For all the ones wondering which color Glide threads are in “Angela’s Favorites” bundle, here they are: WARM GREY (tan) CORK (golden brownish tan) (Wd sub nicely for a golden thread.) GERMAN GRANT (dark mushroom) SHADOW (dark grey w/a slightly brownish tint) YELLOW WHISPER ( lt. yellow w/slightly golden tint) (versus CHIFFON (which is a pale icy lemon) ) PALE MIST (lt. mint green) COTTON CANDY (very pretty lt. Pink) (Thread colors look a little different in person than on the screen.) 🌷

ooohhhhhh okayyyy. i get it now. i cant even tell theres blue thread really. so its what ever color VALUE that works not so much matching the top. wow. im appreciative of this lesson. i usually go for what is in the quilt top that wont kill the backing or the top. but many opposing colors blend in.

Once and a while can you show what the backs of the quilts look like please. Like the Tula quilt with the black and white thread. What do you use on the bobbin?

That was such a good presentation! It was amazing to see the threads laid out over the quilt and how the different colours blended in. I am encouraged to broaden my choices now! Never thought that green would be the choice on that first quilt but it looked great! I do wish you would give some equivalent colours in the Aurifil thread for those of us who like using cotton.

Great timing, really useful video! Thank you! I once used lavender on a multicoloured with white background which worked out super. I am getting ready to quilt a white, navy and gold/ochre quilt with a navy grunge back. Because of the contrasting colours, I will probably do a test block as I want to create secondary designs with texture. Any colour recommendations? It is a geometric design.

Hope someone can help. I know this is a month late question. I have a sit down longarm. I use glide threads. When i quilt moving the quilt towards myself...the glide thread fibers untwist. Pushing the quilt away the fibers twist tighter but that isnt noticeable. When they untwist the stiching takes on a different look. I use a 16 groz-beckert mr needle. Is this issue just a normal part of quilting? Is it a glide thread thing? Is it a needle brand issue?

Can I mix different weights of thread on the front and back of a quilt? (Seems I heard you say yes in the Live Chat, but not sure. ) Example.....40 wt on the front and 50 wt or higher on the back? Thanks!
@marjoriedevine90513 жыл бұрын
I'm just checking : Are you looking to do machine quilting with the different threads? Not trying to answer, but when I machine piece w/featherweight she is good. And the modern machine (not high end) got fussy enough to use same thread top and bottom. I could see where a heavier thread on top could really enhance.🧵
@karencovington99603 жыл бұрын
@@marjoriedevine9051 Hi. Thanks for writing back. I am looking to machine quilt with Glide on the top and SoFine one the bottom. Glide is 40 wt and SoFine is 50 wt. Both are polyester. I have had some issues using Glide on top and bottom…..it could be winding the slicker Glide on the bobbin.
@marjoriedevine90513 жыл бұрын
@@karencovington9960Hi. You are machine quilting with what? Some machines are fussy. Angela mentioned that the thread must be wound carefully on the bobbin, and the right way. What does she mean? I know when hand piercing you knot the end of the thread closest to the spool when cut this way the thread doesn't untwist. Angela said she prefers prewound bobbins something about snarls. I like the idea to practice on a sample rather than the final quilt to get the kinks out. Sample top bottom thread with needle size tension stitch length.
@karencovington99603 жыл бұрын
@@marjoriedevine9051 I am machine quilting on a Brother BQ3050. I always practice on a sample before I start on my quilt. Then sometimes I get tangles on the back when quilting. It could be the way I am moving the fabric…..and sometimes it works perfectly. But I think it could be winding the Glide onto the bobbin. I ordered some SoFine and will practice with it on the bobbin.
@marjoriedevine90513 жыл бұрын
@@karencovington9960 Based upon what Angela said, I would order some pre wound bobbins to test and sample the results. If you get tangled and such on the back it might be interesting to see if part of the problem is the bobbin and not your technique. IDK. I'm just learning along with the rest. My only real experience with different weights in top /bottom is from piecing. I was always taught threads should be similar in weight. These newer quilting machines may have that glitch worked out. I just don't like a mess on the back of my quilt when I'm done. It wouldn't be the first time I ended up using machine quilting for basting and ripped it all out after hand quilting😎
