I like your remark about hitting to the better player in rec play. Every game will have a weaker player, who feels bad when he messes up every time. Playing to the stronger player makes it fun for everybody, and helps to cushion the bad habit tendency to return shots that are easier to hit.
@pickleballplaybookАй бұрын
100%. I’d add to what I said by saying to hit the most high percentage shot then secondly hit to the better player. My one caution is to never avoid the better player. So many players do this, and stay at their level with no improvement.

@@pickleballplaybookI actually had great advice from a 6.0 pro . He said keep the dangerous (better) player back, because once he comes to the net your chances are shrinking, then hit to the weaker one 😅

Excellent advice on hitting to the stronger player in rec play and to the weaker player in tournament play. This avoids the weaker player feeling like he or she is being picked-on by the opponents and will promote closer matches rather than blowouts where the weakest player and his or her partner both feel bad about the outcome.

Nobody will hit to the stronger player, but 8 commend those that do! I play with so many people who never hit to me so I have to poach

@@Discoducky73Our group does it quite often in rec play. Makes for a better experience for everyone. In tournaments, it’s completely different.

I play rec play and it frustrates me when I see better players targeting weaker players over and over . For some players winning is everything and they take advantage of opponents lack of mobility and or skill while this is fine for tourneys its pretty lame for rec play .

So ALW's partner doesn't know how to top spin dink? I'm wondering which of two Catherine Parenteau or Ben Johns.?
@pickleballplaybookАй бұрын
Not as good as her. She hits with more topspin and offense than both of them. So they have to go with the lesser of the two a lot of the time. That said, they’re probably going to choose to dink to her over Ben because he’s Ben

Noted!! I’ll let them know to not sell it to you lol

But topspin dinks tend to bounce higher giving an attack opportunity. Slice dinks tend to pull away after bouncing and stay lower.
@pickleballplaybookАй бұрын
Good point! Use wisely 🫡
@mingezАй бұрын
Either you are not sure what spin is on your dinks and/or you aren’t top spinning right. My guess is that it’s more flat or low spin if they are bouncing high. Also it could be your arc is too high and peaking too close to your opponent. A good topspin dink should kick off the bounce reducing the time they have to attack (and should stay low)
@allansalzman1072Ай бұрын
I actually do understand spin and I see many pros using slice (backspin) dinks to good effect. I’m just saying that it’s not so cut and dry.
