Ever since I was blown away by hearing Bill Mays for the first time, about ten years ago, I've wondered why he isn't better known. Fascinating to see this early performance -- thanks for posting. (It had also never occurred to me to wonder why Red Mitchell was called Red.)

A superb coupling of marvellous talents: Mays has long been held in the highest regard by his fellow artistes and Mitchell was one of the great lyrical virtuosos of the string bass. A meeting of great musical minds. thank you so much for posting.

sadoldpedant: I have known about Bill Mays for over 20 years, and I feel the same way. I met him in person, and he is a great human being. He is not only a fine pianist, but he is a composer, arranger, and has written music for films. His book "Stories of the Road, the Studios, Sidemen & Singers: 55 years in the music biz" (2014) is a must read for Bill Mays fans.

Red Mitchell un grande que me marcó en mis comienzos como contrabajista en aquel histórico concierto en Paris cuarteto con Brockmayer Mulligan y Frank Isola, inolvidable!
