Really good explanation and demonstration. I especially found the comment at the end to get the feet right first in order for rest of body and shot to then be right also as very helpful. The need to split step frequently and always being in ready position is also fundamental.

Proper footwork at the kitchen is not putting one leg in front of the other on a short bounce. You'll never get back to a balanced ready position that way. A proper "crab" walk as you call it always has your outside foot moving in the direction of the ball. You're also taking your shoulders and turning them away from the net and the player across from you. Watch Cincola's videos on footwork, you'll see exactly what a professional coach and player does with his side steps.

Concerning the part where you are up at the kitchen and move wide to the right. Sounds like you are saying to hit the forehand volley off the right foot. Maybe I got that wrong. Please clarify. Thanks.
