I wish they would have the light covered or not start until it reaches the actual water or pyhto to avoid all the extra light but overall a great product for gear heads, definitely cheaper and super easy to diy but alot of people who have been doing it are over that and want a cool looking piece of equipment even if its overpriced for what it is lol its still an awesome piece of equipment to own

Have you ever seen any macroalgae reactors as big as this phyto reactor?

Any update on how this Phyto reactor is going?
@jjmccloud3 жыл бұрын
Pro tip: when starting out with something this size make sure your "seed phyto" is a nice real rich and dark green so when you mix it with the water you start decent batch. If only making small batching like 1 liter or something then not as necessary you just gotta kinda figure out how much water it takes go dilute your seeding batch to a real light green color for starting off. If small containers it won't take near as much obviously but for large sizes you'll want some that super concentrated to save the time it would take to start doing full size batches

I don't have f2 fertilizer or starter culture. Is there anyway to do without this two ? keeping the salt water in sunlight can help ?

Hi there! Could you tell me why I shouldn't use my (freshwater) tank water as base for my phytoplankton home-farm? I believe it has no chlorine, as it has been filtered thoroughly compared to tap water. Hope to hear from you, thanks for the informative video!
@ReefNerd2 жыл бұрын
if the water is clean enough you likely can. As long as your confident it is free from heavy metals, excessive phosphate, chlorine or other contaminants

Nice video sir. Just want to ask does the Algae Turf Scrubber you where using do released phytoplankton or not.
@ReefNerd3 жыл бұрын
The algae scrubber wont have much impact on phytoplankton. Reef tanks in general dont really provide the right conditions for Phytoplankton to survive and thrive long term, regardless of whether you have an algae scrubber or not. That is why we need to culture it in a separate reactor and dose it to the tank.

Great video once again Marcus. I have a couple of questions though, what model is that air pump and is it noisy? Also, everything is sterilised but then air is pumped in which is full of life so how does this not infect the phyto if sterilisation is so important? Cheers
@ducklady19933 жыл бұрын
I wonder the same thing as pores of micro bacteria are airborne but i guess you qould want the vessel to be as clean as possible to avoid contamination of some sort. Our living environment aren't the same so the advice was made to generalise the method. I have done about 10 batches of phyto using different fertilisers and not once did I disinfect anything.
@ReefNerd3 жыл бұрын
My current airpump is a cheap no-name from ebay. I plan to upgrade it to a quieter and better one from Schego soon.

Agreed, very nice 👌
@kkrishna97913 жыл бұрын
keep the air pump above the water level it wont turn noisy sir

Also what is the protocol for the fertiliser? I get that it starts with 1ml per 1L but how much and how often after that? Weekly?
@ReefNerd3 жыл бұрын
As you split and topup the reactor, re-dose the fertiliser at the same rate of 1ml per liter of topup water

Refill it most of the time. I empty sterilise and restart it maybe once every 5-6 months or so.

I think the plankton is too light after a week, there is something wrong with the fertilizer that should be really dark green
@ReefNerd2 жыл бұрын
yeah iv found for me the 10-11 day point is the sweet spot where it gets dark enough

If you can't access live culture... what else can you do? I live too far for any Live Plankton to ship. But I used to get this Green Powder from eBay. And seller told me it was harvest using a "Room Temp" drying method, there... powder is able to come back to life and it did... She told me that I can harvest it and dry it as powder and keep it, but I never got to that... And I think I could get it anytime, I never both to keep the stock. Now the seller is gone from eBay. And I can't buy it anymore.

I am not sure to be honest. I would try and find someone who will ship to you. Its extremely resilient, and will survive shipping hell and still be viable.

I had a pacific sun macroalgae reactor and their build quality SUCKS!!! Leaked everywhere. Best is to used a glass container. One of your countrymen, Blue Reef Tank used these nice glass bottles from Ikea with great seals. Much less expensive and better quality than Pacific Sun's crap.
