Ash how do you know that she knew her friend well enough not to tell? You don't know if she did or not. For all anyone knows this friend could have been a new friend or someone she has not known that long or long enough to know that they would do such things.

I think that's a discussion to be had privately between the trans individual and their possible love interest/sex partner. There's no reason to tell the whole party of people. It's not her place to out anyone and it's also dangerous. You don't know how people will react. The only people who have any right to know is someone you're dating or having sex with.

She was only at a party though. If she was dating someone or going to date someone I think the main reason to tell them ahead of time is because you don't want to develop feelings for someone and them have them freak out or act different upon finding out you're trans. This is why I'd just rather tell somebody from the start, personally then they can't say I "lied.". But in this situation she wouldn't need to tell anybody at a party. The "friend" telling everyone is bad because maybe she wasn't ready to tell people.

I believe it's also a safety thing because some individuals carry hostile views towards trans women I wouldn't consider it lying to keep sensitive information from someone, for example you wouldn't tell everyone you have home security
