He came up to our youth club in the late 60s to open a new sports hall. He saw we had old equipment that was going to be used in a brand new sports hall. Without no one knowing two days later a huge truck with lots of sports equipment was delivered and paid by him. Also on the truck was records / tape recorders and other musical equipment. He did this because he saw we had no funds to buy it ourselves. That shows he was a great man.

One of my real radio heroes, along with Wogan, Jimmy Young, Ray Moore, Tony B and Ken B (of course), Kenny Everett, Emperor Rosko, Johnnie Walker, Steve Wright, Tony Prince and maybe one or two others... Radio has changed forever and not for the better.

Miss the bloke like mad. His enthusiasm pulled you along, when I was too young to understand the complexities of the music he played on the Sunday Rock Show I would listen and enjoy it because of him. There was a great documentary on Radio 2 in the 90's which was built around a long interview with him. Wonderful listening, I'd love to hear it again. Pick Of The Pops doesn't sound right without him. They should get someone doing an impression of him to present it. Alright? Stay bright! Not Arf!!

Some factual errors in these reports: 1. Alan Freeman was never anything to do with offshore pirate radio. He worked for the BBC and Radio Luxembourg. 2. Alan Freeman did not launch Radio 1.He was around for years before that and had little or nothing to do with the launch.

There's something seriously wrong with Tony Blackburn's maths. Fluff's final Pick Of The Pops was in 2000, when Dale Winton took over. He was 72 or 73 then, not 65. Then again, he isn't fit to lace Fluff's boots.
