I love it when my opponent side slaps their soft serve, so it will kick hard to the side 4:49 as I get to practice my ATP. With the angles involved in the ball kicking hard to the side near the NVZ and me running to intercept it, the ATP is the easier shot. The added benefit is they won't try that again. 🙂

@@pickleballpick-apart9787 Definitely not young anymore. Unless you have mobility issues I don’t see youth as an advantage. My opponent recently said “I can’t believe you got to that ball” I laughed and said “I’m pretty fast for an old man” My young partner said “You’re pretty fast for any man” The court is small. It’s not about speed as much as anticipation and staying focused on the ball until contact. Concerning serves and anticipation, watch good players play against others before your game. Players with several serves in their arsenal will give away the type of serve before their paddle contacts the ball.

I'm guessing the stacking / switching team was just learning those moves. Kudos to them to seriously try them and stick with it. I'll bet they've gotten much better at it since this game. Rory, very good job on the commentary. (I watched that last point four times. I think the Grey player foot-faulted to hit the "winner". But there was no Ref....)

I didn't notice that. Lots of foot gay are made that are never called.

It seems for most, Practicing happens only when you get to play. Everything is put to test on the Rec Court, I believe! 😮

At my level, I understand stacking and the benefits it can bring about. I mainly participate in open play, with many different partners of varying skill levels, where, most of the time, stacking would be as confusing as it appears to be here.

Lol this is absolutely hilarious. Kids: learn the basics and execute them properly over and over and over BEFORE you ever try and get fancy and trick things up. If you’re 3.5, don’t do hand signals and stack…. Lol if you can’t hit a basic return of serve DEEP 9 out of 10 times, you don’t pass go and move on to stacking and hand signs 😂 And I just noticed their grips! They have their pointer finger on the paddle face…..again, don’t get fancy if you don’t hold the paddle properly….

Thanks for watching and thanks for you comments. I totally agree with what I call, "the frying pan grip". It seems I'm seeing it more and more. I believe it is much, much inferior to the continental grip.

Is the serve by the older player, light blue shirt, near court, legal? The slow motion of his serve at 14:41 serve is almost shoulder level!

He tosses the ball up to near shoulder level but doesn't hit the ball until it drops below his waist. Tossing is legal on a volley serve. The 3 main requirements (below waist, upward motion & paddle face below wrist) only apply when paddle contacts the ball. If you play the video at 0.25 speed and stop it exactly at ball contact (May take several attempts), the serve is legal.

Thanks for the videos. I've enjoyed and learnt a lot form them. Would be fun for you to film one of you own games sometime and pick your own play apart!

The guy in black had an illegal serve. Down and upward arc, paddle face not higher than the wrist

I hate asking, but your channel has been such an informative tool since my wife and I started playing several months ago. I'm a military contractor, currently in Africa at a place called Air Base 101. At any rate, when I get home I may take in a few local, 50+ SoFlo single tournaments. Is there a chance you could sprinkle in a few single game reviews, so I could have an idea of what to look for in my novice game?

Thanks for asking. I don't play singles. I do play skinny singles occasionally. Singles really is a different game and I just don't know enough about it to comment on. I'm glad the videos are helping you and your wife. Thanks for watching.

Hmm. I've got to think they've practiced the stacking moves before this, but sheesh. I think they were both about evenly matched players. Prob should have just focused on calling the shots and staying where they were. I think stacking is best for when you have quite a better player on the team and you want that person in on the left to take more forehands.

It is quite comical when teams without the mobility or skill level tries to stack. As 3.5's , these players should use the opportunity to play both sides and develop their skills/strategic awareness prior to attempting stacking. As a newer player, trying to learn just one side really hinders development.
