on previous generations. But if I become available digitally I’ll trade in the physical. Example, the Ratchet and Clank Collection and the Jak And Daxter Collection.

One very relevant aspect I don't see mentioned in this discussion is that in the long term console's disc drives are prone to failure and have to be fixed or replaced. So if you only have physical games you have to rely on your disc drive not to have any malfunction, whereas with digital games you don't even need one to be able to play your games. This will also be important for people like myself that like to keep and play older consoles and older games, specially in the Playstation ecosystem where retrocompatability has not been always assured.

I disagree with all digital. When the servers are down or gone so is the game and/or digital library. Halo 3 on Xbox 360 is shut down online but I can do Lan or aftermarket connections to play online on a server. Jump Force is delighted among other games I can access unless I either owned them before the delist or own a physical copy. I will never get to experience Jump Force unless I over pay for a physical copy. Digital is not 100% a smart move for myself.

Honestly, the benefits for physical outweigh the benefits gor digital for me. Like the game will be available to me for as long as I take good care of it (which I plan to do for as long as I can) while a digital game will become unplayable after 20 or 30 years when they shut the servers down. And the benefit for going digital is that I don’t have to stand up and walk 2 metres to the shelf where I keep my games and sit back down again. Yeah, I’ll be staying physical for as long as I can.

You missed an issue with digital games on numbers 6 and 5, availability and longevity. Digital games can be removed from the stores whenever the publisher wants to. Look at PT or the Turtles in Time remake. Gone forever unless you find a hard drive with it downloaded on it. Rarity might make games expensive, but for every single copy to be destroyed, highly unlikely. Also, while servers are up and running now, the longevity of the system plays a part in how long your games will be around. Ask anyone who missed out on getting games they wanted for the Wii. Or worse, anyone who had a large collection of games on their Wii, only to have it die. They still have their physical copies, but any digital games are gone for good.

About the arguments: 1 - Material editions are better because, at the same price, we really own it. (...not because it is cheaper, many times the inverse happening...) 2 - Physical is not only better because we can resell them, but because we can dispose of them, whether keeping, sharing, giving them... 3 - The limitations of physical editions about the digital content included is invalid, for the evident reason that this is talking about the included digital content, having the same digital inconvenients, which should not be included in a physical edition. 4 - Availability is a false question, if we compare a material edition to an edition that does not exists, but is only accessible via a license in a specific virtual store. 5 - Comparing durability of a material edition to having none is irrelevent, since, of course, we can not break a game disc with a digital purchase, we have none ! If anything, we keep temporary access, not ownership. Meanwhile, this is without mentioning the dependance of an account and the not eventual, but inevitable closure of the online service giving access to the game via license. 6 - About convenience, the "incomplete" argument comes from the editon's incompletion, that should leave a functionnal game anyway, which is better than nothing left at the end of the service. Also, digital implies a costly storage in the form of hard drives if we want to keep them all, even after being delisted. 7 - About ecology, again owning something versus nothing is not an equation, and if we would want to compare, we would have to measure the impact of all the digital system "ecosystem", from the installation of cables into the oceans to the cost of servers buildings running constantly. 8 - Beauty is a strange way to aboard the question of ownership of an object, when, this time it was mentioned, the alternative in not owning it. 9 - About speed, a digital version is far from "a complete download from the beginning"; any player know how much times frequent updates become mandatory. 10 - About backwards compatibility, it is still functional on most of the consoles having proposed it, but this is a commercial stake for enterprises, who may remove it at once materially and digitaly to make more profit. Also, we may have to purchase it once more digitally, when a version replace a preceeding one. Nb. It was not mentioned how digital editions may limit the access to our familily, when many content purchases are attributed to a sole profile or account. Also, there are distinctions to do between integral editions and the diverse forms of content dependant of an online service, partially or entirely. An let us not start talking about the so-called "free" games and their unsold paid content... About physical editions, it is the better option, but this is said with a full comprehension of the personnal reasons leading many to rely to digital access sometimes. However, let us be vigilant.
