Picking my Cane Corso puppy. Puppies playing with each other and momma before going to new home.

In this video you will meet the Cane Corso puppies from two litters born just 1 week apart. We have to choose between 2 females, a formentina color female or her fawn sister. Enjoy watching the puppies play together and our choice of the litter playing with her momma one last time before we leave.

Both are beautiful! I loved the Formentino...she was mellow and that is a really good trait I feel. I am 62 so more mellow is better for me lol. I love your pick...So darling

Thank you, and yes you’re right. I think it’s important to pick the traits that go with your personal lifestyle. It’s very important and usually people unknowingly focus more on the colors they like instead of the dogs temperament.

Hey, what airline did you travel with?. I will be picking up a 10 week old corso and was wondering if theres a weigh limit for them.

There is a weight limit, and size as well. At 10 weeks old with a Corso you may be cutting it close, but as long as it fits in the pet carrier under your seat you should be fine. Check with your airline for their specific requirements because it varies per airline. I went with Spirit because it’s always gone smoothly with them, they do not seem to care much they barely check anything, as long as it fits you’re good. The last time they didn’t even check health papers, which isn’t good but goes to show how easy it is with them. Also, they’re cheaper, although not the most comfortable ride. Congrats on the puppy, you’ll love the experience if you train him/her right!

I know some will reply "It doesn't matter, and there are more important things," but I tell ya, the length of the docked tail matters to me. It's actually not all aesthetic, and I could get into that; but I've been trying to get answers on this issue from a variety of sources. Look at the difference in length of the docked tails of some of those pups. I way, way prefer a shorter dock. The breed standard states it should be docked at the 4th vertebra if I'm not mistaken; yet it varies so much! I know from experience with another docked breed that breeders will tell you that it is actually difficult to get a tail dock length precise bc they are so young; but man, I've been trying to find a breeder that can tell me that I will wind up with a Corso pup with a tail that is not on the longer end of the spectrum. Thoughts?

I agree with you actually. My male has the shortest dock of them all and I too prefer that look to be honest, but if you plan on showing the dog it should be docked as you said, at about the 4th vertebra. My youngest female has a longer dock for that reason, she will probably be shown in competition so her dock was done longer by her breeder. If you have that preference though I’m sure you can ask your breeder if they can dock your puppy shorter, they may be able to assist with that. Only issue may be, most times the tail is docked when they are very young, like within the first 2 days of birth. So the pup you will be getting may not be known until much later after the pups have been docked already. Trust me though, when you have your puppy (if you’re just getting it as a pet) you’ll be so enamored with your fur baby that the length of the dock will be quickly forgotten.

@@diamondgritcanecorso Thanks for your thoughts. You are correct: Since the pups get docked at just a few days, it's a real impediment to being able to match up a pup with a buyer at that point. Congratulations on your pup and your other Corso. I'm glad I found your videos and I'll keep watching. Yeah, I think really what we see out there could be described as "tail blindness." People just don't seem to pay attention to it. But with how very waggy this breed is (same with Boerboels) that waggy tail does not make for the best visual deterrent against the bad guys, and it just also looks very unpleasing to me especially when you see a long, thin rapidly wagging tail. By the way, I see some of Mr. Mattson's dogs in these Corsos. I've contacted him, but a visit to his place has not worked out. I've wondered if maybe he is not very active in breeding anymore.

@@pauloshaanker5456 Very good observation, there are some dogs from Mr. Matson there. He still has dogs, but from my understanding he’s not a young buck anymore so he has been slowing down some, purposely. It’s just what I’ve heard from people that know him more, which is understandable if true. He might just be the longest breeder from America to still be doing it if I’m not mistaken. This female is out of Altiere Cane Corso. Sire is an American male from very old lines (Alcor), the mom is from Russia out of one of my favorite European breeders.
