Tackling the subject of flutter pedaling is no small task, but I did my best to take a stab at it. Why? Because flutter pedaling is an essential tool, used to effectively blend tones at the piano. It's a subtle art, but oh what beautiful colours of sound we can achieve when we get it just right!
I should add that I use flutter pedaling in conjunction with much finger pedaling (i.e. overlapping of key). My efforts to figure this stuff out are largely due to being in love with the sounds created by pianists of the Golden Age such as Paderewski, Cortot, Rachmaninoff, Pachmann and many others.
As my musical example, I have chosen var. 25 from the Goldberg Variations, BWV 988, of J.S. Bach (1742). Wanda Landowska referred to this variation as the "black pearl." Ooooo..❤️
Performance begins at: 8:23
Side note: My apologies for the issues I'm having with sound and lighting. The final scene is particularly rough. It feels like once I've figured out one thing, then another six things go wrong. I have much to learn about making videos!
