A friend of mine taught my chord inversions a while back. Such a game changer for controlling the sound of a song! The same notes came be played in two different ways and it can sound almost like a completely different song!

Yaay I'm really happy that you went straight into the lesson and stuck to the drill with as little side stories as possible in between. This really helps me focus on the task. I really appreciate it. This is by far my best lesson of yours. Thank you.

I've stopped formal piano lessons when graduating high school, now im 30 and trying to break out of playing root triads, so boring. This is the best video i have ever found to learn chord inversions, hands down!!! So fun and takes the mystery out of how to jump your hands around the piano with ease. Just follow your 3 and 5 and the rest is magic!

Yes, helpful. For another video more related to how these inversions in this progression would more likely be practically used/played, I suggest staying in the same register on the keyboard. C chord, move pinky whole step to A = Am. C chord, move top 2 fingers up one white key = F. Move entire hand up one white key from F = G. Or C chord, move bottom two fingers down one white key = G. (C chord, move thumb down one white key = Em.). These patterns hold in other keys for going from I to IV, V, vi. This video is great at showing the inversions, but still ends up with a lot of hand movement. A major reason for using inversions is to minimize the amount of hand movement between chord changes (plus a more polished playing sound).
@angelaa.4437
@angelaa.4437 5 ай бұрын
Yes, this is exactly where the next stages/lessons lead to. Minimum movement between chord changes.
@drutgat2
@drutgat2 4 ай бұрын
david9847, minimising hand movement is the least important reason for using inversions. Inversions provide the opportunity for different sonic 'signatures', 'feels', and so on, and can provide variety, and therefore increase interest in a piece of music.

I have Fl Studio 21 and it has a piano roll and you can select the scale chord you want to play. The chords in the scale are highlghted. I'm learning the scales that way. Plus I add 808 and drums and that makes it more fun. I want to learn the basics from this channel so I can have better melodies. I also use different instruments like bells, the harp, a synthesizer, among others. I also think outside of the box which is fun. My two favorite scales are C#/D Flat minor, D#/E Flat minor, which are dark. I experiment with different keys outside of the chords and I found some interesting sounds. It's so much more fun playing chords when I use a different key outside of the chords I play. I want to learn how to play trap and rap and hip hop.

One of my biggest questions about inversions is what do I do with my left hand since I play octaves with that...and you took a while to show what you did with that which was just stop at the root position...or is it ok to keep playing that?

Question for anyone… Ive considered breaking up with my piano instructor. She’s very classical based. I’m still learning the basics and I’m sure I’m learning good skills but I’m also getting bored. Her stuff is not my style at all. I feel bad leaving her. It is smart to stick it out for a while to get the fundamentals down? I’m also nervous I’ll find someone new and not like them either.
@benkabundi5308
@benkabundi5308 6 ай бұрын
You should definitely wait until you have the fundamentals down, cause those will help you out in the long run. Once you get comfortable with the basics, you should then find someone who’ll teach you that fits your preferred style of play

I went through this also. Go find a teacher who will teach you what style you're interested in learning. I wasted so much time with my original classical teacher.o learned more in one year with another teacher who taught stuff like this than in 6 years with my original teacher.

Lisa, each time I watch your hands I see how close with your fingers to come to almost hitting two keys down at once, but you never do. I occasionally do, so what can you suggest how not to? I try mentally to keep my fingers aiming towards the middle of the keys.
