Would it not be better for the therapist to perform the glide with their forearm instead of their hand to prevent straining their wrist and giving them more mechanical advantage? I could see a scenario where that would work better with a larger patient and smaller therapist. A belt could also be very useful with this technique too.

The lateral traction component doesn't have to be huge, so it shouldn't run risk of a strain. If you feel more comfortable using your forearm - why not if it is still comfortable for the patient. A belt is another option as well.
