Very cool man! I've been playing bass for a long time (20yrs) but never seriously thought about playing the piccolo bass until now. Thanks for the inspiration!!!

A lot of people buy short scale basses, bronco bass , ibanez mini, and put piccolo bass strings on them, they sound great with distortion or reverb.
@CaseyVan4 жыл бұрын
I tried it, but I wasn't happy with any of the tunings. I was shooting for one octave above E but the string tension was so tight with 20-52 I felt like I could cut myself on the G string. I'm trying to figure this out. From what I understand the high string should be E and the low string should be D. I'm going to try that.

Ironically, I bought a Bronco Bass and got some D'Addario piccolo strings and converted it into a piccolo.

So glad I stumbled upon this. Absolutely beautiful playing. The concept of a piccolo bass is rather contradictory and I wasn't sure what I was about to hear. It's such a unique tone, unlike that of a guitar. So are these strings with a smaller diameter, playing an octave up? Sax player here so not too well versed in string world. Either way this is amazing, so glad I discovered you speaking through this tone color in a genuine way man. 👍🏻

Bang on the money, piccolo strings are thinner strings, similar to but not exactly the same as guitar strings. They're a little longer to accommodate the length of the bass and have a larger ball-end (the little bead thing at the bottom that secures the string at the bridge). Hope I managed to get your answer to you five years on
@kellnola3 жыл бұрын
it's not contradictory if you consider the bass viol / piccolo bass viol. The piccolo is louder, double bass' biggest problem is it's volume, note the scarcity of concerti for double bass - it's not really loud enough to play in front of an orchestra. Not true of electric bass guitar of course, but the concept is ok, it becomes a tenor instrument. Kind of strange, but not "contradictory"

This is what I need!!! I think I'll be putting piccolo strings on my bass. As a guitar player, I rarely use the high B and E, those are my weaknesses when it comes to soloing. I've basically looking for the cross between bass and guitar with 4 strings, slightly longer neck than a traditional guitar

Baritone Saxophone The tones of Guitar and Piccolo Bass are not the same because of "Scale Length" and "String Gauges" Normally, Bass 's scale length is 34" or in some cases if the bass is a short scale one, the scale is 30". These scale lengths are obviously longer than regular guitar. And the string gauges for Piccolo bass are bigger than 4 bass strings of Guitar. Those factors make the sound of Piccolo Bass different from guitar and also if you want to play slapping, it is easier to do slap stuffs on Piccolo Bass than guitar.
