Hi Gooligum Electronics. Could you tell me if the PICkit4 supports the PIC16F716? I can't find a cheap programmer to program the PIC16F716. Thank you very much and greetings.

Congratulations buddy , first video that I saw explaining SNAP X PICkit4 and why snap sucks. Lot of vendors hype with SNAP and nobody really talking about these "little differences" . And the problem with PGC and PGD was really a find. I will stay with PICkit 3 at the moment. Thank you.

Thanks - yes, if you have a PICkit 3, there's really no reason to change if it supports the MCU's you're working with.

Is PICKIT 4 able to program PIC12C509A?

Does SNAP support all features of PICKIT3 ? I am a beginner and want to start with PIC's. You recommend me PICKIT3 or MPLAB SNAP ?

Quick note, none of the debug headers, emulation extension paks or processor extension paks are yet supported by Snap, ICD4 or PICkit 4 as of MPLAB X5.10. You'll need a PICkit3, ICD3 or RealICE.

Thanks for that! Debugging is something I really hope to do videos on - the "blink an LED" stuff is (most people seem to agree..) covered fairly well in my written tutorials, but the process of setting breakpoints, single stepping, examining variables and memory, and using a simulator is much easier to show in a video. So hopefully everything will be working with the newer debuggers by the time I get around to it.

Yes, a couple of times, but just briefly at trade shows and meetups

I still use the pickit 2 with the mplab X ide. Just set up X to use the simulator. Then with the pickit 2 software, import the hex file and write to target as usual. The process is a little longer, but I'm not in a production environment. So, it saves $$$.

A video about the ICD4. Thanks

Maybe. As everyone can see, it's been a long time since I've added any PIC videos - it's difficult to find (or, more accurately, justify) the time needed to put them together. Nevertheless, it's on the list.

You need to do a review of the pickit Plus software which I can highly recommend.

What great insights. Would like to a review of PICkit Plus. A new version of the software supports all the new 8-bits and has a lots of news features including the parts that MPLAB cannot program, supports recovery of Bandgap, HEF/SAF support!!!!, all new command line utility, Windows 10 support ... lots and lots of new feature. And, it is supported! And, a lot lot lot easier than using MPLAB-X

Thanks for the suggestion - yes, I could look at it sometime, it would be of interest to a lot of people. Should probably focus on getting some more video tutorials done first though!

Being posting often, but, the UI has not changed from the 2009/2012 application. But, I do like your idea. I will post more over the coming weeks. I will cover installation, usage and advanced usage.

Thanks for the video. Couldn't understand most of what you said, but thanks anyway. Please ARTICULATE your words, or wait until the novocaine wears off.

Hi, sorry I don't speak clearly enough for you - my Australian accent can be a challenge, I know. And I've long had a problem with stuttering, so end up doing a few takes of each phrase and it becomes a bit stilted. The later PIC tutorials are a bit better in that regard though, I think. Anyway, that's what the subtitles are for - all my videos are subtitled in what I think is English... Just turn subtitles on! And hey, this is the Internet, so of course comments about novocaine are to be expected.
