I am glad to report a happy smiley face for 2018 regarding the major scale. Your channel is a gold mine, but that tutorial on the Cycle of 4ths/5ths is a personal treasure. It's included in my daily practice along with fingerings for each major scale. I'm excited to see what this year will bring. However, I am curious to know what is the average turnaround to learn a song from music sheets? I have three songs I started. None of them are finished, but I am not sure if I'm practicing them correctly. For instance, on the grand staff, is there a standard way to practice it? Treble clef and bass clef together? Treble first then bass? Thanks in advance!

Hi Bonnie, it’s been awhile, glad to have you back 😊. So the speed of learning music from a sheet depends on the complexity of the piece, your skill level as a player, and how fluent you are as a note reader. Which that being said, here are some tips: 1. Work on two measures at s tone hands separately, slowly. 2. Once you can play those two measures hand separately comfortable, then you put hand together for those two measures only. 3. Once you get those two measure sounding decent, you repeat the above steps for the next two measure. 4. Follow this method until you complete the piece when you start practicing the piece beginning to end. 5. If you notice sections that you’re not comfortable with or you’re fumbling, isolate those sections and and apply steps 1 and 2 above How that helps :)

Yes it has been a while. I've been working hard to make some things happen. Thank you for checking back so quickly! It helps a lot to know this! After reading your response, it looks like my common sense would have kicked in, huh? Lol! I didn't trust I was studying the right way. I've been pressuring myself to build a repertoire songs quickly. I see there's no quick way about it. Thanks again Warren!

I want my scales and runs and blues to be cleared and fast, for one year I have been doing everything u mentioned in your well rounded piano 🎹 tutorial. I structured my session into four, 3 keys of either my pentatonic, blues, major, minors, arpeggios blocked and broken, chord diminished, augmented, min, major, etc...in rotation, my popular 12 weeks progressions, repertoire, singing my intervals, and lastly my scales in octave. I split one hour up into these things everyday.

Hey Warren, thank you for the tips and all the videos, they helped a lot for me to improve my piano skills. Here is my question: In the next 2 months I will be traveling abroad and away from my piano. I worry that it might delay or even stop my progress of improving. What should I do or prepare for what is to come?
@PianoLessonwithWarren5 жыл бұрын
Nah 2 months won’t affect your progress. Use those two months to work on ear training and listening. You can do that while away for the keyboard - practicing singing the major scales, major and minor arpeggios.

Warren please do you have lessons on Finding key of a song ?
@PianoLessonwithWarren6 жыл бұрын
Dominic Amoo no unfortunately I don’t. However, that’s trying to treat the symptom instead of the root cause. If you’re not able to find the key of a song quickly then these are the things you need to practice: 1. Progression ln all keys 2. Major scales in all keys 3. Learning how to sing the diatonic intervals. You need to strengthen your ears to hear the tonal center for any key and this is how you do it.

Thanks. will do exactly as said

Riki Mamea the best key is the key that fits the singer. Who’d be singing the song? If you’re playing it instrumental then learn it in the original key.

Thank you so much for interesting tips to stay focus in this year! So could you give me a FAIR WARNING, please? I will NOT play through different speed in every exercise everyday. This will probably drive me crazy. Let me start with a Slowest speed, hands separate and play through all of the exercises at that same S-L-O-W speed. Once I've been got comfortable with a slowest speed, let me go straight to the next speed and play through all of the exercises at that speed EVERYDAY. Eventually, I want to be able to play them altogether as Both Hands at the HIGHEST SPEED and I want to be amazed how much SPEED, POWER and DEXTERITY that I'll gain. Blessings to you in the New year.

I still don't know where I am whether I am making progress or not with all of my musical ambition. All these musical lessons still overwhelmed me and man.... alot of the stuff still alien to me. I Still like jamming and finding chords by listening and then keep on practicing from there. But I would love to do is adding more than that, more variation, more other chords u you can use, intro variation and ending, fill in, changing it into other kinds of genre and many more. I went to your channel hoping to find if I can learn something new and add to my current beginner skill. Even I upgraged my old keyboard from Pcm keyboard into now DGX 660 so I can play piano better. Still long way to go I think. About the tutor stuff I would prefer it for my daughter instead of me but she still like her acoustic quitar instead of the piano. If I find anything usefull I am still downloading your channel for keeps and replaying it so I can understand it more in practice better. Happy new Year Warren from family and I look forward more of your lessons.

Lumadi Bawono so back and watch the video... you’re trying to do too much too quickly and this is why you’re overwhelmed. You need order and structure BITE SIZE information. Grab the practice templates I recommend in the video and you’ll start to see progress.

Hey. Warren. I learned so much in 2018 😁😍😁. I am up about 4am and play everyday until 6am at least. 2019 is looking great. Hope your coming year is a fantastic one as well.😄 Looking forward to starting Piano lessons with Warren I think intermediate is where I will start because I play triads, 7ths major, minor, blues scale and more in all keys everyday. My goal is too play at church and have them perform the 3 hyms I have written by the end of 2019.

@@PianoLessonwithWarren You would be the first to hear them, and I would be so happy to have you do so. I am struggling with the arrangement. I am writing it for Soprano, Alto,Tenor and Base harmonies for Piano only. My guitar is lonely so, I will be spending January and February with your lessons and lessons from Larry Beekman classical guitar, while I work on the arrangement and music drafts. At some point when I am braver I will play them for you. I am working on the ability to record them on a CD with my workstation synthesizer.

Hey Warren. So. How about some face melting Super Hot Shout music and some " Is there an Organist in the house?" support for the Preacher music? You could sell these loops in your own AP and do a break down lesson. I use these tempos for my major, minor, blues scale practice. It is rough but it is starting to come together. The call to worship service, passing of plate, seating, announcements are all music for services I must practice for church band.
@PianoLessonwithWarren6 жыл бұрын
Stephanie Guilmenot hmmm “face melting shout music” Lol. Well to be honest, there isn’t a lot of that done at my church, didn’t grew up with it In Jamaica, so don’t believe it’s in my wheel house ( though I can fake it lol). Preaching chords I’d have to look into 😊
