I can’t say enough about how good Crutchfield is. From their product selection to excellent website to awesome people working there. The only negative I’ve ever had is the price is not always the lowest. You can always wait for a sale but buying elsewhere may not be factory authorized.

Would love to see a kinda expanded version of this of hooking up multiple amps to run a system. Like a mono amp for a sub and then a separate 4 channel combo instead of just doing a 5 channel that has a mono out for a sub. Other then that I love the videos and I learn a lot every time!

This is a very clear and informative guide, especially for folks just entering or re-entering the world of car stereo. I would also add that for those of us not really experienced and skilled at doing installs, you will need to budget an additional 25-33% for installation costs for a simple installation. For more complicated installations that might involve fabrication or sophixticated tuning, installation costs will become more of your total costs, and depending on the complexity and time involved, the costs can go up logarithmically. Be realistic in your audio aspirations.

I'm glad I picked the Sony XM GS4 for my Sony Mobile ES speakers. The 100 dB S/N ratio, %0.05 THD, class AB topology, and high-quality Japanese capacitors and transistors are very attractive specs. The awesome sparkling crisp sound quality is the proof that's in the pudding and puts a big smile on my face. I'm considering a Crescendo Symphony amp for a Fi Neo 3.5 12 inch sub with stage 3 cooling inductance mounted in a sealed box so I can get powerful yet clean bass to fully complement the system.

Crutchfield is a great resource for anyone who is lacking knowledge on anything they sell. I shopped there in the 90's and use them for other people's installs. I tell the 'customer' to call Crutchfield and order their stuff. The sales team is great, they get all they need for their specific vehicle and I don't have to try and explain it all myself. Plus, Crutchfield has a great return policy and don't rape you in shipping to AK like some merchants do. As for amplifier selection, I love built in everything. No need to install a bunch of additional boxes, wire runs, noise possibility, additional level matching...it goes on and on. The industry has come a long way since the 90's. I still prefer the sound quality of class AB for all speakers over class D. I had Diamond Audio D7 amps for a while....nothing has been the same. You did a very good job on this video. Hit all the key points and made a very good point you don't need more than 500 watts for the subs in most cases.

I must say I really enjoy your videos. Crutchfield may be great for customers in the US but not for me and other living in Europe. You are suggesting amplifiers with an built in DSP. How do you configure two or more amplifiers with DSP in them? Can you connect them together and tune just one DSP for all amps? I think it seems to be better to have just one DSP connected to the rest of your amplifiers.

@@bigk7788 hey boss don't go at it as I have to buy it all at once. For example I have a 2018 vehicle with a premium sound system with 9 speakers. One rear door speaker is out. I've ordered some focal speakers to replace both. I'm also going to add some sound deadening. Next stage will be front speakers which are components and more sound deadening. Then will be the dash and replace the factory 8" sub. There's nothing wrong with building ur system up in stages. Yeah it would be great to do it all at once but it's not a requirement.

Slightly off topic question: I was in car audio in the early 90's when all the power classes were based on 4 ohm amplifier power and all speaker voice coils were 4 ohms so 1 ohm or lower capable amps and dual voice coils was a big advantage. Why are almost all subs still dual voice coil and what is the advantage of running high current versus standardized 4 ohm voice coils in the modern era?

You’d want a 4 channel amp If just doing 4 door speakers If u want to add a sub also you’d want to get a 5 channel But have to look at are the door speakers stock or aftermarket If stock u need to find what rms is which is normally very very low like 50 watts rms per speaker If aftermarket it will say on listing/ box like 150 watts rms etc so if speakers say 150 watts max rms you’d want to find a 4 channel amp that provides right around that area so you’d be looking for a 4 channel amp that says 150 watts rms x4 The x4 would mean u have 4 speakers so each speaker is getting 150 watts in which it’s rated for’ Never go higher than what speaker recommends for max rms you’ll blow the speakers n a heart beat Hope that helps some Always look at rms not the “total peak power” that’s just advertisement bs always match rms of speakers and amp Don’t get some off brand buy once cry once’ promise you’ll be happier even if u have to wait to save up’ Tried and true u can’t go wrong With Alpine /kenwood /kicker pioneer is okay but personal I would go with alpine or kicker just my opinion always had great luck with them

I know when wiring the amp itself bigger wire carries more and sounds a lil clearer but is the same said for wiring the subs in the box? Or does it not matter

Whether it’s true or not you shouldn’t cheap out on any part of the system . You won’t know if it’s the wires or the actual sub if there a problem so h even make a problem in the first

I know Mark has touched on this in other videos but I thought this would be a good add to this one: Don't Be FOOLED by large Wattage Ratings. Sadly a Great Many MFGs outright lie. If your looking at lesser known brands always look at the Fuses and do the math! Example: I just saw an amp listed on Mercari made by CRUNCH that's rated for 1500 WATTS!! But it only comes with a single 40 Amp Fuse. So at best most alternators run at 14.4 Volts. So 40 X 14.4 = 576 Watts of power. Amps cannot produce electricity, they only convert the raw electricity they get from the battery/alternator into musical energy. A typical Class D amp runs around 80% Efficient. Meaning if it's maximum wattage input it can handle is 576 then the most output wattage it can produce is 460.8 Watts. So in truth this 1500 Watt amplifier is really a 460 Watt amplifier. They might have achieved 1500 Watts measured in the lab for 1.2 seconds before it burst into 🔥 🔥 🔥!!! Always Do the Math. If an amp has multiple fuses you simply add them together to get the total Amps of input the amplifier can handle. Here's a great channel for seeing car audio amps Bench Tested: kzbin.info Williston Audio.

Speaking on efficiency, I thought that mono amps pull more than their advertised wattage to compensate for wattage lost to their efficiency rating. For example: provided a 1500w rms amp has the proper fuse inline, it would pull closer to 1600-1700 watts to achieve the advertised 1500 watts. Is that not correct?

guys i really need help!! Im upgrading to rockford dual 12 P3's rated at 1200 rms at 1 ohm. I was going to get the skar 1500 watt mono amp for $180. Is this a good amp for the subs and will i need an extra smaller batter/capacitor and 1/0 gauge wire?? completely stock radio on a 2014 car

I have the skar 1500w mono amp, it's extremely good value for its performance. If your peak power is going above 1500w and you have the power wire running more than a few feet then it couldn't hurt to upgrade to 1/0 wire, but for that amp you would also have to purchase some 1/0 to 4 gauge wire reducers because the amp has 4 gauge inputs. Idk about an extra battery, but I did have to replace my stock alternator with a high output one (stock one died on me, took my battery down with it). You will probably have to do the same unless your stock alternator puts out ~200-250 amps. A 2 farad capacitor would help as well. I also opted for a high performance optima yellow top battery to replace my old one.

Thanks man. I also have the option to get a rockford 1000w prime which I read is extremely efficient and would make it so I wouldn’t have to upgrade my electrical or get another battery. Is this even true do you think? The amp is $400 but a whole 500w less power. Do you think the 500w would be noticeable sound wise or would it’s efficiency compensate for the less power with better sound quality
