In this video I list all the factors that go into picking a load off your company load board in RV Transport. Since there’s many different factors involved with picking a load, it’s important to be able to find the most profitable load that works for you. Everyone’s opinion is different and I share my own opinion on what the best load is for me based on my preferences. Hopefully this can be a help to you deciding what load you want and what loads you want to stay away from if possible.

Daniel, my biggest fear entering the business is that I will have a load from say Goshen to California but once I drop it there might not be a load from California going back to goshen. That's a lot of miles to deadhead from the west coast to indiana. That would not be profitable.

Thank you for your videos. Really enjoying them. In that last example, the "old" load is paying roughly $44 more but weighs around 1000lb more. I'm just wondering if there might be loss of fuel economy with nearly a half ton more weight? Seems like the shorter/lighter one might be more economical? Just curious.

Hello, Pig towlet, Alex, recommend you. I understand your Principle standard. My truck is Diesel 6.7 @ 12 mpg. It takes me 90gal tanks, I guess, I wonder who does his factoring @ $500.00 a trailer, that 4 trips, a week, that $2000.00 for the week, that some hard-driving. It can be done. you got, your work cut out for you, not counting the Hitch & stabilizer. Man hours took them on/off each time, you pick up,& delivery. WOW, what a work out. I am basing this off the 13,000# trailer. Good work HighMileageHelper.

So when you go 870 miles out of your way to make 1100 bucks...and youve spent 250 in fuel and factor in another 50 in wear and tear on your truck....youve grossed 800 bucks roughly. Your 870 miles from where you started...what do you do for a return load in this business?

Awesome videos, great and informative content... You've answered numerous questions about RV delivery that I didn't even know I had. I'm coming up for orientation on the 30th and hope to say "Hi"" to you around the yard. Two quick questions, can't promise they're the last. What's the deal with DOT inspection on a pickup? Isn't that just your annual sticker? Do you have any advice for driving California loads? I know they hate smokers and firearms, but how does the state play into RV delivery?
@HighMileageHelper
@HighMileageHelper 4 жыл бұрын
Michael Forshey Hey Michael! Thanks for reaching out! So happy to be a help! And that’d be great to meet up! Since we are commercial vehicles we fall underneath all DOT regulations with a few exemptions for our industry. We get an annual DOT inspection for wherever we choose as well as go through all open weigh stations and can be pulled over for random DOT inspections out on the highway. We have to maintain our logbook like all other truckers do on the road. My advise for California driving is, you better have every single thing in order with your truck and all paperwork before entering. You may never get stopped, nothing might happen. But from stories of real people that have had minor problems and infractions, they love to pounce on folks without mercy. I’m not trying to be dramatic, it’s just what I’ve personally talked through with, with other drivers who’ve had the trouble. I avoid it entirely these days. Just not worth it to me, but everyone has their own boundaries. That’s the one state to triple check everything is in order. Besides at DOT stations in CA, I haven’t heard of lots of people getting pulled over(still probably happens though I’m sure). I hope that answered your questions. And keep the questions coming, I’ll give you everything I got!😂

@@HighMileageHelper In California , pick up trucks do not need to go through the way station. There is a legal definition of a pickup truck. Something like 11500 GVW and a pick up style bed.. also 8000 unladen weight. I just found your channel. Very informative and intelligent videos. Thank you!
@rpruneau68
@rpruneau68 5 ай бұрын
Dangerous advice since, as a minimum, most States require that commercial trucks which have a GVWR of 10K or more stop at open weigh stations. I would certainly verify prior to blowing by given the repercussions for doing so while mandated to stop. @@tinybigbus1873

Weight of trailer has very little effect on mpg as compared to aerodynamic drag. Unless you are pulling into the mountains. I get about the same mileage with an 25' 7000lbs TT as I do with 40' 16000lbs FW.

I would have picked the 22' and 5900lbs, I think its more savings that the 26' 7000lbs! @1100lbs that's less weight and I believe a better fuel savings and wear and tear on other components of the truck. My opinion is that it outweigh the $44 earning. I live in Brockton, MA so what would you do to get the backhaul to Goshen or Topeka? Deadhead?

Daniel.. First off .. Happy New Year.. I’ve been thinking hard about doin this .. RV’s transporting..my entire adult life has been spent on the road as an over the road truck driver, so I’m familiar with the road.. one quest I have is can you see loads coming out of where your choosing to go.?? That was alway a factor in accepting loads when I was driving..more freight comes off the east coast than the west!! Yes the runs to the west are more miles, but you also might sit there for two or three days during certain times of the year..2nd question My application is with Wave RV express.. what can you tell me about them?? Good, bad, indifferent?? Last I have to purchase a truck since my 2014 half ton won’t do!! I’m seriously considering and have spec’d out a new 2021 Chevy 3500 dually for this.. yes it’s a truck payment but I’m looking at warranty issues as well with that.. truck has a 100,000 mi warranty or 5 yrs.. used equip warranty is usually 30 feet or 30 days.. or good till you hit the street, then no warranty at all.. leased a 2007 Kenworth tractor with only 157,000 miles on it for a trucking company in 2016.. truck was fine for about a month then the turbo blew up.. leasing company wouldn’t pay for repairs..($10,000 included labor) truck was over 5 yrs old no warranty!! So while the payment may be higher I think in the long run it’s beneficial!! Any information you can provide is greatly appreciated Phil philktn@outllook.com.

Daniel, thank you for another great informative video. I’m going to be doing my first fuel filter(s) change this week on my 2019 Ram 2500. It looks pretty straight forward but do you have any tips or tricks that I should be aware of?
@HighMileageHelper
@HighMileageHelper 4 жыл бұрын
America Unboxed The stock fuel filter on the driver side of the engine has a plastic cap (if it’s still the same as my 12 and a buddy’s 14). This cap is incredibly easy to round off even if you have the correct socket which people argue over it being 1 1/8inch and 28mm🤷‍♂️. My suggestion is to buy a metal cap replacement before you ever start having problems. I rounded mine off and had to use a chisel to break it open. It was a disaster! And I believe those metal caps have a similar socket size. That is what I did before replacing it altogether with an aftermarket pump that has simple spin on filters(air dog 2 4g). That’s the only headache I’ve come across with those filters. I hope it helps! God bless! Happy Father’s Day if you are one!

@@HighMileageHelper That's great information, thank you.. If it's plastic, I'll definitely change it out.
@HighMileageHelper
@HighMileageHelper 4 жыл бұрын
America Unboxed aftermarket folks sell thick and solid aluminum caps for $30ish on amazon that should last forever. Unfortunately, a similar problem can happen to the upper and lower valve cover assembly on the 6.7 where the infamous CCV filter sits in between. The bolts can get stripped out holding the upper to the lower which can cause the plastic to break off completely after enough time (since both upper and lower are plastic, on top of an extremely hot engine, of course plastic will start cracking after enough heat exchange cycles, genius haha). Mine started doing this after 400k miles. So you have some time lol but it couldn’t deal so excess oil fumes would leak out and slowly drip down the engine on all sides. It was an absolute nightmare haha I replaced both upper and lower for $300 on eBay and no more oil leak. I still wouldn’t trade these 6.7’a for anything. I’m at 553k miles now! Sorry if that was overkill, you probably won’t have to deal with that for years!

America Unboxed yes I just got a used plastic cover because I’m too cheap to buy the $600+ aftermarket aluminum covers that are a single piece that bolt straight to the top of the engine. I was hoping to find someone out there who I could get a deal through as a KZbinr and hopefully get them to offer a discount code to offer all of you but no one responded to me haha I know with time and miles I can’t be the only one who has had this problem. Some day I will buy a nice one when this one dies. I just hope I hit a million miles before that to get my moneys worth haha and I appreciate it man! I’m happy to help and share anything I can. You will need “unladened” insurance that covers you when you are empty. The company you run for will pay the insurance for while you are loaded with their trailer you are transporting. Unladened Insurance is between $200-$500(what I hear) depending on your age, driver record and how much you are insuring your truck for and I’m sure more miscellaneous random things.

This video was made before rates were increased by the .40 cent incentive. This was not a fuel surcharge increase, it was a industry wide incentive put out to help increase the demand of drivers. Confusing these two things could be dangerous. I just wanted to clarify that my friend! Regardless of fuel prices this incentive could be taken away from us at anytime. We are not guaranteed anything (even if they promise something) they could always come back and say so sorry, it’s out of our hands, oh well. And a lot of people would be absolutely caught off guard. There’s always exceptions and depending on how desperate the company is for drivers, they may bend their “rules” when it’s convenient. Asking the companies directly will be your safest bet. I wouldn’t even trust their websites. They may say, “does it run well and look clean, yes? Then come aboard!”

Have your worked out your MPG compared to the amount of weight you're towing. Would towing the extra weight be worth while getting .05/mile extra is what I'm asking?

That was exactly my question, I would have picked the 5900lbs trailer because its less weight translating to better fuel MPG. Especially going up I-81 to I84 in Scranton.

depends a flatbed on my 3500 will put me at 13mpg. Any bumper pull rv has always put me in the 12s to 13s. A heavy 5th wheel pushing 15k had me sitting in the 11s possibly less. Rams are funny about the fuel. A transition from say a "kite" 8k lbs 5th wheel to a "boat anchor" 15k lbs 5th wheel wont hurt me but 1-2 mpg. Adds up, but not terrible in the end. Just goes on the rate from there.

Michael King Hey Michael! Thanks for reaching out! Depending on our budgets and obligations we are all at different stages in life. I have a mortgage, student loans, truck payment, commercial insurance ect. I have a budget and live within it. I’ve had multiple breakdowns and yet God has still provided exactly what I needed. I wish you the best and hope you too can find the right rate that will work for your financial situation. God bless man!
