The scene where Goku flies off with Chi Chi is the last scene in the manga which end the final volume of DB and the story continues into the first volume of DBZ while the anime, there are five episode of filler, this was done by writers to give Goku and Chi Chi a bit more time with adventures danger before settling down

Technically, the manga doesn't even differentiate the Z chapters. It's still just called "Dragon Ball"; although in the English translation done by Viz, they did add the "Z" to the title once the Z chapters started. But that's only the English version, not the original Japanese manga.

Seeing Piccolo being so murderous and vile is such a tone switch from how calm in collected he is in the later parts of Z. The greatest headbutt in history.I really wish they kept Launch around😭 she gets straight to the point. Goku’s will power in this fight is unbelievable even when he has a hole in his chest and a broken leg he doesn’t want the easy way out. That line from Chi chi was so heartbreaking . I don’t see anyone saying it, but the reason that Goku survived the last attack from piccolo is that he used the last of his energy to fly out of the way. In the manga, Goku deliberately didn’t show off that he could fly the entire tournament so he could catch piccolo off guard if he needed to. Which is why Goku in the 23rd world tournament is considered to be at his smartest by many people.

So ends the BEST fight in all of Dragon Ball. This combined with the Saiyan Saga back-to-back is honestly the greatest period of Dragon Ball. It's not well explained in the fight, but the whole big shock of the finale is that Goku knew how to fly the ENTIRE tournament, but kept it in his back pocket until the very last possible second to get the drop on Piccolo. One last trump card to catch him unawares!

8:09 While they don't really explain in it in the English dub, In the Japanese version they say "his flighting" at this point. Its a blink and you'll miss it moment, but in the manga its given more focuse that its the flight technique. Mind you its very limited at this point of the story, nowhere near the superman flight we have in Z. Goku not using the agility for the entirety of the tournament meant that he could use it now as a final trump card against Piccolo, draining the entirely of whatever strength he had left to avoid Piccolo's final blast. And as Piccolo waisted the entirety of his remaining energy on that atack, he was left completely defenseless against Goku's, who got aa critical hit on him. (TFS GOKU): Just acording to cake

Piccolo doesn't chill out until he starts training Gohan. Piccolo developed the Special Beam Cannon in his time preparing for his and Goku's rematch. It took Raditz as a superior threat to get him to ally with Goku. After that, Piccolo decided to train Gohan in anticipation for the other Saiyans. That's what did it.

A great ending for a great arc. As far as the manga is concerned, from here it's straight to Raditz. Even though the separation between OG Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z is exclusive to the anime and the English manga, I believe this arc can do really well as either the end of the first half of the story (as it's done officially, and as an epilogue to the King Piccolo arc) or as the beginning of the second half (if you want to treat Goku's adulthood as the cut-off point and this would serve as a prologue). An effective transition stage, if you will.

He's more into beating Goku at the start of Z and then of course he has Gohan and meeting his people to find a new direction GT is rough. But give it a shot! Buu Kai was only out a few years after the rest. And then we can all watch Daima together.

Freeza arc has notorious filler arcs. Every time 'Geets goes over the Legendary Super Saiyan, it was an excuse to fill another 5 minutes rehashing animation to tell the 'story of the saiyans'. Or it they rehash animation for Goku coming to terms with his Saiyan heritage. Let alone the very subpar animation in episode 89 where all the action are looped and looped and looped during Freeza's fight with this hands behind his back. It even got worse when it was broadcast in my country, cause the reran the show like 3 or 4 times before they the initial Goku vs Freeza fight.

10:15 its not clearly conveyed in the anime, but Goku figured out Bukujustsu AKA the flying technique, (Tien' technique that he never got learn or figure out) last second and flew away from the explosion before it hit him. You can see the enwrgy forming around Goku's body, right before the attack hit the ground. (The aerial fight between Goku and Tien is filler. They werent flying in the manga, they were just falling with style)

I remember after his fight with Tien (but only in the manga), Tien says he got so cought up in the fight he never got a chance to use Bukujustsu, a very subtle foreshadowing for what happened here. @@sleepplease378 it is not weird, actually. Its the crane school who invented the flying technique, and then Tien teaches it to everyone else during the saiyan saga traning arc. No one is able to fly before that. Goku never had a chance to meet Tien before the tournament. Heck, even on the Saiyan saga, Goku still uses nimbus to save energy and for speed. He only ditches numbus after training with King Kai, and the fight with Vegeta. Its not that easy to do.

Goku willed that Dragon Ball rule into existence, I refuse to believe that Kami didn't remeber or even lied about the fact that Dragon Ballz were liked to his own life. Goku's been all over the world and no one has come close to being as strong as Piccolo, and the Sayian in him wasn't just gonna let him pass on the chance at future rematch.

Kami didn't forgot or lie, he planned to sacrifice himself to remove Piccolo from the world. Also there is no reason to believe Kami cannot lie for some reason like a universal rule. If there is a rule like this that applies to Gods in the Dragonball universe I'm not aware of it wouldn't apply to Kami because he's a mortal Namekian. You have the Goku rematch mentality spot on though, Goku said it himself

I do think you should watch GT next. While the quality of execution is shit compared to OG dragonball and Z, it actually has a lot more unique ideas and plot points in my mind. It has great ideas, a dream i always had was to see it redone by toriyama, with his level of choreography and artwork. I had hoped super would redo some of the GT ideas, but that didnt happen, now sadly it never can. But GT is still worth watching for this reason. Also its short.

(Japanese for flying technique, I hope I spelled that correct LOL) It's supposed to be the revelation that Goku has learned the flying technique. Goku technically it hasn't been flying up to this point. I know it seems like he's been flying in the previous tournament fights, but technically he was just jumping really really high LOL

I think it's worth continuing the dragon ball series by doing DBZ, GT and finishing off DB super from episodes 1-96 and as a bonus, you can do the movies and specials. Even if you did watch some of it, you can get a lot more out of it and KZbinrs can appreciate it by continuing it, if you're able to enjoy the classic Dragonball and abridged, then this should be apparent to go for it and you can do this in two days like you usually do but it's fun to reminiscing about how you watch it and you can expect a lot of comments from those who follow you. Take it from me, it's always good to recap the series that captures the heart of millions and continue to talk about it
