looks like a decent setup ! i like that it stabilizes itself using the ground instead of moving around with the trucks suspension more especially on smaller pickups and light duty ones plus not having to drill holes into my bed like some other ones need you to do

Thanks for watching and commenting. It works but after having it for a couple years I think a trailer and a winch might be a better option but that would cost several hundred dollars more.

I no longer have it but that's not because I didn't like and use it. At that time I was harvesting logs for large wood turned pieces. My turning has evolved and I turn mostly smaller pieces now.

With this design, I am wondering how you get the weight of the loaded truck off the stabilizing legs. Seems to me it needs a screw jack or another hydraulic jack as stabilizer leg. Then I think assembly and disassembly would be a lot better.

Christina, first, I'd like to thank you for watching and commenting. You are correct, I always place a jack under the hitch before putting any weight in the bed. FWIW, that's a lesson I had to learn the hard way!

I have been using the same model for about 3 years to get BBQ smokers in and out of my truck for contests. I had to add a 7" extension to the arm to give me enough height. It is a fantastic tool. The largest smoker I'd lift with it weighed about 350 lbs. It will lean forward during a lift making the back leg come up off of the ground, but the cross beam connecting it to the truck keeps everything stabilized. I am very confident in its safety. Contrary to one of the comments made here, it does not take up a lot of space in the truck bed. I actually lift my back seats and keep it inside when I'm traveling for contests, but it is very easy to secure it to the bed wall near the cabin.

Hi Daren. Thanks for watching and commenting. It does work as advertised and has paid for itself for sure. Steve
@danburch99896 жыл бұрын
If you mount it toward the driver's side, you won't have to reach over the side of the bed to lift your load higher. You can place your load at the tailgate, lift and rotate CCW to swing it into the bed of the truck without having to reach over the bed wall.

Nice video. I'd like to try one of these to remove my fiberglass tonneau cover (120 lbs.) Too big to do by myself. It looks like the boom would need to be extended, so that it lifts from the center of the f150 bed. I just don't know how much. It's not a lot of weight, so it just might do the trick.
@stevekrumanaker45828 жыл бұрын
Hi David, thanks for watching and commenting. I've never used the lift for something that large but I agree with you about needing an extension. Aside from that I see no reason why it wouldn't work
@davidwalton41278 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. This is a project for later in the spring after it warms up. Any guess as to how long to extend the boom to reach the center of an f-150 6.5" bed? I'll probably create a sling that holds a couple of straps to fit under the cover. If the crane can pull straight up in the center, the cover could easily rotate around the truck.
@stevekrumanaker45828 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I haven't a clue. I've never tried to pick up any thing that large. Remember, you'll also need enough boom to set it down some where. Steve

I was very motivated when I saw these and "Had" to get one. Unfortunately my excitement did a nose dive when the first log lift split the T-Bar tube at the weld. Took it to my welder and he laughed at the part. He said that the weld was crap. The heat was way high and crystalized the very thin metal. The vendor I purchased it from sent me a new one but the logs were gone by the time it got here. I bought a harbor freight jack to put under the fulcrum point to help with the twist but haven't had a chance to try it out. Good idea, Poor execution.

Doesn't seem very practical at all. It takes up most of the bed of your truck, so you probably won't keep it in there most of the time, you'll miss the opportunity logs. Then if you do get some logs in your truck, there's no room left for all that crane metal.
@stevekrumanaker45828 жыл бұрын
+Josef Roesler First of all, thanks for watching and commenting. you make good points and I can't argue with them. To be honest, this method was my second choice. I was all set to buy a boom truck and lowboy but I was concerned about parallel parking.
@Josef_R8 жыл бұрын
+Steve Krumanaker they make a crane that mounts into the bed of your truck and is not nearly as large and unwieldy. I've always wanted one I'd those.
@stevekrumanaker45828 жыл бұрын
+Josef Roesler I looked at those as well. Everything has it's advantages and disadvantages. Two things I didn't like about that style. first, I didn't want to drill any holes in my bed for mounting it. Secondly, it seemed to me there would be a lot more climbing in and out of the bed to use one of those, especially working alone which is what I tend to do.
