My kids eat everything they love veggies they are now adults how I got around this was when they were old enough to eat soft food I have them squash,carrots,peas,applesauce, Any kind of veggie or fruit I could puree with half a cup of water so they never got the idea they didn't like it,it was just what they ate.When they were about 3 and up when we went grocery shopping I would let them choose a exotic fruit and it was a game so they tried starfruit,prickly pears,heartfruit,blood orange,dragon fruit,ect worked great and it's good for them.

This made me realize that my mom did a great job on the vegetable part, haha ^^ Besides eating a few pieces of carrots every now and then, I never ate any other vegetable when I was younger.. As I got older I would start eating a little bit more, and now I eat them all! My mom always served vegetables for dinner, and never forced me to eat them. I also see it as a normal part of the dinner plate, so this advice totally works! :)

That was a great video, with excellent sound advice. This has been my strategy, with one addition. I had my first picky eater nearly twenty years ago, and my second picky eater has just turned six-years-old. I teach them about the vitamins, minerals, etc., in each food and the importance of that food for their body, as well as, the most nutritious ways to prepare the foods. The addition, is that the children know throughout the day, if they are hungry, they can always grab a fruit or vegetable without asking. The two staples that are always available are organic apples and organic carrots; the other fruits and vegetables I have in addition vary, like: blueberries, raspberries, papaya, avocado, celery, peppers (green, red, and orange), etc. I agree with Keri that it is never good to force a child to eat everything on their plate; they do know, however, with all new foods, they are required to at least try one bite.

Just do it. You're already in the right mindset by worrying about your health. Your mind is so powerful, just tell yourself your going to eat healthy and then do it, no excuses. No "I don't like this" just put it in your mouth, chew and swallow. You'll start to appreciate them the more you expose yourself, even if you don't wind up loving everything. Healthy food can absolutely be delicious but eating doesn't always have to be about the pleasure you get in your taste buds, just eat good stuff whether you like it or not
@Rei131385 жыл бұрын
Just keep experimenting in the kitchen until you have 5 veggie filled recipes that you love and want to eat. My partner is very picky and it took a long time for his tastebuds to get used to it. Now he loves them.
@emragna60385 жыл бұрын
start with a food recipe that you can eat with veggies slowy.. you can start with soups with potatoes, cabbages or any that you can take slowly. then make sure to eat at least 2-3x a week with veggies slowly. you must practice and learn to accept and appreciate it. you will enjoy eating it once you've appreciated it.

Honestly just eat it. It’ll suck the first 3-4 times but after that you’ll be fine! I had a similar issue but with anything flavorful (cheeses, sauces, spices, etc). At 18 I witnessed all my friends starting to go out for nice dinners, enjoying themselves and I was sick of disliking everything. I didn’t even enjoy chicken that had pepper on it. I started just eating it. It sucked the first few times, I hated mealtime for a couple of days and after that it started to get better and better and I can eat almost anything now AND like it!

I'm scarred for life, because the "sit down together and eat" was always forced. I was constantly forced to eat when i was a kid even though I wasn't hungry. Even until today I have a complicated relationship with food and especially with eating when others are eating... Plus, I don't eat breakfast. So tip number 1 is out the door 😪

The biggest problem i have is that my kids wont eat dinner that is mixed up, or the meat has sauce on it. So plain grilled chicken with separate veggies and pasta they will eat. Mixed together with sauce in a pasta bake they will not even try. How do i move from this kind of seperate eating to eating combined dishes?
@NutritiouslifeKeriglassman6 жыл бұрын
First off, it's great to hear that your kids are eating the veggies! Just be persistent and keep trying as taste buds and preferences adapt while children are growing. You can try easing them into mixed dishes (think whole wheat pasta and broccoli with a very simple olive oil and garlic sauce rather than a heavy tomato sauce, or a simple stir fry with teriyaki sauce on the side). The more children and exposed to different foods, the more likely they'll be to try them. Hope this helps!

I sometimes do force my toddlers to eat the he healthy stuff, and it's an issue that I dont know hlw to balance. I'd like to know what to do to ensure they get the proper nutrition but not overeat since there is obesity in my family.
@NutritiouslifeKeriglassman4 жыл бұрын
Hi Alexandra! Thanks for watching! As mentioned, a great way to ensure your toddlers are getting proper nutrition and not overeat is to portion the food in the kitchen, and provide extra veggies on the table rather than extra potatoes and rice, for example. This way if they are still hungry, they'll reach for the vegetables which will provide more nutrients they need! I also recommend focusing on the aspects of the meal itself---the nutritious foods, the family togetherness. You want meal time to be pressure-free. Eat and shop together, get your child involved in the kitchen, and keep serving those foods your child isn't interested in eating (and keep eating them yourself). Their tastebuds and food preferences develop as they age, and even if it's just the visual of them seeing you eat the more nutritious and consistently being served the food, they're more likely to eat this food themselves when they have the ability to choose their own food and decrease their risk for obesity due to overeating. Here's a few easy dinner ideas they may enjoy! nutritiouslife.com/eat-empowered/3-quick-and-easy-dinner-ideas-for-kids/

I'm worried about my son not eating enough. He's 5 and currently his diet consists of whatever we can get him to eat. Unfortunately that's McDonald's burgers, pancakes, pizza pockets, scrambled eggs and toast (one good one) and ice cream and cheese, life cereal, cottage cheese and milk. Thats all he eats. He also has sensory stuff so he has a para at school which has helped greatly. I don't like this and I worry about his future, but I don't know what to do about it since dad is pretty picky too.

My little is almost 2 and a half and is super picky now. He was an amazing eater from the time we introduced solids until about 8ish months ago. He would eat green beans, spaghetti and lasagna, all different fruits. And then one day he wouldn't eat any of it. He now only eats nuggets, grapes and apples, raisins, carrots, grilled cheese, quesadilla. I can sneak some mushrooms and sausage into pizza and he will eat it fine and he will only eat beans and rice if we are sitting at a Mexican restaurant ( will not touch them at home). He will also devour some spinach and artichoke dip. We have a safe stand for him to help us cook because he's all about that. He will eat the shrimp or fish as we cook it but the second I sit him at the table with a plate he won't touch it. Is he just being a two year old or is he turning into a picky eater?
@NutritiouslifeKeriglassman7 жыл бұрын
Hi Lauren! Picky eating can be a normal part of development and is common in toddlers, so no need to stress just yet. It sounds like you are doing a great job getting him involved in the kitchen and sitting down for family meals. Keep being persistent by offering a variety of foods...one day he may suddenly decide he loves the broccoli you've been serving every night. If the picky eating continues long term consider working with your pediatrician or a registered dietitian.

I think the main problem is many parents give their children bland food and keep them away from flavorful food because they think they won’t like it. My parents only ever made ethnic Mexican food growing up. I’m not talking Taco Bell I mean real Mexican food that uses a lot of sauces, peppers and vegetables, fish and meats. My parents never made Mac and cheese or pb&j sandwiches or other typical foods. I remember being the only kid in my class that enjoyed eating vegetables and adult food. I think it comes down to what children are exposed to. If they have the option to eat frozen pizza or chicken nuggets that is what they are going to chose to eat every time. Not to mention American school cafeteria food is just absolutely terrible.

Its hard to say no at this age and especially that he is not talking much yet. I have recently tried moving him from his highchair to a small table because he was not wanting to eat there. Now what he does is stand up from the table and run around when he doesnt want whats on the plate. Do you suggest that I give him the same food for the next meal if he doesnt eat anything? Hi Keri! I realyl liked this. I do know what a "crudité" is and love that you used the word. I have a question. There are only three of us--my husband, daughter, and I. I like sitting up at the table to eat, but sometimes it is just akward to pull off full conversations with three. (We are tight-knit and talk otherwise.) What do you suggest? I do sometimes portion out the meat and pasta/potato in the kitchen.
@NutritiouslifeKeriglassman6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Oleah! There is so much research on the benefits of sitting and eating as a family so you are doing an amazing job there. As for the conversation, try to keep it fun and totally stress free! "How was your day?" doesn't always get a conversation flowing, so you could try some conversation starters such as "What did you dream about last night?" or "What would be the perfect vacation"---topics that keep the meal light, fun and conflict-free!

Very frustrating but these toddlers know how to manipulate you into not eating their food. With my grandchildren I try and give them nutritious food when they are hungry and that is mostly after school. I give them scrambled eggs bake beans spaghetti cut up fruit smoothies cheese and apple goods combo. Make a sandwich ham cut it up into bite sizes. As long as it’s not junky food they have no choice. Be creative my daughter said that’s what grandparents do and she’s probably right.

Hi, thanks for watching! Everyone has their own philosophies on this, and I'm not a fan of using food as a reword, particularly as a reward for eating dinner. Dessert can be a special and healthy part of a Nutritious Life for both kids and adults, but the mindset "you get this treat if you finish dinner first" may set kids up for disordered, picky, or emotional eating down the road. I'd focus on the aspects of the meal itself---the nutritious foods, the family togetherness---rather than focusing on the reword to come after. Check out these quick and easy dinner ideas for kids! nutritiouslife.com/eat-empowered/3-quick-and-easy-dinner-ideas-for-kids/
