I think they could compet only if they join the meta ecosystem, so quest users could keep their games when buying a pico instead of a quest. Most VR users have a quest, so the hardware would have to be VERY MUCH better to worth losing all games we bought. And second point, i don't really pico store but, is there crossbuy games like on quest ? I would never buy a vr headset who don't have crossbuy.

I have a Pico 4 and I gotta say they really dropped the ball on this one. All they had to do was give the Ultra displayport, and just like that it would've been an amazing PCVR headset. But without DisplayPort it directly competes with the Quest 3 and is only slightly better hardware wise and worse software wise.

If it was not MobileVR first they could not supplement the cost with their MobileVR store and would have to double the price. If you want a PCVR first headset, you either have to pay extra for it, (like BSB prices), or wait for Valve, the company making all the sales money from PCVR software sales.

Even when connected by cable, it only needs 150Mbps for full data. WiFi 6e or 7 should make that a viable option so long as the codecs aren't adding much latency. I always wanted WiGig tech, but honestly... that much bandwidth isn't technically needed.... yet.

The screen and lenses of the quest 3 are just so good, even better than the Pico 4. The biggest thing for me that the quest 3 has over the Pico 4 is wifi 6e, which makes such a big difference for pcvr. I'm glad they went there, too. I own both but the Pico is only used for les mills body combat sports, everything else is clearly quest 3. I don't care about the MR stuff so meh to these upgrades... The feet tracking with dancing is an interesting option though! All in all the Pico 4 ultra has a few perks but anyone already in the Meta universe, or interested in pcvr streaming only (with 120hz perhaps) will probably stick to the quest 3

The little motion capture trackers are a game changer. You can attach those to baseball bats, tennis rackets among anything else turning any object in your house into a controller. Super great idea. Quest 3 needs those out of the box.

Could never do that with a cable. Maybe you have a fixed place where you play. Then a cable might be helpful. Mobility is priority for me.

We need some NON standalone HMD's again. PCVR is and will always be king. NO matter how powerful your pc is, wireless VR will ALWAYS be less quality than wired VR. That said, I fully support anything that topples the Meta monstrosity.

Only Valve makes any money from PCVR software sales, so PCVR hardware makers have to sell their headset with a large enough margin to pay the bills. That is why the BSB is $1000 without controllers. PCVR is small enough, and most people will not drop $1000+ on a headset, so there is not much of a market for PCVR headsets.

I rock a bigscreen beyond and a Quest 3 but the quest is always easier to pick up and hop into a game. Friction price accessibility is what will bring in more people, not elitism

Meta software sucks. Had to send my quest 3 back because the software doesnt work. Half the time the pc app doesnt even open. And when it does open, it doesnt pick up the pc wired connection most of the time, and wireless doesnt work at all. Aweful experience. Got a g2 reverb instead. Pcvr is what I want.

Buying game dev studios to make their games exclusive , then closing them a bit later, paying half of the production of games to make it quest exclusive. The trackers becoming an accessory to the headset like that is so huge. The amount of games that can be developed for the Pico Store that just take advantage of FBT as a method of control and input will be very competitive in n of itself. They already eluded to this in their "trailer" for the headset, that some games were using the FBT as a main input method. I love this and Meta definitely needs to hop on this train because computational FBT will never hit the same level as FBT with actual hardware.

While I would've loved having this Ultra including a DisplayPort for PC, my Pico 4 is so much more comfortable for me to wear, vs. the Quest 3, both when it comes to the balance of the headset itself, and in terms of the binocular overlap for my large IPD, that I'm seriously hoping that Pico sells it outside China. Though it still can't match the Quest 3 for some of its games (or even the Home areas, which are boring on the Pico), it sounds like it'll be a much more comfortable headset to use for longer PCVR sessions. Just waiting to see what the price in the West will be, if they sell it in Europe and/or the US.

No. Due to limitation of decording performance. AV1 & H265 need much more processing power for decording than H264. So H264 can get muuch higher bitrate. In the same bitrate, AV1 & H265 is clearly better, but much higher bitrate H264 can surpass AV1 & H265 easily.

@@SuperDre74 On Quest3 (XR2 Gen2), H265 and AV1 only work stably up to about 200Mbps. It's almost the same as Quest 2(XR2). Virtual Desktop creator Godin limits it to 200Mbps to ensure stability, and Quest Link doesn't have limitation, but becomes unstable below 250Mbps. H264 has a much higher limit (because decording is much faster), 500Mbps on VD and 980Mbps on Quest Link. The key point here is that we don't need 500Mbps of H264 to beat the quality of 200Mbps of H265. On Quest Link, H264 300Mbps reaches H265 200Mbps quality. Currently, we don't have a merit to use H265 & AV1. It's only a matter of personal preference.

Why? My son got the pico 4 and has had nothing but trouble since the first time he used it. He only got to play with it once after getting it for Christmas! His controllers haven't connected ever since no matter what we do. New batteries etc. they won't turn on. So all that money spent and can't get customer service etc. it's terrible! I've tried so hard to to find someone possibly on KZbin who can help and seems nobody wants to lend any advice or help. I've reached out to KZbinrs who make vids like there and it's been crickets.

I love the pico 4. The amount of problems I had originally setting up the quest etc. for PCVR, The pico went straight in the quest had issues okay? Nowadays things are levelled out but with the quest I still get screen door issues with the PCO feels like I’m looking at the real world. Hopefully this is the vast improvement over the other. Really looking forward to can’t wait for it.

I don’t see the Quest 3’s lens being remotely as clear as these. The PPI (pixels density ) is on par or better if I recall with the quest 3. The balance … OMG the basics that Meta refuses to change. It’s lighter. It’s better quality. 🤷‍♂️. But all this is from someone sitting in the US who can only go on specs. So I’m willing to eat some of my words. But the testing seems to bear most of this out, no? (looks in “through the lens” 👀 lmao). But even if the testing bears it out… the US one of the largest markets can’t buy them, because well, 45 🤷‍♂️ Now if you want BOTH a stand-alone AND a PCVR … then this wouldn’t be it, if it meant compressed vid to the headset etc. , totally. Thanks for your info! I have the Quest3 which I like a lot and also the Pico4 that I use often. Seeing the specs of the Pico4 Ultra, I'm considering buying one and give my Pico4 away. I like some games, I love it for PCVR, the only thing I'm not so crazy about are the controllers of my Pico4 (holding them is not easy). I was planning to buy a Quest3s for fitness, and use my Quest3 for gaming and watching movies. But the Pico4 Ultra gets me triggered. Then I will change my mind: keeping the Quest3 for fitness and using the Pico4 Ultra for playing (PCVR) games and watching movies. In any case, I'll wait for the final reviews.... so in a few months.

I love my Pico 4 over my Quest and because I never really cared for MR nor standalone, I only play PCVR and for the price with pancake lenses it is great for sim racing, flight sims and other pcvr gaming. For now I may hold off and not go into this. Unless the quality of standalone VR will match PCVR in the future, perhaps with the Quest 4 or any other competitor. I will stick to what I have for now. I am already satisfied with what I have. But it is great that VR is still in development and more advances are being released and I pray for more to come.

It seems like a good headset except for the refresh rate, 90 hz is way to low and being that there has been research done that shows that a refresh rate of 120 hz leads to less motion sickness. Also pico headsets have a smaller App Library

Depends on what you’re using it for. If you’re using it for standalone, definitely not if you’re using it for PC VR it’s more about preference then but you’re not gaining anything by waiting because it will never get the amount of support that the Quest 3 gets.

@@steffendetrick true ty i got the quest 2 I don't really want to spend 800$ on the quest 3 right now were 350 is a lot nicer number and then the extra stuff you have to get on top of it XD the quest 2 for PC look completely fine and being able to do some thing out of the PC would be nice. like youtube or movies would be fun

@@speedrider3145 quest 3s is coming out and is expected to be $299. Then you also get games like Batman and don’t know if you saw the new game play trailer , but it looks incredible,

It will not last long. Quest 3 is coming and it’s just a quest 3 with fresnel lenses for half/one third of the price. The quest 3s will crush this off the market by the time it releases in the US.

Well, they push AR in VR headset like meta. And no display port for PC connection, our hopes are shattared. Also where is eye tracking for better rendering from pico pro? comming in pico ultra pro??? lol

Same screen panels as Pico 4 but are the Pancake lenses improved or the same? The Pico 4 Pancake optics are good whereas the Quest 3 are great and amazing. So Pico needs to up their game in this dept. Also, one of my biggest complaint of the Pico4, no 3.5mm audio jack, looks like they excluded it on the Ultra also. Not doing a DP connection like the Neo 3 Link is a missed opportunity, it would have sold extremely well with this one feature alone. With the XR2 Gen 2 chip, visible compression should be better just like comparing the Quest 2 and 3, the 3 is so much better due to the chip being able to decode so much faster. I have no use for the AR / MR features, only would be used for PCVR and for that purpose only, the price isn't worth it at $600. Hopefully they put a beefier battery at the back, Xr2 Gen2 seems to like eating batteries! LOL

The problem with the pico 4 is, unlike the quest 3, you can't replace the facial interface or headstrap if you don't like it, so you would be stuck with it forever while everything on the quest is swappable

I liked the P4 too, but i think it is too early to say, if they can compete. I am confident, that it will be able to compete with the Q3 as a pcvr hmd (but this might not be enough for the business case). According to the stats, esp. 12gb DDR and using the same processor, i would expect, that the standalone performance is a better too. But there are downsides too. According to the price in china, the p4u should cost the same, as the Q3. But you don't get the same eco system. I think pico/bytedance hast lost trust when they layed off significant numbers of their staff. So: is this their last try? Don't know. And finally, I am pretty sure, that some geopolitical thoughts might prevent people in the western world buying a hmd from a mother company, that is very close to the chinese ministry of public security (while i know that many others do not care).
