Quick flight down to beautiful North Georgia to pick my sister up so she can come hang out with us for a few days. Jaime slept in on this flight so I took the time to explain tip tank Twin Cessna Fuel systems in detail as I've been asked many times by some of ya'll. Hope it wasn't too boring!! Next video will be the return flight with my sister. P.S. she's not a good flyer. :)

Kevin, I have been watching your page now for a couple of years. I will be turning 85 in a month from now but airplanes are still my first love. I was raised on a farm in western Oklahoma 11 miles south of Gotebo Oklahoma, Dad had a 1938 Taylorcraft. WW2 had just started and we could not get much gasolene for the old pickup truck. My Mom was a licenced pilot also. about 1942. I remember Dad filling the Taylorcraft with Tractor Gasolene and I would ride to Hobart Oklahoma about 25 miles away in the old taylorcraft to get groceries with Mom. We flew the Taylorcraft to save the tires on the old truck because you could get no tires during the war. about the end of WW2 Okla.A&M (now OSU) President rounded up a bunch of farmers (Dad being one) and they organized the National Flying Farmers of america My Dad being elected the first Treasure. At the end of WW2 Dad moved to hemphill county Texas and worked with Hemphill County and started the Hemphill county airport with dad being manager. He bought 3 aeronca champs to train WW2 vets on there GI bill and he also bought a Stinson SR-9 Gullwing war surplus. He paid 500$ for it. What brought me to this story was your new paint job which reminded of this old Stenson which was painted solid black with those big old gull wings being Red with Black trim on leading edges. All the valve cover humps on that 9 cylinder engine were red also and the wheel pants were gorgeous.They said it had 3 or 4 coats of hand rubbed lacquer that looked 1/2 " thick. that reminded me of your new paint job which is so beautiful. I was only 11 or 12 years of age and mom and dad both did charter work with that old bird. If there was a empty seat left over I was in it. I rode many a mile with my Mom sometimes Dad flying cattle Ranchers from Panhandle of Texas to Chicago, Kansas City , and Fort Worth to cattle sales. We didn't fly nearly as fast as you can in your 310 cessna. but I loved every mile behind that old vibrating 9 cylinder radial. My job even though I was only 11 or 12 years old was to check and fill the oil. That old engine would use about 1/2 to 1 1/ 2 qts of 90 weight oil every hour. guess what the youngest member of this operation had to do after each flight???? I had to wipe that Black painted belly completely where all that oil collected. Later Dad sold the Stenson and bought a yellow Staggerwing beach with a 450 pratt and whitney which would cruse at about 190 and guess who had to wipe down the belly???? Me But I told everyone that beautiful yellow biplane was mine Hehehe. Hope I did not Bore you with childhood on the farm and living on the airport later, You know how us old Farts are. Even so I will tell you one thing! once you have been around airplanes, they are in your Blood and you can never get it out. Even when I went into US Navy I wanted to Fly But I was Colorblind and never got to fulfill my dream of flying in the Navy. But I did get to serve on the USS Boxer CV-21 Essex Class carrier and I could go to my secret spot and watch the flight operations with all the catapult launches and the retreavels. Now here I am with my wings clipped by this corona -19 virus Taking up your time with war stories. Please forgive me if this was too boring.

Ohhh man that sound never gets old! The distinct, deep growl of a twin Cessna as both engines come up to the take off power setting instantly brings me in time a few years! Crazy how a simple sound like that can bring back such great memories. I was a flight Paramedic for 13 years starting my career in a cramped 414, and eventually graduating to two 421C Golden Eagles. Amazing aircraft that were built like a brick house! 5,762 missions flown, 4 emergency landings, countless lives saved.. Doesn’t get any better.

Beautiful 310. I flew 310 freighters in the late '70's. They were rough old airplanes with plenty of rash from prop ice and other stuff that happens in the commercial freight operation. Single pilot at night hauling mostly bank mail. I have some scary looking pics of mixed rime built forward on the tip tanks. Nice to see yours is a pampered pet. The 310 helped me to a long career in flying.

Kevin, please heed this advice from a 340 pilot. as soon as the wheels come up, the right index & middle fingers go straight to the prop controls until you bring the power back to climb power. in the event of a low & slow engine failure, prop needs to be the absolute first and immediate reaction to save from a rollover. this is my process, and i've crashed a couple times in the sim when it catches me by surprise. when my wheels come up my entire focus is just waiting for an engine to blow. absolutely love the videos man, and thanks to you and Jaime for all you do as an ATC keeping us safe!
@quinnjim
@quinnjim 4 жыл бұрын
That's really bad advise. Do nothing quickly. That just increases the chances that you will pull the wrong lever. Just be ready for an engine failure and have your steps memorized so that you can methodically deal with the problem. The first step is never to feather the prop.
@WillBorgers
@WillBorgers 4 жыл бұрын
@@quinnjim could be in other planes. that's how simcom has taught me for years, and it's the only way i've seen to rescue an engine out near MCA and 200' AGL in a twin cessna. even if you do pull the wrong prop, you then go to no thrust and are landing straight ahead instead of the rollover. in the twin cessnas we dont have time to do "nothing quickly" before blue line

Brother, these videos you make, regardless of traveling or just a quick pick up. I love it. There's something oddly satisfying about watching people flying planes, which ironically makes me wanna get my Pilots license a lot more. My pops was a pilot in the AirForce back in the 60's- (I wanna say) 80's? He told me he did 20 years, and was also a pilot. He flew in Vietnam War, and brought home a lot of cool war stuff. Course Im only 20 and I wasn't around when that happened but I would have loved to see my pops in his youth. Anyway Love your vids. Keep it up!

I love it when you fly over the rivers Kevin. I worked as Captain on one of those boats you see down there for about 40 years. On this one you looked to be just west of Louisville over what might be Wolf Creek bend or possibly Rock Haven bend. That stretch of river has the most bends of the whole river in it. We call that stretch the wiggles. My icon picture over to the left here is of my vessel. The M/V Daniel P. Mecklenborg. I retired just this January. I now lead a life of leisure. Thought maybe you’d buzz Tellico Village on your way back north since you were so close. Nice to meet another family member. Safe travels.

Very much so Jon! In my case, the VGs really change the flare/touchdown on a 310 and you have to re-learn it all. I have it much better now. This was several flights ago. I have to slow down much more than before. :)

Hi sir. I just want to say I’m a big fan of your channel. Your plane looks awesome! I’m not a pilot. I was just on KZbin one day and saw one of your videos. Really liked this video. My wife and her family are from Tifton GA. As my wife would say “Go Bulldogs!”. Lol. We live in Plainfield, IL.

Glad you enjoyed it Jeff! It's always great to be in Georgia...even if it's only 30 minutes as in this case. I'll try to post it real time on Instagram hopefully the next time I'm in the area. :)
