Uncle Bob is the best Terminator in the Franchise. The actor who played Dyson suffered a collapsed lung earlier in life, and essentially recreated the "shortness of breath" he had gone through for the death scene as he figured the character after being shot like that would have had the same. One of the story arcs I love in this film, as the Terminator becomes more human, Sarah becomes more machine-like. When she attacks Dyson, she's efficient and methodical. Only Danny throwing himself in front of his father snaps her out of it.
@lukeball49373 сағат бұрын
I’m still surprised that we haven’t gotten a saying or meme from Sarah actually pulling the trigger. Like with the “Han shot first“ type of thing. 21:45 Sarah Connor is part of the reason why I hate it when modern studios say the reason a movie failed is because "Men can't handle strong female heroes," we loved Sarah back in the 90's.
@TheRealGSmith6 сағат бұрын
Write your heroines well, like Sarah or Buffy, and nobody has a problem with their gender. Write characters poorly and everyone has a problem with them, gender or otherwise. It should be fairly simple.
@LucianDevine5 сағат бұрын
Yup, exactly! Sarah is such a flawed and broken human being, and understandably so! She knows and has seen more than any human should have to. So it led her down a path that she never would have gone down otherwise. Then we get to her escape, which the movie specifically points out that she's tried several times before. So we know she's effectively been perfecting it. She also didn't effortlessly overpower any of the men she took down. She used a combination of surprise, distraction, and weapons to take them down, because she knows that they have height, weight, numbers, and an experience advantage over her. She has to act quickly and decisively, or she's going to fail again. Then at the end, she rightfully panics and runs like a scared little girl when she sees the source of her trauma, in the proverbial flesh before her.
@thejamppa5 сағат бұрын
I agree. Studio's weak excuse for writing bad female characters: "Men can't handle them". Used in Acolyte and She-Hulk's failures, while same time, universally loved Fallout had Lucy, loved and highly praised heroine. Yeah. Write characters well, people like them. Regardless of gender, color, sexual orientation or creed. Granted there's always trolls, but you get my point.
@JLRules5 сағат бұрын
If this film came out today, it _would_ be attacked by certain people for having a strong female hero. Ripley from the _Alien_ series even moreso, for "emasculating" all the men.
@LucianDevine5 сағат бұрын
@@thejamppa And it's so simple too. Cast for the role. Don't write a role for the casting, especially if your writers can't write worth a damn. One of these processes leads to a natural flow, but the other ends up forced and contrived.

This film strongly reflects the idea introduced by Kyle Reese in the first film that he comes from "one possible future," suggesting that history is subject to change. The future Kyle Reese grew up in doesn’t have to be the same for Sarah and John Connor if they succeed in preventing Judgment Day, meaning the events of August 29, 1997 may still be averted. Though the film never confirms if they actually did prevent Judgment Day, concluding on an open note it does leave us uncertain about whether this dark future has truly been stopped. Only time will tell. There is an alternate ending for this film that shows an elderly Sarah Connor in a utopian Los Angeles in 2029, watching over an adult John Connor and her grand child in the same playground she once had nightmares about. A timeline in which Judgment Day was prevented and John grew up to become a father. I’m not sure which version of the film includes this ending, but I’ve seen some reactors watch that ending. It's not the "canonical" ending but I guess you could argue that it's canon within a certain timeline. The time travel in The Terminator films can be confusing, but I’ve always understood it this way: every time someone travels back in time, they create a new timeline. The actions taken in this new timeline don’t affect the one they just left. So, the Kyle Reese we saw in the first film couldn’t change his own timeline, but he could protect Sarah Connor and potentially create a timeline where Judgment Day never happens. Closer to Avengers: Endgame time travel than this say Back to the Future. I actually recommend checking out the other films, even though some people older than us like to pretend that only the first two Terminator films exist. Personally, I think the sequels offer unique takes that are enjoyable in their own right. Sarah Connor Chronicles is also a really great TV series.
@BreetaiZentradi4 сағат бұрын
I read the novelization at the time. Which of course is official "cannon" at the time, to be displaced when they make a new movie that contradicts it.Two big things stand out in the novel 1. Around the scene where Arnold is standing there guarding and Sarah realizes he is the perfect Dad for John. John finds out the Terminator can be put into "learning mode". So he pulls a chip out of the terminators skull, flip the switch on it and puts it back in. From that point on the Terminator starts becoming more "human". 2. The book as an Epilogue. John becomes a very powerful US Senator, and uses that position to squash funding for anything AI related that comes down the line. He is happy that his mom Sarah is "mostly normal now". After 15 years of running around like she did and nearly being killed by two terminators, that is the best you can hope for.

As much as I love Ripley, I think Sarah Conner blows her away as a character. Getting to see Sarah Connor as a very average and typical young woman, then seeing the transformed, gritty, version of herself years later is in itself amazing. But then also getting to see her at her most fallible, and then most vulnerable when she goes to murder Dyson and then gets talked down from it from her son, to then again being the strong protective mother at the end. Its just all amazing character development and execution. Not to knock Ripley, as she's also a great character. But there's just so much more going on with Sarah Connor that we get to see.

14:15 - "This dude's been working on his cardio" You're not wrong he was an athlete but trained at running with his mouth closed and no expression for this movie. He was so fast in the first take he caught up to the bike. The bootstrap paradox... Time travel creates the thing they time travelled for... The short version is Time happened. A sequence of events unfold. A time traveller goes back and "alters" the sequence of events, causing time to happen. A loop forms. You can no longer determine cause and effect. It is possible that the "first time" John defeated the machines it took longer and he was not as healthy or skilled... then Reese time travelled and became the father, a survivor - born with the strength and skill to live in an apocalypse, now John v.2 is smarter, healthier, and learns faster how to defeat the machines. Loop restarts. John v.3 is not only healthier but his parent(s) teach him skill before the war. Etc. Oh and they used twins for the duplicate scenes. Terminator 3... was not as great. Especially after the wait for it. There are other movies, but the first 2 are the best. T3 gets a lot of hate, not all deserved. That said... they are ok if you go in with lower expectation.

Hi “The Mirandalorian Reacts” I just wanted to reach out and let you know how much your channel means to me, especially your reaction to Terminator 2: Judgment Day. It’s my absolute favorite movie in the Terminator series, and seeing it through your eyes has honestly made my day. You bring such an amazing energy and fresh perspective that I can’t help but watch over and over-it’s honestly brilliant! I recently came out of the hospital after a life-changing and life-threatening situation, and it’s been a tough journey. But watching your reactions has been such a source of comfort and joy during this time. Knowing I can rely on your content to lift my spirits and bring a smile to my face has meant the world to me. So please, keep doing what you’re doing because you have a forever supporter right here! Thank you so much for everything. Your reactions are a bright spot that I truly look forward to. Can’t wait to see what you react to next! All the best, Reacher

It's called a temporal paradox or time loop paradox. The time loop supports itself. A: Sara survives and trains John. B: John defeats the machines. C: Machines send a Terminator back in time to kill Sara. A: Sara survives and trains John. A leads to B, B leads to C, C leads to A, A leads to B

At about 19:00 -ish. Yes, and no. You have stumbled upon what is commonly known as the Bootstrap Paradox. If the first terminator and Kyle Rees had not been sent back in time, Sarah would never have known about Judgement Day. But they were and she did, so she trained John to be the leader of the resistance against the machines. And, without that training and foreknowledge, John might not have been able to become the leader that he was known to have become. Um, I mean, the leader that he was going to have been known to have become. I mean, the leader that he was going to have been known to going to have become. You know, time travel really screws with grammatical tense formations.

What a lot of reactors don't notice is that the kid from the restaurant at the beginning of T1 who puts the scoop of mashed potatoes into Sarah's pocket, is actually a young T-1000. Part of the process with liquid metal is that you have to grow it, like a crystal. So he has a whole backstory of living in Long Beach and trying to make it with his junior high rock band. (They make it as far as the national Battle of the Bands competition held once every five years in Hoboken, Montana (sister city, of course, to Moscow, Pennsylvania) They go all the way, but at that exact moment the T-1000 has his 18th birthday, at which point his instruction codes are unlocked, and he begins his murderous rampage.) (James Cameron is currently working on a film about that murder spree called Last Call of the Broken Promise. It's supposed to be his first comedy-drama.) (Starring the corpse of Harry Dean Stanton, as he just couldn't resist continuing to be in every movie ever made.) So yeah, the mashed potatoes in the pocket are actually a time-activated starch bomb. Technically a smart bomb, but no one in development could wrap their mouths around the words "start smarch"... I mean "start smarch"... No. I just said that. I mean "smart starch". So anyway, great reaction!

Fun fact about the Shotgun in the box of roses scene ... Arnold Schwarzenegger wanted "You Could Be Mine" by Guns 'n' Roses to be in the film and after the song was selected, he had the band over to his house for dinner and screened that one scene for them to show how much he and the rest of the film makers appreciated them licensing the song for their use in the film. Which is why the "gun" is hidden in the "roses".
@presencerocks22244 сағат бұрын
Are you sure? The song debuted with the music video for T2. The Use Your Illusion albums wouldn’t come out until a few months later. I don’t know that Arnie knew that song and would have wanted it. He may have wanted GnR though as they were huge at the time

The trick to the time travel in the Terminator movies is a lot more complex than just jumping into your past. Every time a jump happens, a new timeline is created. Skynet knows that it can't save itself by sending Terminators into the past, but understanding what is happening, it is trying to save the version of itself in that new timeline. Things get seriously metaphysical.
