This is how they remind you he’s actually French and not British. This and wine.

Its one of the first songs you learn in French, along with "Alouette, Gentille Alouette" so kinda like how "Mary had a little lamb" or "twinkle twinkle little star" is a basic song for English speaker

Is Canadian and French is mandatory Grade 1-9 so you are so right. As soon as you hear it comes right back.

Or like how frere Jacques is a basic song for an English speaker 😂 we’ve got our own translation

I think it was nice if Darren to scale it back to basics. She understood or suspected Picard was nervous playing around others and didn't want to see him get flustered, so she took it back to basics to get warmed up. It's a common technique for new starters who may be anxious at first.

As an aging musician I found this to be really sweet. I have a lot of anxiety playing with others nowadays so bringing it down to something like that would be great to help get me back into the feel of it before we kick into something more complex. Gotta warm up the synapses AND the fingers, yknow?

I dont know. Im a musician and sometimes it is necessary to go back to a basic song if you’re playing with a person you haven’t played with before. Even covering a well known song everyone plays their own interpretation

That's how you learn how to play a musical instrument. You go back to those basic songs.

Picard’s also *clearly* a secret Drinker - That whole Guinan/Riker conversation in BoBW2 is where it is made clear : Guinan is Picard’s *sponsor* in A.A. •knocks belts down a quadruple shot of Green in ONE -• *“Aldebran Whiskey* - •Scotty looks *astonished* • Who do you think *gave* it to Guinan [which means, *he has MORE.* ]…? “

It's not insulting. It's finding a way to get on the same wavelength. That's how you do it, with the basics.

How did the kids know it in Disaster? Did Picard add it to the school curriculum?

All Federation children learn that song as children, that and drinking root beer... It's insidious.
@bertdog211919 күн бұрын
I learned it as a child in a Montessori school and if you don’t think every Federation School is a Montessori type school then you’re tripping
@jordanmcgrory217112 күн бұрын
No, I think that's fair and realistic. When you're building the particular skill of playing in groups, there's other things to focus on so going way down the complexity scale helps.

I don’t remember if I knew it was Frere Jacques. But I’m quite certain they used it because it was in the public domain. This is a bottle episode after all

Climbing up a ladder in a freaking starship in freaking space is so unnecessary. Why aren’t there convenient off switches for the artificial gravity in areas that would certainly benefit from zero G, especially in an emergency? Or is artificial gravity such a necessary and robust system that it takes targeted damage to a specific area of the ship to shut it off, like in ST6? They lose life support and engines all the time, but never gravity. You can live without gravity for a very long time, but heat and air and humidity are bit more necessary. Life support should also have multiple redundancies…but weapons and shields seem to be the only systems built with that in mind. And the multiple shuttle bays on the D.

“The Borg were *unstoppable,* and *far TOO powerful* for Mankind to *ever* defeat. *Before* this episode, exploring the galaxy had been portrayed as something that Humanity was *good* at. Kirk was *entirely* confident and capable of overcoming *whatever* space had to throw at him. In *this* episode, the crew were reduced to begging the omnipotent Q to save them and bring them home. From that point onwards, Mankind could •no longer• view itself as master of *all* it encountered. *Humanity was out of its depth. Somewhere out there among the stars lurked something that •humbled• us.* By series four, Roddenberry’s status had diminished to the extent that the show could produce an episode which dealt with the *troubled* relationship between *Captain Jean-Luc Picard* and his *brother.* *Roddenberry HATED the script, for he did •not• believe that the twenty-fourth-century Picard would HAVE dysfunctional family relationships.* The episode showed Picard *solving* his problems by *punching his brother in the FACE, engaging in MUD wrestling,* then *getting DRUNK.”*
