I’m not quite sure what variant they have, but the Irish Air Corps have the Squirrel and they also have the Dauphin helicopters - for jets, they have the Fougha Majisters

Is there anything you ‘don’t’ fly? 😂 I love the sound of this helicopter. Beautiful purr to it. I’d love to fly in that. Visibility’s fantastic. Couldn’t see the avionics too well - anything you can share on that? The heli is my favourite ‘craft being that it’s so versatile, not least because of not being restricted by having to find a runway. That filling station was great! No queues and chilled! Was it purpose built by the owner of that heli? Appreciate the clear commentary and having the camera pan to get a better view of the cockpit, especially during flight.

Your videos and commentary are extremely informative and interesting. QUESTION - you fly both helicopters, piston and turbine fixed wing. How do you manage to learn so many checklists by heart, never seen you use a paper checklist... please keep the video coming... many thanks
@richardtyrer3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Honesty it's a matter of keeping current, and before I hop in a different aircraft I will spend some time refreshing through the flight manual the night before. Most the aircraft I have flown in on these videos I fly on a regular basis. I am flying a new type at the moment, and I'm sticking quite firmly to the checklist until I have developed a good flow

0:21 You did what to the tail rotor? I never knew they were THAT flexible.

It's just a check to see if the internal structure is damaged. You listen for a crunching sound, but yes it looks scary from that angle!!!

@@richardtyrer That's cool! Your job seems so awesome flying all of these various aircraft. I've always wondered, do you have to get a type rating for every single one you fly?
@nemsisdotcom2 жыл бұрын
You get to play with some amazing aircraft - Is it true a commercial pilot can only be rated in a single aircraft unless a ferry pilot? More IFR, Flight planning (flight aware) and love those international adventures! Keep em coming!!!
@marcobarbado5478 Жыл бұрын
No, you can be rated in more than one plane and on comercial operations you can just use 2 type ratings or rating’s but in part NCC not the case . You can have how many ratings you want

Hi Richard a quick question for you. I’m looking at purchasing/leasing a helicopter next year post passing my PPL(H) I’ve been flying fixed wing for a longtime. I’m now flying my real passion and love the Airbus/Eurocopter AS335NP. What are your thoughts and advice for me, by then I’ll be a 100+ hour helicopter pilot, good buy or bad buy? Really appreciate your posts. John
@richardtyrer3 жыл бұрын
Hi John, Hope the helicopter training is going well!? My advice would be to get a single engine turbine rating and build some hours on that. Either a R66, B505 or AS350 tend to be the most common ones (I would personally go for the AS350). The 355 is a great machine but for initial PPL flying it doesn't really give any initial advantages. Also you would probably have some insurance issues on a twin requiring you to have a safety pilot (even though you have fixed wing experience they don't really take it into account). After another 100 hours or so experience I would then look at a twin if you fancied going down that route. It is quite difficult to get hold of a new AS355 (either an N or an NP) to buy as they are no longer in production, and the ones out there are working quite hard and owners don't want to sell. If you want to chat more, message me on instagram @richardtyrer and we can always swap details and have a phone call!
