Great job Rory. I learn so much from your analysis. Fun match to watch.

Rory, @ 15:34 you say "I think if you're hitting your serve mid-court, you're just being lazy" Ben John's serve lands mid-court most of the time. It goes against my aggressive nature but I try to learn by observing Ben's calm demeanor and his pickleball priorities. He is not trying to win the rally with his serve. Tyson McGuffin, on the other hand, is trying to win the rally with his serve. I use my Tyson type serve against a weaker opponent. It is fast and deep with a lot of topspin. The problem is, 20-25% of the time, it lands long. That's my bad but with a weaker opponent, I can make up for it later. When playing against an equal or greater skill level opponent, who can return any serve, I revert to my Ben John's type serve and try to win the rally later.

I understand. Pros don't hit deep, deep serves that often because they don't want to take the chance of hitting it out of the court and giving up their serve. Midway between the kitchen line and service line is good. However, I think just over the service line is not. Thanks for watching.

@@pickleballpick-apart9787 I agree. “Mid-court” on a serve and mid-court during a rally are two different points. Mid-court on a serve is 1/2 way between the NVZ line and the baseline. Mid-court during a rally is 1/2 way between the net and the baseline.

So, what exactly makes the team in black a 3.5 players!? Thanks 😁
@pickleballpick-apart9787Ай бұрын
That is either their DUPR rating or UTRP rating.

Good input about the game. At about 5-5, the team in black started hitting it to the guy in purble, and that was the game. my big surprise is pretty good teams have not become students of the game.

Still watching the video and at 16:10-12 the ball was out but yet the far court team got the point. I looked for a foot foul but didn't see one. Hmmm.
@pickleballpick-apart97877 ай бұрын
I find that foot fouls are hardly ever called.

Love your channel …. I learn or relearn stuff every time !!???????? Question for you your thoughts on the team in all black with black paddles? Seems to deliberate or like An undue advantage ….. maybe strategy but sportsmanship vs. completeness ???

Spell check … competitive

Interesting! Never thought of that. If you're talking about the players in the near court, looks like they are playing with Engage paddles. I doubt if they're playing with black paddles to have an advantage.

I noticed the guy in black would toss the ball upwards on his serve, is that leagel?
@pickleballpick-apart978711 ай бұрын
He is hitting out of the air, so he can toss it up. He couldn't if he let it bounce before hitting it.

Odd, but purple guy has almost no power or pace on his shots. They should speed it up against him at every chance imho.

Tough to tell from the video but looks like at least 3 bad line calls. Seems that neither team could really speed things up or put the point away when given a ball they could attack.
@pickleballpick-apart9787 Жыл бұрын
When given the opportunity, you've got it put the ball away. Thanks for watching.

Another clue a player is a former tennis player is their paddle is always in ready position. Look at the team in the black shirts their paddles are always down at the net.

For sure the lady in white was the most skilled. She maybe should have cheated over a little and took more of the volley’s towards the latter part of the game. The guy in purple was really struggling. Great commentary
@pickleballpick-apart97872 жыл бұрын
Yes, she was very good. I'm thinking she was probably an ex tennis player.

The paddle the lady in white is using is extremely soft and good for touch and drops. Not saying her skills are not spot on but that's Gearbox cx14 is a joy to use. Guy in purple is disappointing.. I'm being nice lol
@pickleballpick-apart97872 жыл бұрын
That's a very good point. I tried six Gearbox paddles and they were just not powerful enough.. It seemed no matter how hard I hit a serve or a return I could not hit it deep enough.

@@pickleballpick-apart9787 Many people say that. Can I ask which is your paddle of choice?
@pickleballpick-apart97872 жыл бұрын
I went through the demo program at totalpickleball.com. It took 15 paddles, but I fell in love with the Joola Solaire. It has just the right mix of power and touch.
