Today we're featuring two excellent Martin guitars from two vastly different time periods, and a fantastic player from the UK, Clive Carroll! We'll have Jay tell you guys all about Clive and he'll be playing not only a beautiful 2018 Martin D-18 Authentic 1939 acoustic, but we pulled the 1931 Martin OM-28 out of the vault for him as well because it just felt like such a perfect time to do so!
For more information about the Clive or the guitars, please check out:

Clive Carroll is following in the footsteps of the great British finger stylists, like Davy Graham, John Renbourn and Bert Jansch. He's paving new roads and has acquired an incredible right hand technique that would make his hero's do a double take. It's obvious that he has an almost uncanny ability to extract long forgotten sounds that lurk in the depths of a fine guitar. He pulls them out and we stand in awe. Finally a British guitarist who's worthy of the torch, and one day the crown.

What a difference between the two guitars , I mean both sound great , but the old one just booms and chimes and resonates . This guy is a truly gifted player , I've never heard anything like it before , his chording and his right hand and his use of harmonics and bends and slides , just amazing , so original and unique.

By ear I chose a Martin D-28 because my '60s/'70s guitar heroes used that model. So when it was time to buy, because I'm getting older and a comfortable smaller body guitar, I bought a Martin OM-28. lol. Now I like not only prefer the feel of the smaller body, but the sound as well! This video confirmed I have done the right thing. Thank you.

The mature Martin stands out, mellowed and richer, both darker and brighter. I am certain the 2018 is a fine guitar and , enshallah, will mature into the fine tones exhibited by it ancestor.

It would have been nice to hear a modern OM vs. the vintage OM. A dreadnought and an OM sound very different. That said, I preferred the vintage OM. Of course, for $40,000, it should sound great.
