Popo's Training is my favorite filler arc, but this arc is a very close second! One of the very few times we see Chi-Chi on an adventure with Goku. They are so cute together! And this is also the last mystical-like adventure that the series has before Z goes into pure raw action.

Goku actually uses the nimbus in early Z too. Flying took energy, and nowadays they have so much that flying is pretty negligible. That’s how I’ve always took it anyway.

HELL YES! When I was a kid, I watched the first DB series years before I was even aware DBZ was even a thing. I've seen the series through reruns so many times, so becouse of that, THIS is what comes to my mind when I thin k of Chi Chi, the two of them goin on adventures together. Years later I was somewhat confused how Chi Chi went from this to her portrayal in DBZ, and often got annoyed when people called her a terrible character. I was like..."no no no, that's not what Chi Chi 's like, she was way better in original DB, and I would mention this arc as her bets depiction. To my everlasting annoyance, I would lean much later that this entire arc is non canon, as well s a few other anime only episodes with Chi Chi....which sadly explain a lot😒

@@viktormadzov5286 I think DBZA did a good take on it, especially in the last few episodes, where ChiChi acknowledges that Goku is a fighter, and that is why she liked him (although would still prefer to have a happy little family with him). And also realized that Gohan, although Gohan values his time with his father, and feels he is obligated to do his best to protect people, Gohan isn't a fighter per se. Goku is the ultimate fighter because he is eager to go to the limit, and break through it. The challenge is what makes Goku tik. Gohan fights for reasons, and can hit his limit, and then needs somebody else to protect him until he can find his footing again. Goku lives for the challenge, sees it has his main motivation to become better. Gohan tries his best to rise against the challenge. ChiChi was able to see the difference in her son, while Goku confused Gohan's eagerness to be with his father, and help him, with his own fighting spirit that no challenge is too great, just great! It is understandable that with a man-child like Goku, this creates some frustration.

@@Tuning3434 Oh I 100% agree, and I absolutly adore DBZA take on Chi Chi. My issua is that this depth and subtext is sevearly lacking or compleatly missing ( depending on the show/movie/season) in the actual show itself. They never really do enough to flesh out ether Chi Chi or Gohans complicated relationship with fighting and Goku, leaving fans to read between the lines and (just like DBZA) find our own explanation

Goku knows how to fly, that technique is how he beat Piccolo at the last episode, but doesnt fully mastered it yet, so, he still uses the Flying nimbus for transportation

That, and at this point his Ki reserves are much lower so flying costs more to maintain while the nimbus costs nothing. I'm not 100% sure but I believe at this point the nimbus is faster than Goku's current flight speed.

Goku knows how to fly. He used it against piccolo to headbut him in the last episode. Most Z fighters probably know how to fly at this point. The only one I dont know is yamcha (tien and chaozu obviously can, krillin used it against piccolo, piccolo obviously can and goku used it as his trump card against piccolo, thats one reason he was sure to win, he knew he still had a teump card

Yeah. When Piccolo Jr launches his final blast at Goku you can see for a brief second a white outline of energy surrounding goku which is him flying out of the way since he could no longer stand. I believe the reason he uses nimbus is because it's faster at this point in the story and goku is not yet proficient at flying and moving well in the air. He doesn't really start to fly in combat until after his training with king kai. He did float when he arrived at Raditz location to see gohan inside the pod, however he got to the location on the nimbus and didn't use flight in the actual fight.

@@thecoffeemainiak5400 Yeah, that's basically it. He recently learned how to fly, but doesn't have enough practice to do much with it, since at this point it was considered an advanced technique. Even with the Kamehameha, as much as he learned how to perform it instantly, his beams initially were much smaller and weaker than the one he saw Roshi do back then.
