The Piaggio Liberty 150 is a fantastic scooter for commuting and daily urban scooter use. And if you want, you can even cross a river in Mexico on it - but maybe keep that to a minimum. This video walks through the functions and features of the Piaggio Liberty 150.

I have both the Medley and the Liberty (125 cc for both) and they are quite different. Medley has twice the storage capacity, accomodates a passenger way better and offers a better wind protection. It is heavier and you feel it in the direction. But it feels a lot safer and stable in turns with a better mass repartition. It also has better front suspension and a more comfortable seat. Finally it has good accelerations in the 60-90 km/h range where the Liberty starts to suffer. But the light weight and the energy of the Liberty are enjoyable too and it's always a joy to ride.

You don't have the range anxiety with your gas engine scooter as with an electric scooter. Trust me, an Aggie from Taiwan, an island flooded with over 10 million gasoline scooters as workhorses daily, I would never trade my gasoline scooter for an electric one. Both Kymco and SYM are scooters of Taiwanese brands with solid quality at affordable prices.

Suzuki has an "Address 115" from Indonesia with 14 inch wheels, but the bad thing about that big wheel scooter is that Suzuki shortened the leg room due to the larger front wheel thus caused the rider can not carry groceries on the floor board as other scooters.

Hi. GREAT in depth video; thank you! Question: in real world pothole and bumpy roads, how much do you feel with the suspension provided? Also, is the rear drum brake a big concern? Much appreciated...
@VespaPortland
@VespaPortland 2 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching. Scooter suspension is the most basic of all motorcycle suspension systems. Hard bumps feel hard on pretty much any scooter but the larger wheels on the Liberty can smooth out the ride. No issues with the rear brake drum that we can think of. Squeeze both brakes evenly to come to a nice smooth stop.

Great walk through..detailed yet efficient. So, I'm in NYC and size and girth of scooter are important considerations..stuck behind a garbage truck? That's prob why I'd choose this over the more traditional Vespas like 150LX or 300 series. So, that being the case, it's between this Liberty, the Kymco Like, Genuine Urbano 200i and the SYM Jet 14..although I agree with your assessment about the over plastic aspects of some of the Asian models..kind of like Transformers aren't they..lol. Anyway, thanks again for valuable input on this model...

Thanks for the information. What is the flashing red light. What is the fuel tank capacity (not anywhere in the manual)
@VespaPortland
@VespaPortland 2 жыл бұрын
1.5 gallons for the fuel. But the design is a little weird where part of the tank is higher up than the other part so unless you sit there and wait for the pressure to equalize you may "fill it up" and then notice that it's not entirely fully on the dashboard. Robot at Scooterwest/Vespa Motorsport has a KZbin video about this if you care to check it out. The light is the immobilizer warning light and details about it are on page 64 in the owners manual.

Hey there! Love your videos and I'm learning a lot about the scooters so I appreciate you for that! I haven't bought a scooter yet because I want to make sure I make the right purchase and all that. After watching this video and your Buddy 170i video, I had a couple questions. If the Buddy engine is larger than the liberty, how come the liberty can go on the freeway more and go faster? Also, choosing between the two, which do you prefer? The liberty 150 or the Buddy 170i? Thank you again and appreciate your input!
@VespaPortland
@VespaPortland 11 ай бұрын
I’m a bit too tall to comfortably enjoy either scooter but if you plan on riding freeways often I’d go with the Liberty. The engine architecture, gearing, and overall build is better than the Buddy 170 for that sort of application. CC’s don’t always tell the full story in top speed. You’ll get about 62mph out of the Buddy and 68mph out of the Liberty at full throttle although both might read a bit faster in the speedometer those are the real values. Take care!

@VespaPortland
@VespaPortland 2 жыл бұрын
Generally scooter tires are going to lean toward urban use. If you look at the number on the side of the tire which will look something like 130/70-12, you can then enter that in google and just add “off-road tire” to the end of it. Should bring back something if it exists.

How do you turn off the immobilizer alarm if something set it off while the bike is parked/locked? I just bought mine on Sunday and reading through the manual, it mentions the system but offers no info on how to turn the alarm off if it gets set off...? Unlike Vespa's, there's no key fob with a dedicated alarm button, so I'm wondering what i need to do before my neighbors murder me if I set this off one night by accident so it's not blaring waking everyone up for miles around for 15 straight minutes.

How many miles could one expect to get out of this scooter assuming it is properly maintained, and riding on regular asphalt roads at normal driving speeds, in two scenarios, 1 - always parked in a garage, and 2 - always parked outside, but under a tarp?
@VespaPortland
@VespaPortland 2 жыл бұрын
The main difference of parking inside or outside is going to be related to fasteners rusting, panels fading, etc. The Piaggio scooters have incredible engines. Even riding it full throttle for multiple hours straight won't hurt it. Maintain the services and you'll have that scooter for many many thousands of miles. The highest miles we've ever seen on a Vespa engine was something like 80,000 miles and it's still going, on the original engine with no rebuild. Thanks for watching!

SYM is a bike manufacturer from Taiwan. Both Kymco and SYM are Taiwanese brands with solid quality. There are over 10 million scooters in Taiwan being used abusively as workhorse daily. Nice video but a few bits of incorrect information. The ‘dry’ weight is about 258 pounds and the wet wait is closer to about 273 pounds. The Honda PCX160 ‘wet’ weight is about 286 pounds. So while the PCX is heavier, it is more like 13 pounds heavier. Also, the carrying capacity for the Liberty is 683 pounds, inclusive of the weight of the bike, so the carrying capacity is more like 410 pounds or so - which is still great. Other than that, awesome walk through. Imm deciding between the AVD160 and this, but haven’t seen either in the flesh..
