Yay, the neighbor's fence is intact! I agree about the hydraulics being an extension of their body. The same is true for a skilled operator of a backhoe, track hoe, excavator or any type of heavy equipment. Take care. Bill

Matt, you might look into going to a junk yard and picking up an old hood. Put that on the ground leading the log and you can alleviate some of the furrows the logs dig as you're dragging them to the trailer. I bet you're loving that JCB, looks like off loading has become a breeze!

Just a tip, set parking brake and block your tires on your truck when winching like that. I was doing a hard pull and it actually snapped the parking pawl in the transmission. No fun. Even if you don't snap it you will weaken it by putting so much strain on it.

Matt long time subscriber and fan. The JCB you have is an excellent machine, I have hundreds of hours running that exact same machine. Just a couple of tips, don't double lift logs unless you can get them both against the mast. I've noticed a couple of times your forks are really starting to give and you need to start carefully inspecting them for cracks especially at the bends. I've seen a few break at the bends but most break about 12 to 18" from the bends. Not nagging at you by any means but you are trusting those forks with several thousand pounds of log above yourself and your equipment. Your log yard is looking amazing, can't wait to see those giants slabbed up.

So many trees that size wind up as chips. Just had a road widened very near me and they took down the mature oaks along the road. They were just chipping them all. Some people liberated some of the logs over the weekend but still so much waste. I talked to the tree guy who took some stuff down for me and it is cheaper for them to chip. Finding reliable people to get the logs when required is too much work for them.

I have a 76 year old Lister JP3 (cold Start) which is used every day for the whole property's electricity generation and it is about that capacity. We run it every day using the cleaned oil from a margarine factory as fuel. Slow speed Listers are just about run in at this age, and the variable compression makes them reliable starters in cold climates. Also have a JP4 but that is a fraction too big. Canada is a better source for old Listers than the USA. Loads of vids on KZbin.
