I like musescore, I'm still a beginner musician but I used it for the first time just a month ago and it's not too difficult to learn. I've used it to replicate really hard to read blurry music from IMSLP so I can print it out and have a much easier time reading the music. I also have used the play feature when I'm not sure I'm playing a piece quite right. Handy software.

I now use nothing else. It's a joy to interact with. Copying and pasting is a breeze, so too transposing (no silly accidentals), no need for constant tool changes, the arrow does it all, even page dragging. To play back from anywhere just click a note and hit the space bar. Export as Midi, right click and 'open with...' (Logic or whatever) to get a better playback although the native playback is OK for aural checking etc and there are loads of instruments, even a Bandoneon. The team can be arrogant and obstructive at times but they know what they are doing and deserve credit and gratitude. Excellent!

Best general , basic intro to MuseScore. However, re composing, would it be so much easier to play instrument(s) and record in MIDI, save as .mid files. Then, just play recorded midi file in MuseScore, which will turn file into sheet music. A lot easier than manually input notes one by one. Further edit and refine as necessary, and playing/composition can be published or be first draft for further work and embellishment later. But, thanks very much for this excellent intro of sw, with or without subscription.

I use Musescore to notate music that I've written. I'm trained in music theory but am a terrible piano player. Musescore helps me overcome that problem! I can pretend to play things I really can't. I picked up a MIDI keyboard, for about $100, to help enter the notes. It isn't necessary, but for some the tactile feel of a keyboard is helpful, and I'm one of those.

Is it possible to play a song and have muse score convert it into sheet music?

Is this app able to just jot the notes down automatically on the staff if someone is just playing music on the piano ? I just want to play music on piano and have an app to convert that to sheet music while I am playing it. So basically take input from microphone, detect the notes and put them on the staff.

Ok it’s time for me to stop wasting time! I’m here I showed up and I’m ready to learn to play the piano , music theory and music composition. I am currently studying music theory for dummies and after music composition for dummies and I have Alfred’s piano lessons book 1 . If I am to study with your content, where do I start? Do you have a course you sell online? Or should I just start on your first video and work my way into the present day video? And May I say you are very beautiful 😍 Alicia🥰❤️

Dorico also is free and is my new all time favourite music notation software, I can't recommend it enough. Also implements integration with VSTs and VST fx, also everything you compose in notation is immediately translated into MIDI and it goes both ways.

@@barryhunt8527 Yes and no. Dorico has a free version that can do most things you would need to do as a solo piano composer/arranger and much more. The paid version allows writing for large ensembles and advanced engraving.

@Sterling Godwin Hi, you can register to do the exam without a teacher. You just need to decide what grade you'd like to go for to begin with, according to your skill level and experience. The ABRSM website should be a good place to start. Good luck. 👍🏾🎶🎹

why cant we learn from midi input playing in it? theres no feature to learn sight reading using musescore coz it doesnt work like those piano tutor softwares right? It doesnt take midi input

I would love to like your video, but I suggest you use a mic closer to you: With the different modulations in your voice, we lose a lot of what you say. (Did you check the video?)

Sibelius is good but costly. Plus there can be incompatibilities between operating systems and software updates causing malfunctions. Also, often activation codes are often declared "invalid" licences too, because of glitches. When Sibelius works it is super, - when it plays up it is purgatory! Technical assistance is difficult because again they will claim your product is not registered even when it IS. I have defected to musescore. BTW I am a professional arranger. M

So Allysia, you put tons of works in your video's, you use all the tricks of the trade, very good editing, have a Patreon account, use all social medias. And then this video has just 7k views..... And only 20 comments.... I am not a musician myself, but I view some music vids that get so many views.... Paul David's guitar lessons: millions of views. David Bennett Piano: hundreds of thousand views. And many more examples. I think you could get many more views as you are a good speaker, know your stuff and know how to get things across. My take on how you could attract and keep more viewers: • Make the thumb nails more serious; now the look like too teenager-style, like you're a lip stick vlogger; The colors, the font: they scream: not serious, teeny bopper! ! Just make them more serious, and a tad more simple. No funny faces, but show somethings of the promise of that episode: always show a keyboard or musical score. People want to _learn_. • Make the background more simple. Not your "oh, I just sit down between my everyday stuff in my small dorm". Just an empy wall, a few props, some color lighting (not too bright, add drama). You personal music studio. Always use the same settings. In a few vids I 've seen a bookcase study setting, a room with tow piano's and living room. People want recognisability. Speaking of which: all the different clothes and hairstyles distract from the message... I'd advice a black short/sweater and your hair not loose. • Use a lapel mic; now the sound has the echo of your room which is annoying and distracting. A Rode Wireless Go set will do the trick. You want to have the mic as close to your mouth as possible, without pickup sounds from clothes etc. • Speaking of sound: calm down! You're talking like you're gossiping with girl friends in a hurry. Most youtube viewers have English as their second language. Give the viewer some time. Play your vid at 75% speed, and you'll come across a lot more as someone who has something important to say. And, oh, a bit less hand waiving and juggling would improve the viewability of your vids too. • Specialize on something specific. Now your subjects go all over the musical spectrum. Choose your audience. Are they pianoplayers that want to improve their skills? Would-be composers ? I saw a vid directed at teachers?.... Describe your perfect viewer to yourself and focus on her. Focus. Paul David has a vid on "How to play the C-sharp with your middle finger in the D-minor chord"* and spends 20 minutes on just that. (*) • Don't be a talking a head for too long at a stretch. Sure, you're pretty to watch at, but talking heads are not what people want to see for more than a minute at a stretch. Instead, produce more b-rolls and do more voice overs. (Don't be afraid to repeat b-roll clips, even many times). (An Analysis of Clair de Lune at over 100k views mainly consists of paintings and scores (thus b-rolls)). So, I hope these remarks do not upset or insult you, they are just the things that crossed my mind when I learned of your vids today. I hope you think a few of the remarks are useful to you. Success with your series!

lovely video! I have a question though, I've been playing piano for a long time (classically trained), I've played a fair few pieces before, liebestraum by Liszt, the twinkle twinkle little stars variation by Mozart, I've learned the second and third movement of Beethoven's emperor concerto, but right now, I'm not sure about what to learn next, I have so many pieces that I absolutely love, including actual piano pieces, and orchestral pieces like symphonies and stuff that can be transcribed for piano. I have a particular preference for concertos and I would absolutely LOVE to learn a new one. Could you suggest: a) A concerto b) A sonata c) A nice, medium-ish length piece Could be anything from any classical period (though I tend to have a tendency for Romantic pieces, but I'm trying to get into Bach a little more, especially the WTC and Art of Fugue- I know that's complicated stuff!). I'm a grade 7 ABRSM but I've played pieces that are above my grade and I think I'd like a reasonable challenge, not something too easy, but not something that'll demotivate me! I know it's a long comment but I would really appreciate your feedback! Thank you and hope you're having a good Christmas! Keep up the great work!

If you are looking for ideas at your level, I sometimes browse the syllabus for ABRSM / RCM as they are now available online and have a huge lineup of graded ideas in all the different 'eras'. The K445 by Mozart has really accessible Variations like the "Twinkle Variations" (also by Mozart) and has the super fun Rondo Alla Turka that is so well loved. I love Romantic style repertoire as well and played this piece called "Legends and Fantasies" by Raminsh that was so wonderful to play. It's a contemporary piece, but very lyrical and interesting for something different. Erik Satie's Gymnopedie No. 1 is very popular (You can spot it on Rosseau's YT channel) and It fits well under fingers and isn't too long. That one does well with lots of chord analysis. I haven't leapt into Concerto's yet, but was thinking I needed to ponder that too. Good luck with your studies! PS. The Novelette by Poulenc in C Major is also super beautiful for a Grade 10 RCM piece.
