As a side, I took up piano at 65 and now I'm over 70. All the physical activities that I used to do I really can't do anymore and really don't have the strength. Playing the piano on the other hand is something I can do for hours if I want and I get the same satisfaction...in fact, more. My regret is that I didn't take it up sooner. Stick with it Kaitlyn...you'll never regret it.

I gave up piano 20 years ago. Then one day during lockdown I started practising with a simple and cheap electric keyboard which I bought and never used. I found Lisa and I liked her style so simple, fun and easy. and I started enjoying playing. I upgraded to a digital piano and made such a difference. I played one of Lisa tutorials called beautiful and emotional and people loved it. Since then I played everyday, playing the piano gives pleasure to you and to your family and friends. It worth the effort and is never too late:)

This was me before. The reason why I started learning the piano is for me to be able to play it at church and play songs in general however a few months into it I felt frustrated. Problem is I wanted a shortcut and so I ended up stopping but wonderful things take patience and time. Thankfully, got motivated after a couple of weeks just thinking of the reason why I started it at the first place... I still have a long way to go but now I'm proud to say I can play songs so long as I have the chords(which I just Google) I'm telling you guys it's okay to maybe take a break if you feel overwhelmed but don't stop completely. The piano is such a beautiful instrument and I'd say being able to play it is worth all my minutes/hours of learning the keys, major scale, chords, chord inversions and finger practicing. Let's keep going, we can do this!💪

Had a 4-year-old break my casino piano, the only thing I was glad it was not plugged in at the time. That was great hearing a student coming back to music after stopping for an extended period. Lovely vocals that really multitasking, you using the sustain pedal while your student plays the notes. Well done to both of you. Miss playing the piano myself, had to stop because my nephew broke the piano. Now he is old I am thinking of purchasing a new one.

I think that quite a few people get impatient with themselves. They want to play but after they start learning, get discouraged at their rate of progress. I think kids have it easier. They can have fun at every level. Adult learners want to perform like artists they admire. I agree with the suggestions presented here. First, think about why you want to play. Play something you love but keep it simple. You can embellish later. Practice fundamentals even when not motivated. Fundamentals aren't really fun. But your hands and ears learn things that let you play more complex music, and that IS fun...

I'm struggling to go back to the piano mainly because I believe I have Tunnel Carpal and I'm so afraid to hurt myself. I've been really careful with my hands these past few months, just taking care of them and considering going to the doctor, but with all this pandemic stuff I don't know. Its funny how I came across this video at a time I'm stuck in a rut with guitar I sidelined my guitar to actually accomplish something on piano now that I have I cant find anything that inspires me to learn anything new on guitar. I'm in the middle of learning blackbird on piano because its impossible for me to finger pick it on guitar I think the last song I learned to play on guitar was Elton John's your song. Ya I'm a little ass backwards learning piano songs on guitar and guitar songs on piano. At this time I have no problem finding something that motivates me to learn songs on piano I'm going through all the stuff that physically impossible for me to learn on guitar and applying it to piano like blackbird by the Beatles or fire and rain by James taylor. If only I could think of something to motivate me back to my guitar

Come on Kaitlyn, please don't give up. Your fan base here wants to see you going on. And, as Lisa correctly mentioned in the video, whenever you find yourself in trouble with motivation, then ask yourself about the "WHY". Why did you decide to start piano playing? Probably there was something that you thought you will get as a reward from playing piano. Look, I'm an old man still struggling to keep my both hands synchronized, but nevertheless, I'm practicing every day. Because my "WHY" is that this half hour of working on the 88 keys (as well as playing guitar and bass) disconnects me mentally from all the stress and pressure of the daily life. Its my way to recharge my "batteries" for the next day. I don't want to make a living from piano playing (probably they would rather pay me to stop torturing the piano), but it makes me relaxed and contributes a big part to my "work-life-balance". Maybe you had similar intentions when starting to play the piano, maybe you have other reasons. Whatever it is, don't worry, we all make mistakes and we usually treat them as an opportunity to grow. Best wishes from Germany, please take care and stay safe and healthy.

Hey Lisa I’ve Been following this channel for a long time and it has helped me a lot😊 I wanted to know something. When playing a song with the melody , how do I figure out the chords without trying unnecessary combinations since a note could be the root , a 3rd or a 5th. I also wanted to know in which situations do we use different kinds of chords. I’ve been relying on KZbin a lot since i cant afford literally any lessons online or face to face ( although I’m really tempted to buy yours but I can’t afford it ). Any amount of free specific advice would be highly appreciated😊😃 if u want u can only answer the 1 st question because that’s what I want to know about. Although u made several videos about chord progressions honestly speaking it didn’t help me😅(sorry). Please do not ignore this comment 🙏🏻 if u do not want to give information for free, I definitely understand 😊 but at least reply.

Hey there! We actually have a video on how to match chords to a melody: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYO2fJ2AiMqJgNk Knowing what key signature the song is in will be a HUGE help - because that will give you a really good idea of what chords to expect. This lesson is super helpful for that as well: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJ7NeWeGl6mBm6c Also -- if you're looking for some free lessons, we have an entire series on chording which is super fun: www.pianote.com/chord-hacks

It's almost 2 years later and no more new player videos of Kaitlyn. She has, I assume, a free teacher, a beautiful piano, and great encouragement and yet she seems to have given up. What chance does an everyday person have? Maybe these music instruction channels that suggest anyone can play these instruments are not factual. Perhaps piano is not for everybody, nor music. I am an old new pianist and was inspired by these videos, now I am more discouraged than ever.
