In video 480 (kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5aqoGusrcqsnK8) I explained and showed a new bypass method for the 178. My conclusion about the reason why that method worked was not correct and also my statement that the 178 (in contrast to the 175) cannot be bypassed with a thin decoder knife. Watch here the correction and addition as an update about this topic.

Wow that last bit about finding the right number in order to fit a bypass tool was a breakthrough moment for me, thanks!!!

Removing the outer cover on the 178 to see what's going on would be interesting I have never seen a video of this on that model #...... Great video & very well explained....

Would like to do that but don't have the right tools - I don't wanna make a massacre like on the 175.

thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I had several of these locks at the schools I work at that nobody knew the combo for. made a pick from a PC I/O shield, followed your method, got the code, unlocked it and changed the code so they can be used again.

Great video Pott314 I feel that we have all come on a journey of discovery and learnt a lot :-) do you think that the screwdriver could have pushed back the plate somehow? Also, can you feel the flat spot at the top using the decoder so that you can tell the right number? (I know you can feel the flat spot the other side to decode it, it you know what I mean!)
@Potti3147 жыл бұрын
Thank you my friend. Just thought that I need to correct the info as I now know better. I can feel the flat area only when accessing the wheel from the right.

So I’ve been thinking about this for a while - especially with the 175 and 176. Do you think it would be possible, if you first bypassed the lock to get the shackle out of the way, that could you get enough feedback from the code changing tool (or anything else you might stick in there) to decode the lock? You would probably need to start with the wheel closest to the hole you are working in. Thanks.

My company uses these locks outside - is there a recommended lubricant or treatment ?? I've got one that stopped working after 6 weeks so I thought someone changed the combination but after much persistence (about 2 hours) I picked it, decoded it and turns out the original combination now works again. Lock still looks new. Any suggestions?

I wish this was one of those master locks I could open with another Master Lock. I'm probably going to have to go to the angle grinder route since I don't have lock picking tools.

bypassing isent the same as destroying a lock , like you just did. if your going to destroy it you might as well bring a bolt cutter
