Thanks so much, this was so helpful! ! I was curious to know if you have any tips on a study routine in your honours year?

Hello! My apologies, I had put off replying to this in the hopes of making a video on it, but life has been very hectic. I won't lie- here and there during honours my routine was very all over the place. I wasn't very good at boundaries, and sometimes I ended up working very late into the nights. I also would sometimes be conducting my experiment at odd hours online to meet participants' availability. I had the 'it's just one year' mindset, which you may or may not agree with. Sometimes you may just have to work a little harder than other times. Some weeks in honours are more intense than others, so you have to be a bit flexible. I recommend ALWAYS making a daily to do list, and a weekly one to keep on top of the bigger picture. Try to get as much work done as possible between Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, as if you had a full time job. If you need to do extra work on the weekend, it's not the end of the world, but please allow yourself time to enjoy non-honours related activities. Your brain deserves breaks. I always keep a piece of paper over my desk with the: 1. month 2. due date 3. assignment name, 4. grade weight % 5. word length This is just so I can keep track of everything and feel amazing when I cross something off.

5:00, exact same process with UNE, very annoying that you have to go looking for information that should be given to you upfront.

Hey Brooke! What are your thoughts on doing honours at Deakin (online)?
@psychologywithbrooke
@psychologywithbrooke Жыл бұрын
Hey! I have no experience with Deakin, so unfortunately I can't provide any thoughts on that university. I would suggest trying to find Deakin students (Facebook groups maybe?) and getting feedback from them. In regards to studying honours online, I really enjoyed studying online and found that suited me. I liked being able to focus and have my own space. I liked cutting down on travel time as well. Some people prefer studying face to face though, so that's definitely a personal preference :) Try to find out if the Deakin psychology department offers a good support network. Suss out if they are accessible communication wise. That's super important when studying online. You want to make sure the teaching staff are easy to contact (and that they reply!) so that you don't feel out of the loop or cut off when you need help. I hope that helps :)

@@arif8205 Hi! I just finished doing my honours at deakin part time online and loved it! It is an amazing cohort of lecturers that go above and beyond to support students. If you post questions in the discusssion pages or via email I found they were always very quick to respond. The lectures are recorded and broken down into chunks so that you can watch a section at a time and are sometimes interactive (whilst still being pre-recorded). Personally, I also found that studying online suited me as there was no wasted travel time and I could completely plan my weeks just around live zoom tutes and superviser thesis meetings.

Any tips with motivation to get the thesis written? Currently have 2.5 months to write and submit and it’s so daunting/overwhelming!!
@psychologywithbrooke
@psychologywithbrooke 2 жыл бұрын
Hey!! Here are some tips that helped me: 1. Mindset: This is momentary. Seriously. Before you know it honours will be over and you'll have all the time in the world to engage in your hobbies. This is a temporary task so accept you should push yourself now, and reap the rewards of that later. 2. Remember that it's SUPPOSED to be difficult. If it were easy then everyone would be writing a thesis. It would be very suspicious if it wasn't overwhelming so you're on the right track! If you frame it this way then potentially you can start to enjoy the challenge, rather than be put off by it 3. Break the thesis down into its subsections and stop looking at it as one giant piece. It will cohesively come together throughout the editing process. It helped me early on to create a draft with all the different headings + subheadings. I then put very rough drafts of information under each. This helped me visualise and sort through what should go where, providing building blocks for me to expand upon and refine. Also if you can then refer to example theses! 3.1 Create a checklist. Make a checklist of the different subsections and what information you should cover under each. Try to use the marking rubric and instructions as much as possible. This will help you track what you have/haven't done. 4. Pretend you're working as a researcher. Stop thinking like a student whose trying to beat a deadline. This helped me heaps. This is YOUR experiment. Own it. Be excited to write about it. Take ownership of it. Really try to stop thinking of it as an assignment. If any more come to mind I'll drop them below! I'll definitely make a video on this at some point :)
