This is great. I studied as an archaeologist, working with thermoluminescent dating and C14 dating. For lack of a decent paying job (oh, how they love free labor!) I went into training in Medical Physics working as a Radiation Therapist. I really wish KZbin had been invented back then (or the internet, for that matter!) and this had been there. I struggle finding Lambda no more! Of course, I'm a Chef now… but I still use physics every day! Convection, conduction, induction, thermodynamics...

lambda stands for "K" which is the reaction rate constant;

It is the rate of decay, like depreciation. It is just the proportion of the total number of atoms that decay per second. Like a car, if the value is depreciated by 20% every year, the total value is decreased progressively. In that case we would say the "decay constant" for the car is 0.20 in units of "per year".
