As far as mistake number 2, the answer isn’t to hit out on the ball. The answer is to stop using the overhead when the ball isn’t over your head. The answer is to move your feet and find a forehand or two handed backhand swinging volley. Reserve the overhead for when the ball is over your head.

@douglasmurdoch72477 ай бұрын
@@folz17 clearly yes. Like I said, high level players go to the overhead when the ball is over their head, not in front of their face. When the ball is in front of your face, move and find a swinging volley.

I totally disagree with your first point, IF it plays out the way it does in your video. @1:19 you say the point is neutralized but if you notice at that point the ball is about 4 feet above the net. That is a perfect opportunity to put it away.

I generally agree with your first tip as dropping the ball when your opponent is way back gives them a free ticket to the NVZ. That is pickleball 101. You want to keep them back to keep the advantage. You're at the NVZ. They are way back. You have more options, angled shots, etc. Your shots are offensive while theirs are defensive. As you said, the drop is effective if your opponent is slow. It is also effective if your opponent is a true banger because you are returning a ball they cannot Bang and still keep it in. Dinks and resets are not part of a true banger's game. Your second tip is spot on and that is the most common mistake I see. The ball has a downward trajectory and hitting down on it, drives it into the net. In my opinion, punching it back is more consistent. The 3rd tip is key to any racquet sport. You need to be balanced, not falling back, when hitting the ball. The 4th tip about speed ups is good. Don't speed up cross court. A problem I have in a firefight, back and forth multiple times, is my aim. The objective is not just getting it back across the net, I need to make their return difficult by chicken-winging them, going for the middle, etc. It's totally my bad but I tend to get into a rapid fire, 5-6 volleys where I return it to them where they can easily send it right back to me. I need to work on that. Good video

Good tips, but there are 4.0+ bangers who are super consistent and could hit 5-10 hard drives in a row and stay near the back so a soft bloop over the net would work against them
@ender1337 ай бұрын
Good bangers should be looking to come forward after the drive so not sure what the correlation is between playing against "good" bangers and successful drop shots. Feel like surprise drops mostly work when you have a popup that's the opposing team is moving backwards against. Even then it's usually not the correct percentage llay.....

@ender133 drops seldom work on young athletic players. I'd rather keep them back. Why invite your opponent to the net. You're giving up your biggest advantage.

Against the better players, keep them back two or three hits and only if you see them really deep or hitting while moving back try the cheese drop, imo.

YOU want me to stop making these bad shots? I want me to stop making these bad shots. Nice, quick tutorial. I have to say though that the first has some success if it's done right and by "right" I mean w/ a little power, cross court away from your opponent and occasionally. The old folks usually have mobility issues but the younger crowd usually have the wheels to make the shot. Go Blue!

Been playing for a couple months and still trying to figure out what is fun about it.

@@johnurban7333 sorry to hear that’s your experience. I was introduced to the game by some older friends at church. They like to win, and some are pretty competitive, but they also enjoy each other’s company and have no problem with teaching new players how to play. I played in a much larger city on a weekend trip recently and we were definitely judged by those who played against us and on neighboring courts. Very disappointing.

There are plenty of games that are fun both at the casual and the competitive level. Pong ping, badminton, pool, darts, bowling, chess. Just because people can enjoy them at a casual level doesn’t negate the fact that these games are super fun at a competitive level. The other games you mentioned have no complexity and strategy for higher level play, which is why pro cornhole isn’t a thing. Every sport you now consider a “real sport”, once started as a casual game. You are the one who needs to grow up and realize that the world is a diverse and constantly changing place, and maybe you’d enjoy your own life more if you let people enjoy theirs.
