I loved listening to Alan Freeman. He was gifted with a voice and style that was unique but wonderful at the same time. :)

Instantly recognisable voice, even long after his death. Not the countdown music that we remember though!

'Sugar Sugar' by The Archies spent eight weeks at No.1 in the UK.

That's right, music was music in those days.

@@imswitchedon Indeed. This chart had nearly everything: American rock, British folk, progressive, bubblegum, reggae, big ballads, The Beatles, Elvis, country & western, and a good helping of Motown. I heard that Blue Mink's 'Melting Pot' is now banned because of its offensive lyrics. Fair enough, but how ironic that it advocated an ideal world which would be inhabited by 'coffee-coloured people'. If I remember rightly, Alan emphasised the word 'Mink' in the countdown because earlier he had called the group 'Blue Milk' by mistake!

@@martinlee5604 You have a good memory, I just checked and your right. Too much is being banned these days, it`s really annoying me, even the famous dog from The Dam Busters has had his name changed to Digger.

Alan wore neither a spindle on anything at all, or a body belt! Let me tell you!!!
